AFC MA(Member Association) Rankings is used by the AFC to determine AFC Champions League and AFC Cup allocations. It is based on both club results in international competitions as well as FIFA national team rankings and results within the past 4 years. The criteria, which is a modified version of the UEFA coefficient, measures such thing as marketability and stadia to determine the specific number of berths that an association receives. The higher an association's ranking as determined by the criteria, the more teams represent the association in the Champions League and the AFC Cup, and the fewer qualification rounds the association's teams must compete in. The AFC MA rankings on November 2016 will be used to determine the allocations for 2017 club competitions. The Philippines has risen a lot in the standings(last ranking used was on November 2014 for both the 2015 and 2016 competitions www.the-afc.com/uploads/afc/files/rankings/afc_ma_rankings_03_11_2014.pdf ), enough to gain a AFC Champions league preliminary round spot if we used the April MA rankings. As you can see from the table in this link, our club point rankings are still low because we have only been in the AFC Cup the past 2 years and have only had success this year(MA rankings take into considerations the results of the past 4 years), but our national team points based on FIFA matches within the past 4 years and especially in the WC qualifiers helped boost our rankings a lot higher. www.football-rankings.info/2016/04/afc-ma-ranking-update-29-april-2016.html#more

Mid-Year Musings on Philippine Football The first half of the year has come and gone with plenty of talking points surrounding Philippine Football. The Perfect Pass attempts to discuss these points in the hope of making some sense of them. AFC Champions League Playoff Slot With Ceres-La Salle and Kaya FC going deep into the AFC Cup, it only meant that our Member Association (MA) rankings would rise as well. Ceres and Kaya earned 15 and 13 points respectively from their AFC Cup campaign. The points are a sum of Group Stage points plus 3 points for every level they reach past the group stage. The average points of the two clubs divided by three would be the actual AFC Champions League club points earned by the PFF (the UFL’s MA) for the year. Global earned 5 points last year which leads to 1.67 points for 2015 plus Ceres & Kaya’s average of 14 would add another 4.67 points for 2016. Points earned for the last four years are added up and are compared to the highest MA (who gets full 70 club points). The MA will get points in proportion to MA 1’s points and these are added to National team points (the other 30 points) based from FIFA Rankings points. As of June 3, the Philippines has earned 20.19 points which makes it the 11th of 12 (East) countries who can join the AFC Champions league next year. Automatically, this slot will be given to the league champions which makes the UFL title race even more interesting. A big stumbling block however are the Club licensing regulations, which is a different animal altogether. football.com.ph/mid-year-musings-philippine-football/

Are the people in PFF aware of this? I mean this is something the stakeholders should look into. Everything domestic games, either PBA, boxing, football fans turnout are small but when it comes to internation competition, people and fans come in thousand. This is an opportunity for the pinot football community.

As of April, Ceres and Global are ranked 91st and 95th respectively in the AFC Club Ranking. Kaya is 111th. I know this has no importance on AFC Cup allocation whatsoever but sometimes invitational competitions seed clubs. (globalfootballranks.com)
The AFC MA Ranking is released on Saturday and Philippines ranks 22nd (+1) and has leapt over Indonesia (23rd) with only Thailand (10th), Malaysia (13th), and Vietnam (14th) above us in the ASEAN Zone. The ranking determines the association allocations in the AFC Cup and the Champions League. In the ASEAN Zone of AFC Cup, Rank 1 to 3 are given two slots in the group stage with one (higher) club competing in the Preliminary Rounds of the AFC Champions League. If the club qualifies for the ACL, a standby team will get the former's slot in the AFC Cup. Notice that that's what Global had to go through this year (an opportunity given to the Philippines due to Indonesia's non-filing of entrants). We're now ranked 3rd in the ASEAN Zone (Thailand is in the ACL already). If we maintain or improve the rankings, we'll have another opportunity to increase the number of our entrants to three clubs in total.

Acc. to this latest rankings, Philippines is currently in 9th place in the East Region which entitles us to one playoff spot(taken by Ceres) in the AFC Champions League. We need to rise to 6th place in the East Region to get one direct spot in the group stages and one playoff spot in future editions of the AFC Champions League which is plausible in the near future as long as we do well in the AFC Cup and maintain our national team rankings, since our low club ratings in 2015 will be dropped next year(only most recent 4 year ratings are taken into account).
India also has the potential(even better than the Philippines) to rise to 6th spot in the near future (assuming they do well in the AFC Cup) if the 2015 ratings are dropped.

Philippine already surpassing hongkong on ma rank and with ceres-negros who almost get through to knock out phase in afc cup they have a big chance to collect more points. And in 2020 they can send their teams to acl 2020, based on their performance in the last 4 years bcs from 2016 until now their points (16.537) higher than malaysia (14.195) - Sadewa Teja Permana FB post at Asean Football Community. with this new MA Ranking, can we send 1 team to ACL in 2020 and another play-off team?

Wow. I think it's highly possible given the lull in the performance of our SEA neighbors' (and Australia's) representative clubs. Also, a number of Middle East MAs are dropping points now. But in order to maintain it, PFL will have to improve its management. The ACL has stricter criteria in giving slots to MAs like the quality of the stadia, league management, licensing, number of teams (1/3 number of teams-ratio maximum slots per MA), etc.

AFC Country Rankings: Philippines continue their rise; Vietnam overtake Australia again Philippines have continued their rise in the AFC Club Competitions Ranking climbing to 12th place in the latest calculations following a big win for their champion club Ceres-Negros FC in AFC Cup 2020. Philippines had climbed to 13th from 14 in the rankings update during the last week of February 2020 and have now leapt over Tajikistan to claim the 12th rank in Asia, according to FootyRankings. Their point gain comes mainly from Ceres-Negros’ 4-0 win over Indonesian champions Bali United in the group stages of AFC Cup earlier this week. Kaya FC-Iloilo, the other Filipino club in the competition, had meanwhile held PSM Makassar to a 1-1 draw. Meanwhile, Vietnam and Australia continued their battle for a upper hand in the rankings table and this week, it is the Southeast Asians who come out on top climbing to 15th place displacing the Aussies. Thailand are still No.1 from ASEAN in the AFC Club Competitions Ranking coming in at seventh. Singapore are 18th while Malaysia are 19th. www.foxsports.com.my/football/asian-football/152451/afc-country-rankings-philippines-continue-their-rise-vietnam-overtake-australia-again/I am surprised we are ahead of the Australians, but then again they compete at the AFC Champion's Cup level and they don't do as well there as we do in the AFC Cup in recent times. The rankings are important as this could provide Philippine clubs a better tie next year when qualifiers for the AFC Champion's Cup resume.
