FOOTBALL AMBASSADOR: Former Azkals captain Chieffy Caligdong is busy promoting football in the provinces with his Football Para Sa Bayan initiative of Globe TM.

CAGAYAN DE ORO City — CLOSE to 80 teams from all over Mindanao have already signed up to compete in the Globe TM Football Para sa Bayan Festival.
The tournament organized by the Cagayan Misamis Oriental Football Association (CMOFA) and also supported by PRU Life UK for it’s Football For a Better Life program will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Park football field in Carmen in front of the Country Village Hotel.
The festival is 7X7 in format and competitions will be in seven categories.
Competition on May 16 will be for the Men’s Open, Ladies Open and the Under-17 Boys (born 1999 and above) categories.
On Sunday (May 17) competitions will be for the U-11 (born 2005), Under 13 (2003), U-15 (2001) and U-9 (2007 (5x5 format) ).
Globe Telecommunications/Touch Mobile football ambassador and former Azkals captain Chieffy Caligdong will be the guest of honor with British coach Chris Thomas during the opening ceremonies which will start at 8 a.m. Hostilities will kickoff at 9 a.m.
Chieffy and Thomas will also will be giving football clinics as part of the Football for a Better Life progam aimed at developing grassroots football in the country. The visit to Cagayan de Oro will be the fourth leg of the program’s ten-city nationwide tour supported by Pru Life UK Philippines.
Football promoter and long time supporter Albert Almendralejo of Spears Activation PR and football fan Rep. Rufus Rodriguez are also scheduled to grace the opening ceremony.
Teams who have confirmed their participation in the U-9 divisions are Naawan FC, Falcons FC-CDO, Montecarlo FC, Higala FC A CDO, VAN FC-Bukidnon, and Del Monte School FC.
In the U 11 category teams joining are IMCC Iligan City, Pagatpat FC, Montecarlo FC, Firewolves/Pagadian, Higala FC, OLLES FC Bukidnon, Milo Clinic CDO, Del Monte School FC, while in the U13 category teams joining are IMCC/Iligan City, Lumbia Raptors FC, Pagatpat FC/CDO, El Salvador FC, Falcons FC CDO, Montecarlo FC, Firewolves/Pagadian, Higala FC, VAV FC Bukidnon, Milo Clinic CDO, and Kalambohogan FC.
Participating teams in the U15 category are Firewolves/Pagadian, Raging Bears/Iligan, El Salvador FC, Higala B, Montecarlo FC, Higala A FC/CDO, VAV FC, and Milo Clinic CDO.
In the U17 category teams are Firewolves/Pagadian, Raging Bears Iligan, Lumbia FC Raptors, Liceo FC/CDO, El Salvador FC, Montecarlo FC, Higala FC, Xavier High School A, Xavier University High School team B, Uptown United.
