17 January 2018 PFF Advisory: Philippines Vs Tajikistan To Be Held At The Rizal Memorial Football Stadium 13 mins ago The Philippine Men’s National Team will host Tajikistan in the final match of the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 Qualifiers on 27 March 2018 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila. The Philippine Football Federation (PFF) formally received the confirmation from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on the venue. The Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental was earlier nominated to host the final Group F home match between the Philippines and Tajikistan. However, due to difficulties in securing fully-equipped training venues, the venue was moved to the Rizal Memorial Stadium. “We announce that the AFC has approved the PFF’s request to move the final match of the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers back to Manila,” said PFF president Mariano V. Araneta Jr. “This match will be a crucial match as it will decide the Philippine Men’s National Team’s chances of qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup.” The last Asian Cup Qualifiers match played in home soil was the 2-2 draw against Yemen last 5 September 2017 at the Pana-ad Park and Football Stadium. The Philippines won their first match match of the Asian Cup Qualifiers in Manila with a 4-1 win against Nepal. The Philippines lead Group F with 9 points while Tajikistan are in third with 7 points going to the final match of the qualifiers. The Philippines only needs a draw to qualify for the Asian Cup, but it will have to do so against a determined Tajikistan squad. “We hope all football stakeholders and supporters rally behind the Men’s National Team,” added Araneta. “Qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 will be a historic moment in Philippine football.” pff.org.ph/2018/01/17/pff-advisory-philippines-vs-tajikistan-held-rizal-memorial-football-stadium/

18 March 2018 Azkals begin buildup for biggest match yet By: Cedelf P. Tupas With players returning from injuries and foreign-based recruits all making themselves available, the Philippine Azkals buckled down to work on Saturday in preparation for their most important match yet. The Azkals face Tajikistan on March 27 in their final game of AFC Asian Cup Qualifying at Rizal Memorial Stadium with the Filipinos needing a draw to punch their ticket to the continental showpiece event next year in the United Arab Emirates. Azkals captain Phil Younghusband said the return of the likes of Manny Ott and Javier Patino from injury should come as a huge boost for the side that drew its last three matches. “It gives us confidence knowing we have players who could have made a difference in the past three games back for this game,” said Younghusband. “We all missed Patino and Manny in the previous games. Patrick (Reichelt) is also back.” Only the local-based Azkals joined training at McKinley Hill Stadium last Saturday with the rest of the foreign-based players like Neil Etheridge, Daisuke Sato, Iain Ramsay, Pika Minegishi, Misagh Bahadoran and new recruit Michael Falkesgaard linking up with the team next week. Etheridge will still play for Cardiff City in the English Championship this weekend. Cardiff is currently in a strong position to gain promotion to the English Premier League with Etheridge among its key players. The Azkals clash with Fiji in a friendly on Thursday also at Rizal Memorial Stadium as Dooley tries to whip his squad into shape for the crucial duel with the Tajiks five days later. Tajikistan will qualify with a victory over the Azkals, whose fate will now depend on the result of the Yemen-Nepal match. A win by both Tajikistan and Yemen will eliminate the Azkals. Younghusband acknowledged the importance of the match for the sport in the country. “As it (match) gets closer, I can feel the pressure a bit more with the situation of Philippine football right now,” said Younghusband. “I think we need another milestone, another achievement, another success for football to grow again and this match (against) Tajikistan gives us that chance.” Read more: sports.inquirer.net/289215/azkals-begin-buildup-biggest-match-yet#ixzz5A5uFGeBd

Manila: The Philippines will be at full strength for the crucial AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 qualifying match against Tajikistan as players based abroad will add power to the Azkals squad. Team manager Dan Palami is delighted that the overseas-based players have answered his call for them to support the bid to qualify for the final stage of the AFC Asian Cup for the first time. Among those reporting for training this week ahead of the Tajikistan match on March 27 include goalkeeper Neil Etheridge, who plays for Welsh club Cardiff City, and Malaysian-based players Ian Ramsay and Misagh Bahadoran. “We should be proud of our national team players who are doing well internationally in their various clubs,” said Palami. The Azkals lead Group F of the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifiers on nine points and need only a draw against Tajikistan to confirm their place among the Continent's elite for next January's blockbuster in the United Arab Emirates. The could have sealed their berth on Matchday Five last November but were held 0-0 by Nepal. However, with the Tajikistan match being played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, Philippines will be confident of getting the job done and taking their place in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 draw on May 4. Palami said the Tajikistan game is an important match for Philippines. “The cards are not exactly stacked against us. We are currently on top of the table of Group F with nine points,” added Palami. World No 122 Philippines will prepare for Tajikistan - who are just two rungs below them in the FIFA World Rankings - with a friendly against Fiji, also to be played at the Rizal Memorial Stadium, on Thursday. The Azkals won the corresponding fixture against Tajikistan, with the tie ending 4-3 in favour of the Philippines at the Republican Central Stadium, Dushanbe on June 13, 2017. www.the-afc.com/competitions/afc-asian-cup/latest/news/foreign-stars-add-power-for-azkals-final-push

The Flying Winger's take on the upcoming match: Philippines vs Tajikistan: Match Preview Come kick-off at 7:30pm tomorrow night, March 27, few things will be certain. The result will still be unknown. None of the teams in Group F are guaranteed progression to the Asian Cup. There are still three competitors for the two qualification slots, with several different permutations. The Philippines does know one thing, though: Our fate is still under our control. We top the group with 9 points. Yemen and Tajikistan are tied on seven points, in second and third respectively, since Yemen has a superior head-to-head record over the latter. A win or a draw takes the Azkals to the Asian Cup for the first time. However, our place in the United Arab Emirates next year is by no means guaranteed. Tajikistan are fighting to win in Manila, which would be the only way they would qualify, while Yemen play a mathematically-disqualified Nepal in Doha forty-five minutes after our game kicks off, where a win would bring them to the UAE. A possibility still exists that the Philippines would still miss out. If Tajikistan and Yemen both win tomorrow, then we would drop down to third in the group, despite being top at the start of the day. So it all comes down to matchday six, the final round of games. Finally we made it. It has been a long road for some of the players and it was amazing to see how emotional some of them were during the interviews. Neil Etheridge was tearing up. He practically grew up with this team since he was a teenager. He will most likely be in the English Premiership next year and the spotlight from England will be on him in the Asian Cup.

Him and the Younghusbands are very instrumental to this. I kinda miss the guys like JdJ and Rob Gier but pretty sure they're celebrating with us. The game was also far from the best that we played. But it's a win, and we're going to the Asian Cup with it!
