Being a Dabawenyo myself, I have to comment on this. Yes, the Davao del Norte SC's renovation has long been planned as they are bidding to host the next Palarong Pambansa. If the PFF are interested to hold an international match here, why not? Traffic isn't a problem here; travel to the complex from downtown Davao City will only take you two hours tops. We have excellent accomodations, and it's generally safe here. Problem is, will the other nation agree? If their government is currently under a travel advisory preventing them to travel to Mindanao due to these insurgents and rebels, they will definitely turn it down. It's quite ironic for us, as many parts are relatively safe, at least here in the Davao region. I have been assigned to the Davao provinces before, I agree with Stellarboy, it's worth a shot and it is a lovely place. If a match is to be played there, perhaps the Indonesians and the Malaysians could be convinced to play there. I know the Indonesians have a Consulate in Davao City and will be very familiar with the area. They would have first hand knowledge that Davao isn't that dangerous and even fairly safe. Mindanao deserves to host a live match. I couldnt agree more... I bet the dabawenyos are as loud and wild as cebuanos do.. maybe much more??..

I couldnt agree more... I bet the dabawenyos are as loud and wild as cebuanos do.. maybe much more??.. If you ask me, it depends where you live and where your lineage comes from. We Dabawenyos in general are much more conservative and reserved compared to their counterparts in the Visayas when it comes to supporting sports teams because of our multi-cultural upbringing. Unless your lineage is dominantly Ilonggo or Negrense, or you are part of the upper class, chances are you don't follow football that much. Basketball and volleyball is still very dominant in most of Davao (we have thriving amateur leagues here), so we're not much different to Manila.

the problem is most of the Filipinos especially who are not from Mindanao has this mindset that this island is very risky for them to travel. in fact, majority of my friends here in Cebu would think that Mindanao is all about war, kidnap for ransom and etc. i got tired of explaining to them what this island of promise is all about
last year, there was a Congressman pushing a friendly game to be held at the Tubod Lanao Del Norte Sports complex but all of this didn't materialized maybe because of the current issues that they're experiencing right now

Despite new rivals in ASEAN, they'll joint up for 2014 edition. By the way, this could also be the first tournament to be hosted by the stadium of INC in Bocaue, Bulacan, Central Luzon if PFF and FAS made it to be the host. PFF and FAS to seek to host 2014 AFF Suzuki CupKuala Lumpur ( 21 December 2012) - The Philippines Football Federation and Football Association of Singapore are bidding to host the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup, a biennial regional football tournament of Southeast Asia. The Philippines will host their first time of Asean Football Federation (AFF) championship and Singapore a co-host of 1996 Tiger Cup ( formerly name of AFF Championship), 2002 Tiger Cup and 2007 AFF Championship Cup will host their fourth time of the biennial regional tournament. Philippines Football Federation (PFF) vice-president Ismael Batiles said ” We want to bring AFF Suzuki Cup back home to the Philippines because football are becoming popular in here and the youth have participated a lot of football clinic. It really the right time, we bring football as popular sports like basketball” . The Philippines national football team aka the Azkals are regional most improvement team. In 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup, the Azkals defeated Vietnam a champions of 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup at the group stage, it was one of the biggest upsets in the history of the tournament. The team reach the knockout stage for first time, eventually losing to Indonesia in the semifinals. The 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup, the Azkals also were in the semifinal, the first leg of semifinal Philippines were drawn to Singapore 0-0 at Rizal Memorial Stadium; Singapore won the semifinals though by winning the return leg in Singapore, 1–0. Football Association of Singapore (FAS) general secretary Winston Lee said ” It’s good idea we come back as the host of this wonderful biennial football tournament. We already win the first leg of finals against Thailand 3-1 and i hope we could win the second leg of the final as the Champion of 2012 AFF Suzuki Cup.Philippines is very good team and I’m very delighted that we co-host with them.” Both of the PFF and FAS leaders have agree to use their new stadiums, Philippines Arena and Singapore Sports Hubs as primary venue of 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup. Jalan Besar Stadium and Rizal Memorial Stadium would be the second venue.andy1890.wordpress.com/2012/12/21/pff-and-fas-to-seek-to-host-2014-aff-suzuki-cup/Primary Venues: SIN (Singapore Sports Hub) PHI (New Era University Stadium)

Reference: National Elections 1996 for basketball, one certain senatorial candidate.. heck if that happens,. pooff!!... we are doomed.. ;d

Since the AFC Challenge Cup - Group Stage qualifiers is set on March 2-6, then PFF should plan friendlies against other countries on March 22-26. It's an International Match Days.

Can Azkals go farther in 2013?By Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) | Updated January 2, 2013 - 12:00am MANILA, Philippines - Following their repeat semifinal finish in the AFF Suzuki Cup, the challenge for the Azkals for 2013 and beyond is to sustain the momentum and surpass their achievements, according to Philippine Football Federation president Nonong Araneta. “Prior to the Suzuki Cup the pressure was to qualify for the Suzuki Cup semifinals once more. By qualifying again, I think they have shown that our semifinals stint in the 2010 Suzuki Cup was not a fluke. Right now with the set of players we have, the question for us is: ‘can we go farther?’” said Araneta. Stronger and better equipped than the unheralded side that surprised Southeast Asia in 2010, the Azkals duplicated their Last-4 appearance and even went tantalizingly close to a historic finals berth, if not for a 0-1 setback to eventual titlist Singapore in the semis. “How can we go farther? That should be our challenge after 2012,” Araneta said. The Azkals are anticipating another busy year in 2013. In March, they will see action in the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers that Phl will be hosting at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. The Pinoy booters will be bracketed with Turkmenistan, Brunei and Cambodia in Group E, seeking to top the group to seize a berth in the Challenge Cup’s final stages in 2014 in Maldives. “If we top the group, we’ll automatically qualify for the Top 8 (final round), composed of the winners of the five group qualifiers, host Maldives and the two best second-placers. The winner (Challenge Cup champion) will then go to the Asian Cup (2015). That’s what we’ll be preparing for,” said Araneta. The PFF chief also said they plan to organize an Independence Cup by June. “Hopefully, we can hold a tournament coinciding with our Independence Day. June 6-12 are Fifa calendar days so we hope we can invite teams to come over and play against our national team during that period,” said Araneta. There’s also the possibility that Phl will stage a second edition of the Philippine Football Peace Cup – the four-nation meet that the Azkals won on home soil last year – by September. After the holidays, the Azkals are slated to return to training on Sunday to start their buildup for the Challenge Cup qualifiers. A training camp in the Middle East is also being eyed by February. www.philstar.com/sports/2013/01/02/892425/can-azkals-go-farther-2013
Some hinted possible camps, tournaments for Azkals this year - Middle East Camp in February - possibly utilizing Feb 6 for a friendly game
- Independence Cup in June - June has 2 week FIFA match days
- Possible 2nd Philippine Peace Cup in September

PFF eyes Independence Day Cup in JuneABS-CBNnews.com Posted at 01/02/2013 6:49 PM | Updated as of 01/02/2013 10:49 PM Azkals prepare for Challenge Cup qualifiers MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) is planning to hold an international tournament that will coincide with the Philippine Independence Day in June. PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta told The Philippine Star that they intend to bring in several foreign teams that will compete with the Azkals in the tournament. “Hopefully, we can hold a tournament coinciding with our Independence Day,” said Araneta. “June 6-12 are FIFA calendar days so we hope we can invite teams to come over and play against our national team during that period,” he added. The Azkals are expected to kick-start their training early this year for the Challenge Cup qualifiers, which will begin in March. The Philippine squad is grouped together with Turkmenistan, Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam in Group E. The Challenge Cup tournament proper will take place in 2014. Wow in this article it turns out the Azkals were invited to play Hungary on Feb 6 but Mr. Dan Palami has rejected saying they are a very high level at the moment and wants the Azkals to build confidence and playing Hungary might make it hard for that to happen. sports.inquirer.net/80515/azkals-shun-friendly-with-crack-hungary

That's good decision by Palami. . . if they'll play the Hungarians no.32 in the world, they will be beaten ruthlessly thus will definitely can diminish their confidence level. . .
