Also, when are the transfer windows open in the Philippines? The official website is still a bit "thin" on information about the PFL. Things like current squads and line-ups etc. are not covered. Do you guys have a better source for this kind of info? I watched some game replays, but they also lack a bit of info. I haven't found my favorite club yet Transfer window officially closed earlier this month.

The Singaporean guy who helped set up the PFL has this to say about it in relation to how Singapore runs things: Bharati: But how possible is it to do even more than before with less money than before? Sasi: I work with quite a lot of football associations around the region, and I look at the way they perform. Let’s look at the Philippine Football League, the Philippine Football Federation. I'm working with them now. I helped them launch the pro-league and I'm quite close to the top management there. The money they get to run the association is a fraction of what we get here. A fraction. And they are the highest-ranked team in Southeast Asia. Of course, we know that they scout for a lot of players who are playing overseas but that’s not their fault, is it? It’s because they’ve got talent to pick from. But considering the population is 100 million, and they are a vast country, there are a lot of logistics involved in travel and stuff like that. But they make it work. Bharati: How do they make it work? Sasi: The reality is that people who run football there are invested in the right places. Of course, there are some failings and there are a lot of shortcomings. There are a lot of challenges in their country, but the one thing they’ve really done is that they’ve put their heart in the right place, and they are prudent in the way they run a football association. Bharati: You say they are invested in the right places and run the association prudently. Elaborate on that. Sasi: They are paying a lot of attention to the grassroots. They know they need to pay more attention to the grassroots even though most of their national team players are coming from overseas. They know that they need to create a new crop of local players, and now, they have launched a player registry to track every player, with external help as well. They are living within their means but they are also trying to stretch their dollar. Every dollar they put out, they're trying to get a proper return on investment. Bharati: One might say that comparing the Philippines to Singapore isn’t fair. They have more willing sponsors, a larger market, things are cheaper there. These things are problematic in Singapore. Sasi: Yes, it’s been a problem. If you talk to any brand manager, they will tell you that Singapore is not a big market. The market place is not big enough to justify millions of dollars being poured into it. That’s their entire marketing budget. Cancellation of a scheduled game when players are already in the pitch, is not only strange but alarming. There were bad rumors floating out there that is very disturbing. Can Filipinos do anything RIGHT! Or are they just trying to be very MONEY smart. You have to buy the lotto ticket to win the prize.

Anyone interested in buying a football team? We could pool our money, be shareholders, and force a seat or two (or more) in the management board. Now all we need are five people with P1 million or 5000 people with P1000 each.

Didn't realize the PFL uses a tournament format to crown the champion. I prefer a league table, but that's me.
At any rate, I'm rooting for Ceres as the inaugural champion.

Ilocos United 2 hrs
Ilocos United Football Club has today decided to withdraw from the Philippines Football League (PFL) for the 2018 season.
Unfortunately, after months of negotiation, efforts to attract a new naming sponsor for the Team were unsuccessful. Consequently, it has become financially prohibitive to continue participation in the PFL. Primarily, the lack of broadcasting exposure in 2017 created an apprehension in the corporate community, cascading into a series of afflictions that has ultimately led to our withdrawal from the competition.
The Club, our players, coaches, staff, and management, wish to extend our deepest gratitude to our supporter base around the country for its fervent and unwavering support throughout our 2017 campaign. We are cautiously optimistic of a potential return to the PFL for the 2019 season, whereby secured broadcasting exposure will hopefully lead to higher confidence from potential sponsorship partners.
In the meantime, the foundation of football development we helped to build in Ilocos will continue, including grassroots initiatives at local schools, women’s futsal, Special Olympics, and, of course, the IUFC Academy.
We wish the PFL continued growth and urge that the nation joins us in continuing to support the development of the beautiful game in the Philippines.
Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram for the latest news and updates from IUFC.
Tony Lazaro CEO, Ilocos United Football Club

Hopefully this is not the beginning of the end of the PFL with both Loyola and Ilocos United backing out this year. Can a league survive with only 6 teams? Any further withdrawals will put the league at risk.

Any further withdrawals will put the league at risk. I really hope noone else withdraws. It was a big gamble to start off big like the PFL. I hope they learn from their mistakes.

MLS also nearly collapsed a few years into its existence. A couple of billionaires decided to buy multiple teams operating even at a loss, to keep the league alive before eventually divesting when more owners appeared on the scene and as the league became more popular and achieved a measure of profitability. Hopefully they can find deep pocketed owners with a similar passion for football in the Philippines.

Copy pasting my comment on the Meralco thread: Just a question, will AFC recognize our league now that it has only 7 teams? From what I know, Liechtenstein cannot have it's own league because it only has seven teams. For the Philippines, will AFC recognize PFL? Now that they're down to 6, will AFC continue recognizing the league? Will the winners be included in AFC club competitions?
