Suzuki Cup Negros Occ. prov’l elims onMon. Mar. 05, 2012 By Jerome S. Galunan Jr. WATCHMEN DAILY JOURNAL/SCOOP-Bacolod NEW breed of homegrown football talents from Negros Occidental are again expected to take the challenge when the 2012 Negros Occidental Football Association (NOFA) Provincial Championships kick off this March with three major football qualifying tournaments, namely: the U23 Suzuki Cup, U16 National Championship and U19 national Championship. NOFA Secretary-General Pauline Javelona yesterday disclosed that four teams will be competing in the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Qualifying rounds for the U23 Suzuki Cup which is scheduled today, March 6, at the Ayala North football pitch. The teams, to compete in the March 6-10 tournament, are the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R), University of St. La Salle – Bacolod (Ceres-La Salle), West Negros University (WNU) and the La Carlota City Football Club. The Negros team, bankrolled by Ceres, is the defending U23 Suzuki PFF National Cup champion. This after the local squad defeated Iloilo team in a home and away finals last year. That was 1-all in an away game and 9-nil at home. Meanwhile, the U23 Suzuki Cup –Visayas Qualifying will simultaneously kick off on March 18 at the Silliman University football field in Dumaguete Cty and Leyte Sports Complex in Leyte on a home and away format. Playing at the Silliman pitch will be NOFA facing host-Negros Oriental Football Association (NORFA) while Leyte FA defending its turf against Cebu FA. The home matches for NOFA are scheduled on April 21, May 7, 12 and 28 with Panaad Stadium as the squad’s home pitch. Javelona explained that the U23 qualifying matches were shifted to Ayala North pitch as the Panaad Stadium will not be available during these scheduled games due to the preparation for the western Visayas Regional Athletic Meet set March 12-16, 2012. On the other hand, Qualifying Rounds for the U16 and U19 National Championships will be on March 24 at the Panaad Stadium.* www.pinoyfootball.com/articles/11100547/Suzuki-Cup-Negros-Occ-prov’l-elims-on

Search for next Azkals on at Suzuki U-23 tiff By Alder Almo (philstar.com) Updated March 07, 2012 04:23 PM MANILA, Philippines – The search for the future Azkals intensifies as the Philippine Football Federation Suzuki Under-23 National Cup kicks off this month. The local adaptation of the AFF Suzuki Cup where the Philippine Azkals rose to prominence hopes to lure more untapped talents among the 33 provincial football associations this year. “Along with the football hype in the country is our ceaseless search for a stronger Philippine team. This (tournament) will definitely groom our young spirants to reach their potential,” said PFF President Mariano “Nonong” Araneta. “We are grateful for the support of Suzuki to Philippine football.” Last year’s edition saw the rise of Joshua Beloya, a vital cog of the Negros Occidental squad that won the crown. Beloya, eventually, earned a spot in the U-23 national team that played in last year’s Southeast Asian Games where he emerged as the team’s top scorer with three goals. Suzuki Philippines President Satoshi Uchida, who was also present during this morning's press launch at the PFF office in Pasig City, lauded the PFF for advancing the sport in the country. “One of Suzuki Philippines’ thrust is really the development of local sports. We have seen the likes Beloya, Neckson Leonora and Jinggoy Valmayor, all products of the PFF Suzuki Cup U-23 national cup, represent the country in the SEA Games last year. They, together, with their teams, are living testimonies why we continue to pledge for the sports’ development in the country,” Uchida said. Unlike last year’s edition which only ran for three months, the second edition of the Cup will extend to next year in preparation for the 2013 SEA Games in Myanmar. The PFF is hoping to form the core of the national U-23 national team from the tournament. A total of ten teams – three each from Luzon and Visayas and four from Mindanao – will advance to the national championships next year. The home-and-away format adopted for the semis and finals is expected to bring more excitement and the fans to the venues. The Visayas leg will kick-off on March 18 in Dumaguete City while the Mindanao eliminations will start on March 25 in Cagayan de Oro City. Luzon leg will get underway on April 1 in Calamba, Laguna. www.philstar.com/SportsArticle.aspx?articleId=784739&publicationSubCategoryId=200

Sports: Ceres-LS vs. WNU in Finals of NOFA Men’s U-23 Provincial ChampionshipCeres-La Salle Football Club and West Negros University Football club will dispute the 2012 Negros Occidental Football Association Men’s Under-23 Provincial Championship at the North football field in Talisay City tomorrow, March 10. Ceres-La Salle had a clean win-loss card slate after winning all its assignment against three other squads to include West Negros University FC (2-1), with the 2-0 win last Wednesday, according to NOFA General coordinator Paulline M. Javelona. Other participating teams were La Carlota City FC, 1-2, and University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos FC (0-3) that played a single round elimination which started March 6, 2012. On the other hand, organizer awarded to La Carlota City FC match No. 3 last March 7 against UNO-R FC when they abandoned their bench against Ceres-La Salle FC in match No. 2 last Tuesday, whom they also lost following the collision involving UNO-R goalkeeper Jay Ervin Longno and Ceres-La Salle player Joshua Beloya. Said collision resulted to the injury of Longno prompting Torbela to asked permission to enter the field presumably to assist his goalkeeper but instead verbally and attempted to assault physically referee Jeffrey Velez. As a result, UNO-R FC team abandoned their bench and were given 15 minutes to go back to the bench plus another 10 minutes before it was declared as an abandoned match. Abandoned match will be awarded in favour of their opponent as stipulated in the FIFA Disciplinary Code Article 56, abandonment will disqualify the team from the competition in progress and must be given a fine, Javelona disclosed. Meanwhile, UNO-R FC and La Carlota City FC did not show up in their succeeding matches against WNU FC and Ceres-La Salle respectively.* (CMGarde) ndb-online.com/030912/sports-news/sports-ceres-ls-vs-wnu-finals-nofa-men%E2%80%99s-u-23-provincial-championship

Sports: Ceres-La Salle Wins U23 Suzuki Cup Prov’l Finals;Submitted by James Toga on Mon, 03/12/2012 - 06:48 Bacolod City Ceres James Toga Sports News The Ceres-University of St. La Salle side on Saturday has sent a strong message to the rest of the title contenders in the U23-Philippine Football Federation Suzuki National Cup that they are ready to defend its crown. The team will be representing Negros Occidental Football Association in the Visayas qualifying starting March 18 against Negros Oriental Football Association in Silliman ground in Duamaguete City. This after Freddie ‘Nene’ Lazarito-mentored Ceres-La Salle squad repeated over its archrival West Negros University Mustangs of coach Norman Fegidero, 3-1 during the NOFA U23 Provincial Elimination Finals last Sunday at the Ayala North Point pitch. Powered by three Azkals U23 strikers Joshua Beloya and Gerardo Valmayor III, and defender Reymark Fernandez as well as last year’s ‘best goal keeper’ Robert Mendoza, the Ceres-La Salle team came out very aggressive all throughout the match. The champion held 70% of the entire game’s ball possession. Before halftime, J Baguioro sent the ball at the back of the net in the 40th minute to post a 1-nil lead at the break. In the resumption of the game, the disorganized Mustangs defense gave Ceres-La Salle’s Hanesin Prince Anthony to nail a curving shot from top of the penalty box past Mustangs’ keeper Leoben Wayco in the 57th minute. Anthony’s shot made the entire Ceres-La Salle bench in celebration as Joel Bedia sent another goal in the 63rd minute to extend the team’s lead to 3-nil. But Fegidero didn’t easily gave-up as he instructed his boys to keep focus and stay in the game. With 15 minutes left in the match, Shermar Felongco scored Mustangs’ lone goal in the 75th minute after taking the left flank escaping Ceres-La Salle defense as well failing keeper Mendoza to defend its goal. The score stood at 3-1 for Ceres-La Salle at the final whistle. Ceres-La Salle head coach Lazarito, in a post-game interview, said that he was very happy for winning the match. “What’s important is that we won the qualifying. We have prepared this team on a national level.” “As far as our preparation to the Visayas Cup, we will begin our preparation today. We will be building a stronger squad for this tournament,” Lazarito stressed. “I will be tapping Mustangs’ striker Jimuel Ariola to augment my offensive threat at the forward position,” he added. On the other hand, Fegidero congratulated La Salle for the victory. “I would like to congratulate La Salle for winning the elimination but I am very disappointed with the performance of my team. This is because some of my key players did not perform well. We really lack experience and, maybe because our team is also composed of young players, mostly 17 years old,” Fegidero explained. In the Visayas Cup, the champion Ceres-La Salle squad will banner Azkals U23 mainstays Beloya, Valmayor, Fernandez, ace keeper Mendoza, Anthony, Bedia, Baguioro, Florence Panogaling, Jimmy Malalo-an, Florence Agraviador, Anthony Tongson, George Balceda, Alan Alfaro, Neil Ryan Lirio, Norman Selotorio, Feb Beneminito Baya, Archie Familiar, Ramoniño Aledro, Kent Guevarra, John Vendell Marcellana, Joash Cabus, Bon Joevie Amanquiton, Chip Christian Robles, John Timothy Bolo and Jurex Replentes. The team is managed by Leo Rey Yanson while assisting Lazarito in the coaching task are Ramon Janeo, Ali Rojas Go, Michael Casas and Lemuel Unabia.* (with reports from SCOOP-Bacolod) www.ndb-online.com/031212/sports-news/sports-ceres-la-salle-wins-u23-suzuki-cup-prov%E2%80%99l-finalsNDB

Two late goals help USJ-R claim Under-23 title of Aboitiz Cup CEBU, Philippines - The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Kicking Jaguars banked on the late goals by Adrian Mejaran and Junefer Ebero to blank the University of Southern Philippines (USPF), 2-0, and rule the Under-23 division of the 14th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field in Brgy. Subangdaku, Mandaue City. Aside from clinching the title, the USJ-R booters also earned the right to represent Cebu in the Visayas leg of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Suzuki Cup Under-23 National Championship set on March 18 in Dumaguete City.Going into the match, USJ-R trailed by one point against USPF, 3-4, but the two-point victory was all it needed to take home the champion's trophy in this leage-type tournament. The two protagonists fought on even terms and relied heavily on their stifling defense resulting into an almost scoreless draw. USPF, however, somehow ran out of gas, paving the way for back-to-back goals by USJ-R courtesy of Mejaran at the 91st and Ebero at the 93rd. Aside from Mejaran and Ebero, the other members of the USJ-R squad are Henry Perales (goalie), Joel Cahilog, Jovan Torres, John Ejara, Jestoni Pialago, Harold Daga, Russel Layumas, Rikko de Guzman, Ronan de Guzman, James Rodney Parel, Earl Yagao, Agapito Baclaan, Jun-Jun Pintuan, Harry Bordalba, Edwardo Buglosa, Lester Agravnate, Rafael Broce and John Lester Sembra. www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=786346&publicationSubCategoryId=110

That "undisclosed reason" is obviously "club commitments." Beloya's still with Kaya to prepare for the continuation of the abandoned fixture vs. Stallion. Valmayor and Fernandez are with Diliman preparing for their match vs. Pachanga tonight.
