About de Jong, kinda undersized but he strikes me to be a player who has great potential yet is not there yet. Problems with discipline I think. I read somewhere that he actually had a $80,000 contract for that Indo team and he f%&^ it up! Our bench is definitely better than a year ago. Go Azkals!

Yeah, it surprised me that he had a huge salary and he messed up. Is he really a defensive midfielder? When he first made his debut for the azkals, he was a winger, and he was a good one also. He was good at making runs and challenging the opponents. I wonder how he went from attacking to defending. He looks misplaced in central mid.

He's like a mini Schrock, vocal on the field, good passes, good energy, quick, played defense well though he was getting beat on because of his smaller size, at least the last time he started against Mongolia or was that Sri Lanka(Im not sure)? Im not versed enough to suggest a position for him at this time. I think he really needs more seasoning with a good club. The Indo club wouldve been perfect PS his given position is central mid and he's a good passer but...

We need more options on defense. It was either Weiss or Dan Palami who said that our back 4 needs beefing up and I agree. Player availability, suspensions and injuries are issues that could easily deplete the options of our back line. Just take note of the 1st leg against Kuwait.
Lucena and Schroeck as a double pivot in central midfield, I like that.

Gener is 36 I believe. Sabio cant break into the starting back line. The Back is a problem because beyond the first 4, there no one there with close to the skill level of the first 4.

There are several up and coming players in the Philippines. Many defenders that have good potential. A player like Jason Cordova, massive player like Aly, who played besides Aly a few years ago has been said to be better than Aly from people i know, but for some reason havent been given a chance the past few years, most likely because of personal issues. Versatile player also who can play upfront, just like Aly used to. Ive never seen him play though, so i cant confirm if its true.
The players in defence still have plenty of years on the field, so i wouldnt worry that much. The management will have more than enough time to find players that can replace them. In the meantime they should try out some of the local players. We also have potential players in Phil Greatwich and Simone Rota, both defenders. Rota can also play different positions. I would also say that we need another striker that can match Guirado and Phil.

Yeah, defenders usually have longer shelf lives than mids or forwards.
And Cordova was part of the team back when they played the AFFCC Quals at Iloilo, right?
To sum it up, the key word is patience. It wasn't too long ago when a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Thailand would be considered a decent result. The man at the helm deserves our faith.

Well I agree that defenders have a longer shelf life because if they were dedicated to their craft as they physically slow down or lose their speed they compensate for it by their experience. I suppose what Palami was concerned about was the depth of the back line. Did you gents see the first Kuwait game? The first 60 minutes the defense was very active but after that they slowed down quickly, I expected at least 1 new guy at back to reenergize the back line but no such move from Weiss. Im not gonna second guess him, Im just a fan and he's the coach but...
Ill take a look at this guy Cordova, wonder why he's outta the line up? de Jong type probs?

Kinda looks like a sucker punch to Weiss coming from a sourgrouping Macca fan to me, as it is irrelevant to the ongoing progress on the Long Teng cup tournament.
And I sense no constructive outcome for the necromancy of this thread. Better if we throw this thread straight to the Garbage Bag if you ask me.
