Transferred. Bright point for the Azkals in the game is the smashing debut of Hikaru Minegishi. He only played in the second half, but immediately made his presence felt, creating chances and nearly scored himself a few times. Looking forward, it looks like he will be a mainstay on the team for years to come. He also won the Golden Ball in the UFL this season for scoring 18 goals and creating chances for his club Global FC and at one point scored 17 goals in 17 league matches. Welcome to the Profiles Hikaru.

Thai League 1 outfit Pattaya United have confirmed that Philippines international Hikaru Minegishi will be their ASEAN import player for the 2018 season. It marks a remarkable rise for the half-Japanese winger, who only made his professional debut in 2015 with Global Cebu having only previously played for Sendai University at college level. However, it did not take long for the silky-skilled Minegishi to impress and, by the following December, he was already a full international representing Philippines at the 2016 AFF Suzuki Cup. “Signing this deal is a new challenge for me in my professional career and I’m very excited to be playing in the Thai League, where there’s a wealth of skilled, in-form players,” he said, on Pattaya’s official Facebook page. “I will therefore put in the work to quickly adapt to the team’s system of play in order to help my new club to greater heights next year.” Since winning his first cap for the Azkals, Minegishi has been a regular feature in coach Thomas Dooley’s plans and is coming off the back of a season which saw him help Global finish as runners-up in the inaugural edition Philippines Football League. While Pattaya are not one of Thai football’s traditional heavyweights, they have made impressive improvement in recent times since winning promotion to T1 at the end of 2015, finishing 12th out of 18 teams in their first season back in the top flight before this year’s creditable 8th-place achievement. By sealing a move to Thailand’s premier division, Minegishi will follow in the footsteps of compatriots Javier Patino and Patrick Reichelt – who played for Buriram United and Port respectively – while Mike Ott is currently on the books of second-tier Angthong. www.foxsports.ph/football/asian-football/805499/philippines-import-hikaru-minegishi-excited-at-pattaya-united-challenge/
