RHB Singapore Cup QF First Leg: Global FC vs Geylang International (Thursday, 13 August, 7:30pm, Jalan Besar Stadium) Global FC will hope to continue their run in the 2015 RHB Singapore Cup when they take on Geylang International in the first leg of the quarter-finals on Thursday night at Jalan Besar Stadium. The Philippines side overcame Hougang United 2-1 in the preliminary round in May courtesy of goals from Norio Suzuki and Jason De Jong while the Eagles defeated another invited club, Lao Police FC, by the same scoreline. Leigh Manson’s charges have not lost a league match in the United Football League (UFL) since beating Hougang and are currently on an eight-match unbeaten run. They are also eight points away from the summit. In contrast, Geylang have not won a game since the start of July and find themselves languishing in the bottom half of the Great Eastern Yeo’s S.League table. However, the Eagles will be hoping that league form will go out of the window in cup competitions when they face the People's Club. In the recently-concluded The New Paper League Cup 2015, Jorg Steinebrunner’s charges reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual winners Albirex Niigata (S). That will be a boost for the Eagles, as they look to salvage whatever is left of their season so far. www.sleague.com/match-preview/singapore-cup/2015/august/2015-08-13/global-fc/

It is interesting to see that of the 4 semifinalists in the Singapore Cup, 3 are of foreign origin, including Global FC(Philippines), Albirex Niigata(Japan), and DPMM Brunei(Brunei). Global FC will be facing Albirex Niigata next.

That is cutting it too close to the Azkal's friendly against Vietnam on October 3. I presume that the national team players for Global FC will be in training camp already for the Azkals and will not be available for their club.

It might have been good if we follow s.league's style. We can invite foreign teams for UFL cup.

Azkals friendly against Vietnam has been cancelled because Global Fc is playing in Singapore Cup.
