ISSAQUAH WPSL STAR CALLED INTO TRAINING WITH PHILIPPINE NATIONAL TEAM WPSL on November 26th, 2012 issaquahsc.org/issaquah-wpsl-star-called-into-training-with-philippine-national-team/November 25, 2012 – Bellingham, WA – Issaquah Soccer Club’s WPSL team will be able to claim another player with international ties. Joana Houplin has been invited to train with the Philippine National Team in Fullerton, CA at Titan Stadium for a two day long camp, from November 26th until November 28th. This will be her first experience training with a National Team, and will train with 30 to 40 other girls being invited into the camp. “My college coach got the letter addressed to me about a month ago; I’m not sure how they got my contact information, but I’m really excited for the opportunity,” said an excited Houplin. Due to collegiate commitments, and a busy post season, Houplin was unable to attend the entire two-week long training period, but will be able to make it for the last two days of camp. She saw another great year with Western Washington University, playing in 18 of 22 games, nabbing 6 goals and 2 assists. “It was a pretty busy year for us,” said Houplin, reflecting on her season with the Vikings. “We made it to the Sweet 16, losing to University of San Diego in regional finals, but it was the furthest we’ve gone in 4 years since I’ve been a freshman when we lost to Seattle Pacific University. We also won the GNAC Title and Tournament this year.” Houplin just completed her undergraduate degree and is currently pursuing a Masters in Kinesiology. While any future opportunities with the National Team remain unknown at this stage, she is hopeful that she’ll still be able to represent Issaquah Soccer Club’s women team in 2013

www.philstar.com/sports/2013/06/17/954903/malditas-fil-am-gets-call-play-us-soccer-leagueMalditas’ Fil-Am gets call to play in US soccer leagueBy Joey Villar (The Philippine Star) | Updated June 17, 2013 - 12:00amMANILA, Philippines - Philippine Malditas’ Fil-Am midfielder Joana Houplin got a call-up from the Seattle Reign FC for their match against Portland Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League, the top-level pro league for lady booters in the US. The match is slated Monday (Manila time) at JELD-WEN Field in Oregon. Houplin, coming off a stint in the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup Group B qualifiers last May in Bangladesh, was among four amateurs the Reign tapped from their reserve side, the Issaquah Soccer Club, for the showdown with the Thorns, along with defenders Bree Rowe and Caitlin Allen and midfielder Macy Jo Harrison. The Reign occupy last spot in the eight-team NWSL with one-point on one draw against eight losses and will be hard-pressed to post their first triumph of the season with goalkeeper Hope Solo (US), defender Emily Zurrer and midfielder Kaylyn Kyle (Canada), and midfielder Jessica Fishlock (Wales) out on national team duties. A former Western Washington U standout, Houplin beefed up the Malditas for their Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers campaign last May in Dhaka, where she scored a goal and assisted two others in their 6-0 rout of Iran and started in their heartbreaking 0-1 loss to powerhouse Thailand. The Malditas eventually settled for second in the group with six points behind group winner Thailand (nine points) and missed the lone berth to next year’s World Cup-qualifying Women’s Asian Cup. After her stint with the Malditas, Houplin joined the Reign’s reserve side in the second-level Women’s Premier Soccer League. The Fil-Am played her first game last week and started in Issaquah Soccer Club’s 3-0 win over Westside Timbers.
