Is this mean that the game against CF Madrid will not push through? So 100% sure there is no game on Jan 21?

Madrid calls off 2-game goodwill series in Manila BY BONG PEDRALVEZ UNABLE to secure FIFA sanction, Spanish Third Division team CF Madrid has been forced to cancel it two-match goodwill series in Manila, including its scheduled friendly match against the Philippine Azkals, on Jan. 7 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. "We received an e-mail message from CF Madrid last Monday that it was unable to get certification (approval) from the FIFA and had to beg off for the friendly against the Azkals," Philippine Football Federation president Mariano Araneta Jr. said yesterday. United Football League president Randy Roxas, whose UFL All-Stars were also set to play the Spanish booters on Jan. 10 at the Rizal Memorial pitch, confirmed the scrapping of the CF Madrid stint. "We also received an e-mail from CF Madrid informing us of the cancellation of their visit to Manila because they failed to get the approval of FIFA," Roxas said. "The club was supposed to play the UFL All-Stars on Jan. 10, but that is now off. "They (CF Madrid) are planning to reschedule their trip sometime in June in time for the celebration of Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day," he added. Araneta said CF Madrid had wanted the push through with the match without FIFA sanction and make it a "practice game." "But this would make it difficult to sell to sponsors because we wanted the friendly match with the Azkals to be televised," he said. The CF Madrid-Philippines match was intended to kick off the build-up of the Azkals for their participation in the AFC Challenge Cup in Katmandhu, Nepal in March. Araneta said the International Football Federation, known by its French acronym FIFA, also notified the PFF any friendly match involving the national team must be approved by the world body at least two months in advance. "FIFA informed us the two-month notice is a requirement that should be followed if we are to hold any future friendly matches in the country," Araneta said. He added the FIFA had already approved the Azkals’ friendly against the Malaysian national team on Feb. 29 at the Rizal Memorial pitch because it had informed the federation of the date in November. www.malaya.com.ph/dec21/sports4.html

They (CF Madrid) are planning to reschedule their trip sometime in June in time for the celebration of Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day," he added. It will be worthless to face a 3rd tier team if our country (Philippines) had won the Challenge cup, by that time (if we ever won the challenge cup) we could be facing a Liga BBVA Team A.K.A. Barca or Real.

dingodile5I agree with you, next year if we/PFF can afford it, we should try to schedule as much friendlies/exhibition games for the NT(junior and senior team). We have a very large pool of players and they won't be as good together if they don't play together, friendly's and exhibition games are good training aids for them. The Spanish has, for the recent past, been reaching out to its former colonies trying to build relationships again. I hope the Spanish government can help us by subsidizing some of the cost to bring Barca or RM to the Philippines(Football and Basketball team). This gesture would go a long way. I hope someone at PFF has thought about this. If not, how about bringing in a Tercera club with more pedigree aka Real Madrid III at least they are related to the real thing. To be honest, I'd go see any Spanish club from La Liga to Tercera. I'd love to compare their way of playing to ours. And, having them on Philippine soil would validate what we have been trying to do lately, building soccer relevance in the Philippines. PS I queried Mike Limpag about this match and he replied with: "I think we will" then a few minutes later saw the article I posted above! I hope we can reschedule something for Jan 21, maybe a Malaysian/Indonesian/Thai pro team, these guys play at a higher level than us, it could be interesting. But its wishful thinking I know.

CF Madrid set to face Azkals in fund-raiser BY BONG PEDRALVEZ SPANISH Third Division club CF Madrid has agreed to play a "practice game" with the Philippine Azkals on Jan. 7 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, which will be a fund-raiser for the victims of Typhoon Sendong in Northern Mindanao, according to football chief Mariano Araneta Jr. "CF Madrid has confirmed it will arrive in Manila to play a ‘practice game’ with the Azkals on Jan. 7," said Araneta, who assigned national team manager Dan Palami to take charge of the arrangements for the charity match. Because it will only be a practice game, "we no longer need FIFA sanction since it is not an international friendly that has strict requirements like local coordinators and technical officials that meet their criteria," Araneta said. Among those spearheading the project are national women’s coach Ernie Nierras, Ebong Joson and Craig Burroughs, the last two being the leaders of the Kaholeross, the official cheerleading group of the Azkals. During initial talks during the Azkal Christmas party at the SMDC showroom in Pasay City last Tuesday night, the core group suggested fans would be charged a P100 entrance fee to watch the game, and they would be encouraged to bring goods for the typhoon victims. They said collection boxes would be set up around the venue where the fans could drop their items. They also agreed that LBC would act as the "ticketing agent" for the football benefit, while volunteers would be tapped during a "telethon" during the day to raise cash for those affected by the natural calamity. "This is one way the local football community can pay back and help our countrymen who were adversely affected by Typhoon Sendong in Northern Mindanao," they said. To start the ball rolling, the group encouraged fans and players alike during the Christmas party to purchase ballers of the Azkals and Malditas at P100 each that would go to the relief fund for typhoon victims. www.malaya.com.ph/dec22/sports4.html

LOL. Practise game...
about Wiking's blog saying that they have a league match on Jan 8, If that's true, they'll probably send their second team since the match will not even be FIFA sanctioned.
The Azkals won't get the best preparation by playing Inter de Madrid's second team. But in any case, their second team will probably be good enough for a "practise game".

a sudden turn of events hehe good for us hehe. 3 in 1 1.) Practice for them in preparation of AFC Challenge Cup hehe 2.) Fans will enjoy 3.) Sendong victims will be benefited by donations hehe
Will the game be televised in Philippines and in Spain? I hope this will televised in both countries. Malay natin this will be watched by La Liga teams such as Real Madrid CF or Barca hehe.
On Philippine-Spanish Friendship Day, we should battle against LA LIGA since this will push through hehe I'm hoping PFF should plan more friendlies against them

What's the difference between a "practice game" and a "friendly"?

What's the difference between a "practice game" and a "friendly"? I think for this match I'd call it an "exhibition" game. By the Azkals playing as a team against a quality(?) opponent you could call it "practice". I don't think we can call it a "friendly" by FIFA rules or standard though. Either way I'll be watching ;D

From Internacionals FB page(translated): Monday, We regret to inform you that the Football Federation of the Philippines have reported that the AFC (Asian Football Federation) have not authorized the friendly match between CFIM and Selection of the Philippines. Have not told us what the problem or if it is only a matter of dates. We report if it is a short postponement or cancellation of the match. Tuesday, After yesterday's news from the Philippines have asked about the possibility of playing in Manila, the 7th of January, a charity match in solidarity with people affected by typhoon "Sendong." Tomorrow we hope to have confirmation, if you can arrange the match for that date. For us it is a later deadline would be difficult to travel. Another problem we have is the availability of seats for the flight, and the fact that yesterday we had reservations cancelabamos! It will be a good opportunity to demonstrate our solidarity with the people as needed. Also from the club we would like to see the possibility of raising funds / donations and deliver them to local foundations.
I wanted to find out who we play, the 1st team or the 2nd team. I got lazy, can anyone who could read Spanish check their page? I can't believe they'd forfeit their Jan 8 game. It's nice to know we are getting closer to the Spanish again... because of soccer! Visit their FB page and say hello or thank you for their efforts: www.facebook.com/pages/Internacional-de-Madrid/169625566402242?sk=wall
