Cant always depend on BACOLOD as a venue, its a given that its a hotbed. Cant blame the management for holding the game in the capital of philippines, as they are promoting football here.
Anyways the problem for very low attendance was two things: first, the ISSUE on the younghusbands (many girls/and newbies perhaps refunding tickets since many people MAINLY want to see the poster boys), and that goes to show that football has long ways to go since people still see football as a younghusband/neil etheridge game, which is quite wrong.
Second is that its a tuesday, and an Azkal versus Guam game is not really a crowd-drawer for an average or newbie supporter of football in general, especially since its held in Manila, where some fans still (again) appreciate STAR power than the beautiful game itself.
Expecting a dismal attendance again versus Macau tom, although it may slightly increase since the boys proved they can win amid their poster boys exclusion.
Saturday's match will be different, since its BOTH a weekend match and its against Taiwan, a team where Manilenos can relate more to since its a BIGGER and more popular country, both basketball and football-wise.
My thoughts.

OT: I see many photographers on the sidelines shooting, and most of them don't look like accredited pros/PJs (based on their appearance and their non-pro DSLRs and lenses), so I'd like to ask how they managed to get in with their DSLRs and telephoto lenses and allowed to shoot anywhere near the pitch? I'd like to do the same but I thought dati bawal magdala ng malalaking cams. Palakasan lang ba yan basta may kakilala sa loob?

If those taking photos on the pitch have accredited IDs, they're definitely from the media, from the foreign FAs, or from AFC & FIFA covering this event. It's impossible that they are able to enter the sidelines with their telephoto lenses without identification. Walang palakasan dyan, they just need permission from the PFF and the local organizing committee. The audience can bring DSLRs, but the lenses shouldn't exceed 55mm. 18-55mm kit lenses are fine, 28-70mm lenses very doubtful if they're allowed.

Bumped this again.
As a PFF official told me just today, the NT game in Cebu last night was "98%" sold out. Pretty good atmosphere there and I believe Cebu can host more international games, and even UFL games if they want to. I hope someday Mindanao will host an international game (and therefore I will be able to have a chance to watch the Azkals play live! ;D ). I bet Cagayan de Oro City has a good chance with their Pelaez Sports Complex, and Tagum City, Davao del Norte, with their Davao del Norte Sports Complex that is undergoing expansion.
Now on to how to "outnumber" the opponent (i.e. Thai, Vietnamese and Burmese) audience by the upcoming 2012 Suzuki Cup group stages at the 65,000-seater Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok and the 15,000-seater SCG Stadium in Nothaburi. What do you think are our chances to show them that we can also show massive support for our football team?
I still think the OFWs who live there might still have thoughts of not joining the travelling Filipinos maybe due to incidents of violence that is quite rampant in Thailand's local leagues. I do think Thais have a better attitude towards opponents and their fans in international games compared to the Indonesians, Vietnamese or the Burmese, but I'm still in doubt if they will do a good reception towards Filipinos during the tournament. I'm hoping and praying no incident of violence or racial discrimination happens when the national team and the Filipino audience show up at the stadiums or even at the hotels a few days from now.

Hats off to the Cebu organizers for the very smooth, very green, and very flat football pitch. Talagang inayos at inalagaan. Contrast that to the pockmarked moonscape that the UFL plays at when they aren't at Rizal Memorial.

Cebu's a great host for international games. Hopefully, more games will be held there and in other (nearby) cities where football is popular. Since matches are aired on TV, the viewers (esp. those that are not familiar with football) can "pick up" (on the game) from the crowd watching live.
Also, there's a lot of events going on in Manila and it would help (financially) if the games, including the UFL, will be played in other cities.

I'd like match days to be more of an event. You know, with stuff happening around the stadium prior to the match. Builds up the buzz. Make it a party.

Regional or City rivalries I think would really help develop UFL and football awareness all over the PHIL - though money would be a major problem in doing that. I think we need to try having teams by City or Province again.

As of this moment, tickets are now limited for the Saturday game, with the white bleachers already unavailable when I checked. Looks like reaching the semifinals created more buzz for the game, and the media giving extended exposure contributing.
