Probably one of the best azkals game ever in the same magnitude as the semifinal game against maldives at the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup. Thriller from start to end. Was shouting my lungs out when Misagh scored the first goal but when the everyone is still celebrating the goal the Nokors immediately equalized right at the half. Thats when I started to sip some Bacardi to calm myself down but ended up drinking more as a form of celebration haha. At least it keeps the sport at par again with more popular sports while on a long lull before Suzuki Cup

Yeah the AFC Cup though a club football of international level will bridge to the gap of nationall team games. Plus Dan Palami said that the Azkals will aim to use every FIFA slot to give the Azkals more exposure. Hopefully with our performance in WC qualifying, we will see the Philippines playing stronger teams in friendlies.

one of the best games i've ever seen the azkals played. who would have thought they can stand toe to toe against the mighty NoKor. they even dominated some part of the match.
i was about to say Tanton needs to be replaced due to chemistry, but man what a debut by him. Patino was very sharp the entire game, i gave him the motm. goodnight folks!

The Philippines could have done even better in WC qualifying if the UFL didn't have such a long break last year. They could have beaten Yemen and Bahrain if the players were in shape. With the players in peak condition after midseason competition this year, the players were a lot sharper in the last 2 games against Uzbekistan and N Korea like they were in the beginning of their campaign.

This win should bump up the Philippines quite a bit in the World ELO football rankings as North Korea is rated at 76.

PH Azkals stun North Korea with late comeback
The Azkals come back from a 1-2 deficit to win 3-2 in a thrilling home match against North Korea Jane Bracher
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine men's national football team completed an endgame comeback to stun the fancied North Korea, 3-2, in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup second round qualifiers on Tuesday, March 29, at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
The Azkals, needing 3 goals to stay alive in the qualifiers, came alive late in the second after a deflating sequence bridging the two halves saw North Korea net two goals for the 2-1 edge.
James Younghusband instantly provided much-needed spark off the bench late in the second half as the Azkals claimed back momentum for good.
Manny Ott capped off a beautiful sequence and show of teamwork with the equalizer at the 84-minute mark.
As North Korea gasped to keep running alongside the Azkals, Iain Ramsay sent the ball straight to the net for the game-winner at the 89th. The Philippines held on and sealed the deal in the extra 3 minutes.
The second seed North Korea, which advances to the next round, scored its two goals during added time of the first half and in the early moments of the second. – Rappler.com

NEIL Etheridge believes the Philippine men’s football team regained its never-say-die reputation after a pulling off a pulsating 3-2 victory over North Korea in their last game in the World Cup/Asian Cup second-round qualifying on Tuesday night. Just a few days after arriving from long flight from Tashkent where they put up a gallant stand in a 1-0 loss to top seed Uzbekistan, the Azkals showed the same relentlessness against another higher-ranked squad to finally get rewarded with a victory on home soil. “We were extremely tired; there’s been a lot of traveling,” said Etheridge, whose team overcame a one-goal deficit most of the second half with two goals in a span of five minutes late in the match. “The Uzbekistan game took majority of the energy out of the players and it just shows that we’ve got great stamina, great fight, and we’ll never say no and we’ll keeping working ‘til the last minute.” Etheridge was once again a rock as the last line of defense with plenty of rejections that kept the North Koreans at ba early in the first half. The Filipino-British goalkeeper admitted the Azkals would’ve been in a better position had they protected their early lead when Misagh Bahadoran put the team up two minutes before first-half stoppage time. Good thing, the Filipino booters conjured their resilience in the nick of time to the delight of the home crowd. “I think we were naïve after we scored the first goal,” Etheridge said. “We dropped too deep and got into a comfort zone after forty-five minutes. Maybe going into the second half, it would’ve been different if we were one-nil up.” “But the last two goals were fantastic,” he was quick to add. “It shows how much we’ve worked on the training field. Coaches have done a fantastic job.” Read more at www.spin.ph/football/azkals/news/neil-etheridge-philippine-azkals-football#a30Kvk4StOqrq4Oy.99

THE Philippine men’s football team refused to disappoint the home crowd as it stunned North Korea, 3-2, to finish its World Cup/Asian Cup second-round qualifying campaign on a high note on Tuesday night. The Azkals squandered an early lead and saw themselves trailing in the second half, but stayed stout defensively before finally getting rewarded with two goals late in the second half to secure the impressive victory against a country ranked 94th in the world. Iaian Ramsay came off the bench in the second half and scored the game-winner a minute before stoppage time off a nifty feed from Javier Patino. “The words we have on our t-shirts: ‘We believe’ – that was the main thing,” Azkals coach Thomas Dooley said. “We just had to believe we can play football and beat teams like North Korea.” The Philippines has now been assured of a berth in the third round of the Asian Cup qualifying after finishing the second round in third spot with 10 points in eight matches as Bahrain wound up fourth with nine points following a 1-0 loss to Uzbekistan in Tashkent. Misagh Bahadoran, playing in his first match since serving a one-game suspension, heralded his return with a header off a rebound that increased his tournament total to a team-leading three goals and put the Azkals up two minutes before first-half stoppage time. But the Koreans quickly equalized as So Kyong Jin scored off their own rebound as the Azkals failed to make a clearance in the last possession of the first half. Despite suddenly finding themselves trailing after Korea found the back of the anew three minutes after intermission, the Azkals played without pressure and kept taking the fight to their higher-ranked foes. The Filipino booters were finally rewarded as Manny Ott finished a team goal in the 84th minute to knot the count anew and set the stage for Ramsay’s heroics five minutes later.
