This is simply outrageous! What kind of crazy politician would want to turn a football pitch to a motorcross track where it will be noisy and annoying for the residents of Barotac Nuevo?
In my hometown, the only football pitch we have isn't just used for football; it has been used for Boy Scout camps, trade exhibitions, and concert events. Good thing our local FA and our city government have decent budgets to maintain and restore the pitch.
But to convert a pitch into a motorcross track in a town with a meager government budget? CRAZY!
Rick Olivares has written in his blog about the situation of the pitches in some neighbouring towns; one of which, Sta. Barbara, where its main pitch was halved with the construction of a health center. This has garnered protest from locals. Such a sad situation.
I think these conversions are indications that corrupt politicians in that part of the Visayas would want to sacrifice football to something more "profitable." This has got to be stopped.

Actually I am quite surprised by all this. When a town gets a reputation for being the capital of anything, they usually try to take advantage of that by building museums and the like to attract tourists and sell merchandise. I think it is kind of shortsighted for those politicians for not doing everything they can to build on that reputation. Instead they seem bent on ruining that rep.
I suggest that the football loving public in those areas threaten those politicians by setting up a political campaign to oust them from their position in the next local elections unless they reconsider. The one segment of the society that will be most affected by this decision is their children and usually that issue is a pretty good rallying point for any political campaign.

there is no truth to the plan that the pitch will be converted into a motocross track. i assure you , if that pol do that he can kiss his and his family's political ambitions goodbye. the pitch is under renovation but was DELAYED due to incooperable weather the past few months. some people with a funny sense of humor threw corn seeds on some part of the pitch and as a result it now looks like a cornfield. there is truth however that the pol boasted on the opening day of the motocross competition that he will make the town moto-x capital of the visayas. the reason being that the locals are fewer nowadays on the azkals roster, methinks he was just used to having 30% of the nat'l team coming from his town. improving the pitch is a good step forward, but pouring barotacnons taxes to motorsports is a step on the wrong direction. it should be spent on a good local football program that would make the local kids more competitive on the reinvigorated local football scene.

indeed they should have used the funds for football, i mean look at that field ;D its hideous!
and are those suppose to be bleachers? i wouldnt want to go near them omg...the whole field looks like it could seat only 500 people...or 10,000 if people dont mind standing and circled the entire field.
and this is the place we hosted Tajikistan and the rest during the AFC challenge cup in '07? my, playing here would feel like playing in a high school competition.

That's not the pitch that you're talking about. And it's obviously small coz it's in front of a Church. Looks like a park/football field. The pitch that you're talking about by the way is in Bacolod, Barotac Nuevo is in Ilo-Ilo.

The plaza field was used for 2008 AFC Challenge Cup qualifications and not the 2007 AFC Challenge Cup, where we did host Tajikistan and drew 0-0. In fact, this was Neil Etheridge's debut tournament.

usapang football you are also both right and wrong.
we did hosted tajikistan and drew 0-0 but that match was played at the iloilo sports complex in iloilo city and not at barotac. the azkals played one match at barotac but it was against bhutan where they won 3-0. the azkals and taj were tied at 7 points but the tajiks advanced to the next round due to a better goal differential.
