Overseas PH footballers matchweek roundup: Etheridge shines, Mark Hartmann scores in losing effort
The last weekend of February fixtures was mainly a forgettable one for many of the current Azkals players and prospects who are based overseas, with only Neil Etheridge and Iain Ramsay notching wins for their teams.
But on individual performances, Mark Hartmann was able to notch a goal for Ubon UMT on a losing effort, while Michael Falkesgaard earned his side, Bangkok United, a draw.
Here are the results of the rest of the fixtures abroad involving Filipino players:
Mark Hartmann (Ubon UMT – Thai League 1)
Nakhonratchasima Mazda FC 3 – 1 Ubon UMT – 25 February 2000PHT
Former Azkals striker Mark Hartmann was the lone scorer for his visiting side Ubon UMT with an early goal in the 17th minute.
However, his effort eventually proved to be not enough as hosts Nakhonratchasima Mazda completed a comprehensive comeback for a flattering 3 -1 result.
Michael Falkesgaard (Bangkok United – Thai League 1)
Bangkok United 2 – 2 Suphanburi FC – 25 February 1900PHT
Azkals goalkeeping prospect Michael Falkesgaard managed a draw for his team Bangkok United with a 2-2 draw against Suphanburi.
Hikaru Minegishi (Pattaya United – Thai League 1)
PT Prachuap 2 – 0 Pattaya United – 24 February 2000PHT
Pattaya United lost to hosts PT Prachuap. Hikaru Minegishi was an unused substitute.
The Azkals midfielder though is still hopeful of cracking into the starting lineup for the next fixture.
Misagh Bahadoran (Perak FA – Liga Super Malaysia)
Kelantan FA 3 – 2 Perak FA – 24 February 2100PHT
It can be considered as a sorry night for Misagh Bahadoran’s Perak FA squad as the Bos Gaurus twice relinquished their lead, eventually succumbing to a late 88th minute goal by the home team Kelantan for a monumental win for the home side.
Iain Ramsay (Felda United – Liga Premier Malaysia)
JDT II 1 – 4 Felda United – 26 February 2100PHT
Felda United continued their perfect start to the season as they notched their fourth win in a dominant performance that put them in command of the Liga Premier Malaysia which gives an early indication of their immediate push for promotion back to the top flight.
Azkals winger Iain Ramsay was instrumental in the first goal as he laid off an assist to Gilberto Fortunato who was able to ensure the goal off a rebound after the initial strike was blocked by the JDT II keeper.
Daisuke Sato (Sepsi – Romania Liga 1)
FCSB 2 – 0 Sepsi – 26 February 0245PHT
Azkal fullback Daisuke Sato’s Sepsi suffered another setback after falling against Romanian giants Steaua Bucuresti on snowy conditions in Bucharest
Sepsi currently sits in a precarious relegation zone spot as they now go nearer to the “play-out” phase to avoid relegation to the Liga II.
Neil Etheridge (Cardiff City – EFL Championship)
Cardiff City 1 – 0 Bristol City – 25 February 2000PHT
The national team’s main goalkeeper, Neil Etheridge, continued to be a significant factor in the Bluebirds’ win at home against Bristol City by notching his fourth straight game of not conceding a goal.
With the result also being their fourth straight win, Cardiff City further strengthens their position on the second spot of the EFL Sky Bet Championship which, if maintained, would give them direct promotion to the Premier League.
