Latest update on Denis, he has picked up a minor injury and hopes to feel better soon. Oh and p.s: Denis does want to play for the Azkals. He was recently trying to contact Coach Weiss and/or Gert Engels for a possible try-out in the team. his team is in the bundesliga correct? Nope. Magdeburg is in the Regionalliga Nord which is the fourth tier of the German football system.

If JYH is moved into the centerback, he can replace him as the new RM/RWM? (He plays in that position!)

Michael Weiss stays upbeat despite Azkals’ latest loss Sun. Jan. 08, 2012 Michael Weiss stays upbeat despite Azkals’ latest loss MANILA, Philippines—Philippine Azkals coach Michael Weiss doesn’t see any cause for alarm following the 1-3 defeat of the Azkals-Alyansa to Spanish Tercera division side CF Internacional de Madrid in a charity match Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
It was the second straight loss for the Azkals, who also absorbed a 1-6 whipping from the Los Angeles Galaxy last December in another exhibition game.
The AFC Challenge Cup is two months away and Weiss, who watched the game from the grandstand, said he still has enough time to whip the side into the best possible form for the eight-nation tournament that stakes a spot in the 2015 Asian Cup.
The Azkals will face North Korea, Tajikistan and India in the March 9 to 13 Challenge Cup in Kathmandu, Nepal.
While Weiss was not impressed by the performance of the Azkals, particularly in the opening half, the German mentor said it was understandable against the Spanish team “that has been growing the past three years as the best footballing country in the world.”
The match dubbed “Dili Kamo Nag-Iisa” was for the benefit of victims of Tropical Storm “Sendong.” The charity game reportedly raised P2 million, including the 10,000 euros that was turned over by CF Madrid to the Philippine National Red Cross.
James Younghusband averted a shutout with a solid header in the 62nd minute off a cross from Chieffy Caligdong—a goal that Weiss said only shows the tremendous spirit within the team.
“It was a good result, a good reflection of where we stand,” Weiss said. “It only meant we have a lot of work to do.”
The Azkals begin their preparations for the Challenge Cup on Tuesday and Weiss stressed the importance of having the players based in the country train together.
Defender Rob Gier is also arriving on Tuesday but Weiss said he is still unsure if Chris Greatwich is willing to join the team.
Weiss also revealed that Dennis Wolf, an experienced Fil-German midfielder, has expressed his desire to join the squad.

A little career/team update for Denis Wolf:Current 1.FC Magdeburg team picture He is a starter for 1.FC Magdeburg and a Regionalliga Nord(North) team. In comparison Manny Ott plays in the same division but different league, Regionalliga Sud(South). He is now 28 years old and his previous injuries has taken its toll on Denis. He has yet to score a goal while playing in all 17 league games so far. By far his team is the worst goal scoring team in their division with only 13 goals made(the best has scored 45!) their defense, though is the 4th best in the 18 team league. Unfortunate for them they have not won in 4 league games and stand at 15th place. He is is listed as an "angriff"(literally, attacker) or forward for his team. He is a starting striker and one can argue the point that he is a good reason they are in the position they are in right now. But has anyone noticed? Rob Gier, Jason de Jong, Oliver Potschke, Dennis Cagara, Ray Jonsson, Carli, Paul Mulders, Jacques Van Bossche, Jeffrey Christiaens and Juan Luis Guirado's teams are all in the bottom half of their league and some could be relegated. Just saying... I'd love to see Denis play for us. After Phil, we are particularly weak at the striker position. Nate is okay but could be better and Ian isn't starting material anymore. Now fix that passport!

Maybe his passport issue is fixed By the way his team's next game will be on Feb 5 (Regionaliga) Maybe he won't play in his team Club Friendly on Jan 19. He will spent time to practice here before going back to Germany. A good tandem for PYH

Congratulations to Denis on his debut with the Azkals. Even though he didn't score, he looks like a better partner for Phil than Ian.
I believe Denis is the first Azkal and Filipino player to have participated and scored in the Bundesliga, when he was at Hannover 96 in 2003 ahead of Dennis Cagara.

cjeagle, I would just like to ask about our policy in transferring players from the scouting to the profiles section. Do we wait for the player to get his first official senior cap for the country before moving him here, or has the policy changed?

Shouldn't we use FIFA as a guideline? The match wasn't FIFA recognized I think, just like the CFIM game, so he's not technically "capped".

I guess I wasn't as strict with Denis on this one. He definitely isn't capped yet, but the fact that he played for the Azkals and not just sit on the bench in a friendly albeit in a non official charity match, deserved some recognition. However, you guys are right. I was the one who pointed the cap requirement earlier so the move might have been premature. It is always possible he might change his mind on playing for the Philippines, so let us wait until he plays in an official match.

His first goal really doesn't count as an international goal?
