Used substitutes, De Jong, Porteria and Daniels. . I think Dooley is prioritising these players as they are with the team since day 1 of his tenure... Just wondering What would Cagara and Mulders felt after being left out, they too have sacrificed a lot for the sake of serving national duty there in Maldives... Just wondering how would Palami felt when Dooley preferred Sato and Doctora over players whose release from their respective Euro clubs was done in painstaking manner.. I've gathered Palami went heavens and earths in convincing Euro clubs. .. Perhaps Coach Dooley is a man who like to keep aces in his sleeves. He must be reserving Mulders and Cagara for the tougher game with Turkmenistan. I had seen him used Mulders here in Bahrain and definitely he know that he can contribute to the game decisively. The element of surprise is always a good strategical and tactical option in any fight so I believe that's what our coach is up to. With Phil, Gier, Mulders, Cagara and Muller yet to be utilized we can only be optimistic that the best is yet to come for the Azkals.

I didn't felt the presence of Doctora last night. He's a "boy dapa" like Ian Araneta against those 6-foot Afghan defenders. And he's running here and there, as described by the earlier comments here; a headless chicken. But he is not there (not in the good position) to receive i.e. noticed when Recihelt getting tentative in crossing the ball inside the box, he is sermoning Balot "I need you to be there! I need you to be there!".
Some people might say (or maybe 1 guy here in this forum) that he lacks the height to joust inside the box for those crosses. But hey, then why did we selected him in the firt place! If he is creative and intelligent (football-intelligent that is) enough, then i don't believe his height wont be an issue. *sigh* Doctora is better than Chieffy. But at least Chieffy had goals against Arab players i.e. Bahrain friendlies.
Moving forward, we really need Phil YH in the remaining matches over Doctora.

And Sato will be one our best assets in the future, at 19yrs old he is playing like a veteran, he might have been overpowered at times , but overall he played well for his age. Schrock is still our best player, we just need to have better forwards to compliment his surges( hope phil will give us those goals against laos and with the turks). Midfield is our best assets, Def suffers a bit on long balls and counters( lacks of speed but very efficient in the box) but overall they did well. We do really need a better finisher and Phil is our best and purest striker that we have in the line up. And burkey could have been usefull on those crosses and corners.

Have to watch the game again in replay. . . My observations, though Sato lost possessions at times his performance is a revelation. . . JYH and Doctora sucks. . . Schrock is more effective I think in the right wing especfically in set pieces... Fakityar, Afghans' keeper is the man of the match... Finishing strong and lack of creativity remains a problem. .. Our back 4 did a splendid job overall...

Philippines was so lucky to have schrock. He's a cut above the rest. Plus he has that never say die mentality,we also got a good defensive player with him on the flanks. I saw the lack of familiarity of doctora with our midfielders. Unlike when we have phil, schrock and his brother can feed him useful balls.

I want to defend Balot here, but his performance vs AFG left a lot to be desired. You'd wonder if Phil was there, he'd score one.
Otherwise, I'll take the point and take my chances with the last two games. Laos is a must-win.

Thoughts on the match after watching the replay:
1.The players were a bit nervous in the first 20 to 30 minutes of the match(maybe the after effects of their harrowing boat ride on their way to the stadium) but once they settled down, they pretty much dominated the game.
2. Schrock was the best player on the field, a cut above everyone else and was hard to contain even with 3 Afghan players defending him.
3. They missed Paul Mulders, their attacking mid, who could have helped organize the attack and Phil Younghusband whose pace and finishing ability could have changed the outcome of the game.
4. Both new players Simone Rota(right back) and Daisuke Sato(left back) are solid defenders and Sato's shots on goal were right on target and would have gone in except for the heroics of the Afghan goaltender.
5. The Afghan goaltender was outstanding and was the major reason the game finished in a draw.
6. Finally the Azkals was a lot fitter than the Afghans, basically maintaining the tempo of the attack in the 2nd half all the way to the end of the game, when the Afghans started tiring. We can thank Dooley and the coaching staff for helping them reach this level of fitness.

That just smacks of clutching at straws or very brain dead!! So you think Dooley brought him into the fold because he's able to mix it up with height or his aerial ability?!? lol!!!! You then say if (and that's one big IF) he's creative and intelligent, he'd be alright. Well that's just it... he's not creative! He's barely technically adept as is, never mind being a creative outlet! He is intelligent though, in the sense that he's got good movement which is helped by his pace/mobility. That's why Dooley brought him in, there are quotes somewhere, where Dooley says this and not because of his height or anything else. Caligdong scored goals because he plays out wide! He also improved on his off the ball movement with regards to getting into goal scoring positions and making those type of runs coming from wide positions, it's easier to get on the end of things and score. It doesn't necessarily make him a better overall footballer! Doctora then should be used as a sub or against lowly opposition like Laos. Or better yet, not use him at all!!
