It looks like there's a change in the format of the new UFL season. FA League Cup will take the place of the UFL Cup this September to November/December, then I assume the UFL League and UFL Cup will run simultaneously next year like in other football leagues around the world.
@philliphagedorn 8m UFL season kicks off Sept. 20 with the Football Alliance League Cup. UFL League and UFL Cup starts in Jan. 2015 in line with ASEAN leagues.

Letter to UFL: Mr. Rely San Agustin General Manager United Football League 5/F Oakridge Plaza Bldg. Paseo de Magallanes, Makati City Subject: LOI for FA League Cup 2014
Dear Rely,
First of all, allow me to take this opportunity to congratulate you for your appointment as the new UFL General Manager. I am particularly happy for you, and I am sure I represent the entire team, managers, present and former players, when I wish you the best for this endeavor. We know that UFL has gain a lot by appointing you as its GM. Good luck, it’s our Game!!
Unfortunately, however, the main subject of this letter is to officially confirm that due to an extreme negative financial situation, UIM FC will not be able to join the FA League Cup this time. By the present letter, I would like also to inform that we are dropping all current players from the roster. I hope that this situation would be temporary and we would be able to join the 2015 Cup and League.
Respectfully yours, Jorge Müller General Manager UIM FC
that's sad to know. I had high hopes for UIM when they went on a dream run last UFL cup. sad they couldn't put the same performance in the League, and now this

New FA League Cup Marks Start of ASEAN-geared 2014-15 UFL Season The 2014-15 United Football League season officially gets underway on September 20, with the introduction of the new FA League Cup to the Philippine club football calendar. The new competition pushes the start of the UFL Cup and League to January 2015, synchronizing with the rest of the South East Asian footballing schedule. “We are very excited with the new format changes for UFL season 2014-15. Outside of our main objective to eventually align our league schedules with those of our ASEAN neighbors, we are also continuously looking at ways to accelerate the growth of the sport domestically and make it more exciting for our growing fan base,” said UFL President Randy Roxas. The new tournament includes the 20 teams that form the two divisions in the UFL. It begins with a qualifying round for the 2nd Division’s bottom eight clubs, with the best four moving on to a 16-team Group stage. After a single round, the top two teams that emerge from the four groups move on to the single-match knockout stages, culminating in a November 6 final. All matches are scheduled at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. In consideration of the Philippine National Football Team’s busy end to 2014, the FA League Cup kicks off shortly after the Peace Cup, and ends before the start of the AFF Suzuki Cup, avoiding any scheduling conflicts. This was agreed upon after the UFL met with Azkals manager Dan Palami, and head coach Thomas Dooley earlier in the week. “This is the first time that the Azkals and UFL leadership have actually sat together to jointly prepare a schedule that considers the mutual requirements of both entities. With this stronger cooperation, borne out of our passion for the beautiful game, it can only bode well for the growth of the UFL and the Azkals; as well as Philippine football as a whole,” said Men’s National Football Team manager Dan Palami. “In behalf of the national team, I would like to thank the UFL for sharing our vision of bringing local football to the bigger stage of Asia and hopefully the world.” The recent meeting between the UFL and the Philippine Men’s National Football Team further strengthens the bond between the two pillars of Philippine Football. “When Coach [Thomas] Dooley arrived in February, his first order of business was to sit down with UFL management and owners of UFL clubs to share his vision and objectives as far as the national team was concerned. This alignment of schedules and objectives resulted in more UFL talent being represented in the national team. Recent international results, and FIFA’s latest ranking which sees the Azkals as the highest ranked ASEAN team, is a clear indication that this working relationship has brought about positive results. Having said that, we are very pleased to have this alignment meeting again for the coming UFL season. The UFL will continue to contribute what it can for the national interest,” said Roxas. The official FA League Cup draw, which will reveal the groupings, takes place on September 15, a day after all player movement is finalized in the first of three available transfer windows in the UFL season. ufl.ph/new-fa-league-cup-marks-start-of-asean-geared-2014-15-ufl-season/

The upcoming UFL season could be the best one to date. here are the latest updates: UFL Introduces New Additions to Exciting Upcoming Season The United Football League completed a whole day planning session on August 30 to streamline the highly anticipated 2014-15 UFL season. With the Football Alliance, the organizing body of the UFL, in full force, the group emerged from the affair with plenty of excitement for the nation’s premier football competition. “With the planning process complete, preparations for the coming 2014-15 season are now in full swing,” said UFL General Manager Rely San Agustin. “A few major adjustments have been agreed upon, such as close coordination with the PFF to make sure we are aware of the Men’s National Team schedule, ensuring conflicts no longer become an issue. We’ve also taken the first steps to align our league schedule with other ASEAN countries, a major move to professionalize the UFL. We’re also going to run the UFL Cup and League simultaneously in 2015, an endeavor which has never been done in the country before.” Aside from the massive undertakings to improve the United Football League’s calendar, San Agustin revealed thrilling new prospects for the nation’s rapidly-growing base of football fans. “A lot of new activities have been planned to help promote the UFL. One major highlight this coming season is the UFL All-Star Weekend which is set for May 2015. The possibility of staging the first provincial game in the Visayas region is also in the works. Right now, we are preparing for the FA League Cup to kick off the season. We have 14 clubs participating and this will be the first time that we will be implementing an FA League Cup draw starting from the group stages all the way to the Semi-finals,” said San Agustin. “Overall, this promises to be an exciting season as all our plans are geared towards solidifying the UFL as the country’s premier league.” The first ever FA League Cup, the season’s first tournament, is set to kickoff on September 20, with the draw for the 14 participating clubs scheduled to take place on Thursday (Sept 4), 2:30pm, on New Media Factory’s (www.nmftv.com) football podcast, Hans-on. The draw will see the 14 clubs separated into two groups of seven, where the top four will advance to the quarterfinals. Separate draws will take place before the quarterfinals and semi-finals to determine which clubs will face off. When 2015 comes around, Filipino football fans can look forward to roughly 240 senior matches, with over 500 Youth games in seven different age categories. ufl.ph/ufl-introduces-new-additions-to-exciting-upcoming-season/The idea of an FA Cup is really great and I hope it's gonna be successful. It also adds more matches for each club. The holding of the League and the Cup is also a fantastic idea. What I'm really excited about is the number of top caliber teams in the first division this year. The only club that doesn't have proper support is Philippine Army, but aside from them, other clubs are professional clubs or nearly professional. just look at the division 1 clubs: Ceres Global Green Archers United Kaya Loyola Meralco Sparks Manila Jeepney Pachanga Diliman Stallion Team Socceroo Philippine Army

Also, why 14 clubs? 14 is an unusual number in groupings because the only way to do the groupings is 2 groups of 7 or 7 groups of 2. 7 clubs in a group is too many for a cup IMO.
