The Malaysia Super League (Liga Super Malaysia) is a Malaysian professional league for association football. It is at the top flight of the Malaysian football league system and it is managed by the Malaysia Super League Sdn Bhd, under supervision of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM). The league is contested between 14 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Malaysia Premier League. The 14 clubs participating in this top flight league need to pass a set of requirements and verification process, particularly related to professionalism and infrastructure feasibility. It was previously known as the Semi-Pro League from 1989 to 1993 and the M-League (Liga-M) from 1993 to 2004. It is currently sponsored by Astro and therefore officially known as the Astro Malaysia Super League. The competition formed in 2004 following the decision by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to privatize the league. As a result, MSL Sendirian Berhad (or MSL Proprietary Limited) was created to oversee the marketing aspects of the league. Since 1979, a total of 11 clubs have been crowned champions of the Malaysian football system. PKNS FC aka fire ants Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Selangor Football Club or PKNS FC is a Malaysia football club based in Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This team is currently playing in the first tier of Malaysian football, the Malaysia Super League. It is also involved in the Malaysian FA Cup and the Malaysia President Cup. Some of its junior players are also involved with their various respective university football leagues. Although it is a club which was revived relatively recently, PKNS FC boasts of having had a number of great Malaysian footballing legends within the organisation, with the likes of Mokhtar Dahari and Santokh Singh, among others in the 70s and early 80s. AFC Cup group stage draw: Warriors and Giants get favourable draws Kelantan and Selangor given competitive opponents for their Asian adventure next year as both look to better previous performances in the tournament Malaysia’s representatives for the 2013 AFC Cup – Kelantan and Selangor, have been handed reasonable group stage draws in the competition. Malaysian champions and this year’s quarter-finalists Kelantan were drawn in Group G, and will have Ayeyawady United (Myanmar), SHB Da Nang (Vietnam) and Maziah Sports & Recreation Club (Maldives) for company. Selangor, the country’s most successful team, will return to the competition for the third time after finishing as second runners-up in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) this season.
