PFF plans to keep U-15 girls core intact after historic AFF silver medal finish In spite of losing at the final hurdle against perennial powerhouse Thailand, the silver medals won by the Philippine U-15 girls football team was a milestone as they’ve reached the final for the first time in the tournament which gives the Philippine Football Federation an extra motivation in continuing the program with the 2019 AFC U-16 Women’s qualifiers as the next target. by Earl Averilla From the airport the team headed for a thanksgiving lunch in Taguig for their achievement and representing the country in the ASEAN-level competition very well. Coach Marielle Benitez shared her thoughts on tournament and the overall girls’ program that developed the core of this particular team. “The team won the silver last year in the U-14 so the program that Coach Joyce (Landagan) and even Coach Let (Dimzon) started three to four years ago was very good. So I am seeing already the result of that grassroots. The level of players right now is they’re smart technically… (and) they already have the basics.” In terms of how the team fared against Thailand, coach Marielle pointed out: “Our girls are close with regards to game understanding and maybe the only difference between us and Thailand have been the individual skills. Majority of the Thai team have very high technical skills and it is something that each of our individual players need to work on… whether they play in their school team or club team.” Most importantly Coach Marielle mentioned the potential of the squad in the international stage: “…if this group continues, I’m sure they’ll still be able to impress and really make a mark in Asia.” The next challenge for this team in their progression in their age bracket is the 2019 AFC Under 16 tournament where they will need to undergo the qualifiers stage. PFF General Secretary Atty. Edwin Gastanes noted on the competitions at hand and he shared the federation’s intention in keeping the core of the team intact in order to maintain its progress and competitiveness in international football. www.foxsportsasia.com/en-ph/women's-football/news/detail/item693713/pff-plans-to-keep-u-15-girls-core-intact-after-historic-aff-silver-medal-finish/

10 May 2019 U15 GIRLS: NHAT LAN-DS DOUBLE ON PHILIPPINES CHONBURI (10 May 2019) – Tran Nhat Lan landed a double to deliver Vietnam they first three points in Group A of the AFF Under15 Girls’ Championship 2019 that was played this evening at the Institute of Physical Education Stadium. Following from Myanmar’s big win over Timor Leste earlier, the battle between Vietnam and the Philippines were end to end as both teams were all eager in search of their first full points. But while the Philippines were cool, calm and collected against a well organised team like Vietnam, it was obvious that they were having trouble to get into their opponent’s backline. And with Pham Thanh Huyen having a good control of the midfield, the Philippines were struggling to get more presence in the last quarter of the pitch. Bui Thi Thuong tested Philippines keeper Maria Andrea Evangelista early in the sixth minute that was blocked while some moments later, it was Nhat Lan’s turn with a first timer. In the 24th minute, Philippines had their first look at goal but Angely Alterez’s attempt went wide even though custodian Le Thi Tra My was off position. Howevere, there was no denying Nhat Lan Vietnam’s first goal of the game when she fired in from the right to totally catch Maria flat footed. With the score to Vietnam’s advantage in the first half, the Philippines upped their game after the breather but again, they just could not find their way through against a well-disciplined Vietnam backline. And as their frustration grew, it was Vietnam who went ahead again in the 62ndminute of play with Nhat Lan firing in from the edge of the box that came down the Philippines crossbar and into goal. www.aseanfootball.org/v3/u15-girls-nhat-lan-ds-double-on-philippines/
