Global's home game will be at Rizal. "Global won’t have the luxury of time to prepare as it starts its bid against Singapore side Tampines Rovers on Jan. 24 at Rizal Memorial Stadium. The winner of the clash will travel to Australia for a Jan. 31 knockout match with A-League side Brisbane Roar. Chinese giants Shanghai Shenhua await the survivor of the game in Brisbane on Feb. 7 with the winner moving on to the main draw of the Champions League." Read more: sports.inquirer.net/232399/three-ph-clubs-asian-tilt-next-year#ixzz4SqCO3l8wOh oh oh, this means the Rizal Memorial is still alive by then? And not yet demolished? Yahoooooo! I hope so. Mayor Estrada doesn't seem to understand legacy, the advantage of providing green spaces in a crowded city or sport facilities for its residents. While many Mayors in the provinces are interested in building sports complexes for their residents and as a way to attract tourists, all he seems to care about is to add more malls.

The PFL (new version of the UFL) still needs to "kumain ng bigas" to compete with the rest of Asia. Although, 1 elimination game, away from home is far from being ideal.

Brisbane was in midseaason while Global FC only got together 10 days ago after a long preseason. I expected a loss either way, but the inflated score was a result of a preseason team playing away against a team in midseason form.

I guess this could be a valid excuse, but some purist will say that this gives Global an "area of opportunity to discover the strength and weakness" of the other team. There should be a good amount of game videos of the team's performance during this season for them to strategize both defense and offense against this team. At least not to give away 6 goals. They had 6 days to watch those videos. They could also "park the bus" formation 5 5 to get a 0-0 score at FT/OT, then try to win it at PK where anything goes.

Let's just admit that Brisbane (and Australian football in general) is way too strong for a Philippine side like Global. The Brisbane squad is an interesting combination of old (I mean, players in their 30s and are past their prime) and young players (ranging from 18 to 24 yo) who were promoted from the grassroots. Brisbane has no player from the 25 to 31 age bracket (except for Socceroo and ex-Ipswich player Tommy Oar). Global defense let in four goals from an uncapped 21 year-old Socceroo. While they did not underestimate Global, they rested their no. 1 GK and removed Oar in their squadlist (injured, maybe?). Urawa Reds even struggles against this team. But this is the best thing about playing against teams from Australia, Japan, and Korea, you get to measure how better they are. It was good that the Japanese coach of Global insisted on attacking because he knows his team has lots to learn and improve on to measure up against teams like Brisbane, or even Shanghai Shenhua. Unlike what Tampines Rovers thought postgame that the game against Global is nothing because even if Tampines won over Global and miraculously get past Brisbane, they'll be up against Tevez-led Shanghai S and they would definitely lose. It's an immature attitude. The good thing is that a lesser known team like Global gets the opportunity to play against high-calibre teams. It's the experience that counts.

I'm sorry, but you do not go in a Champions League qualifier for training and experience gathering. You go in to win and advance. This opportunity may not happen again in 10 yrs. Any experience gained will come and go with the players, who could go away next year. For training, schedule some friendlies.

As long as the Philippines' MA Ranking is in the Top 20 of the confederation, any Philippine team has the chance to be in the Champions League and I think Global would be in the same stage again within the next three years. The S-League isn't doing great these past few years while Myanmar league is getting stronger. All the Philippine football has to do is to up its quality. While "I'm sorry, but you do not go in a Champions League qualifier for training and experience gathering" is true, you're not saying Global can win the title, right? Global sure trained less because of maybe, time constraints (and a lot of other reasons) and they sure would want to win last night. Who wouldn't want to win and advance?

We all know that Global cannot win the title. The goal is to make it to the group stage of the AFC Champions League, and allow Loyola Sparks to be in the AFC Cup. Having 3 teams in the AFC tournaments could have been a great accomplishment for the UFL(PFL).
