The Copa Paulino Alcantara, also known as the PFL Cup, will be an annual association football tournament in Philippines. The cup will first be held in September 2018. It replaced the PFF National Men's Club Championship and the UFL Cup as the country's top domestic cup tournament.
The PFL Cup is set to begin on September 1, the winner of the cup will book a ticket for the AFC Cup.
If Ceres Negros wins the league, and the cup automatically the second placer of the league will get the spot for AFC Cup.
Kaya FC emerged as the inaugural Copa Paulino Alcantara champion over Davao Aguilas FC, 1-0 (AET), on Saturday, October 27 at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium for a sure spot in the 2019 AFC Cup.
Jovin Bedic ended the sloppy game at the last minute of extra time (119') after firing the cross of Robert Mendy into the back of the net.
“What a final,” exclaimed Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida.
“What makes it special for this [final] – aside from we wanted to go to back AFC – is we were able to give honor to the legendary Paulino Alcantara [who] is from Concepcion, Iloilo and as [the] representative of Iloilo, this Cup really matters for us.”
Davao Aguilas FC will only advance to the regional cup tournament if Ceres-Negros FC qualifies for the 2019 AFC Champions League. ___
By winning the inaugural Copa Paulino Alcantara, Kaya FC will join Negros FC in the 2019 AFC Cup.
Another heartbreaker for Davao Aguilas FC(the losing finalist) as they lost making the 2019 AFC Cup automatically in extra time 0-1.

Hoping that Ceres would advance to ACL tournament proper so that DABFC could finally enter the AFC Cup. Bellmare missed the opportunity for a League Cup double last night. Davao just sat back in the extra-time probably exhausted. Props to Kaya FC who were relentless, playing better football until the final whistle.
Kaya FC Iloilo are set to return in the AFC Cup after two years of absence through their dramatic triumph in the Copa Paulino Alcantara final after Jovin Bedic scored a late 118th minute winner in the second half of extra time.
The win completes the Philippines’ representatives for the AFC club tournaments for 2019 with the other club being Ceres-Negros FC who are about to embark on the 2019 AFC Champions League playoffs after winning the Philippines Football League.
Davao Aguilas and Kaya Iloilo toiled in a final that saw few chances, with both teams being denied by the crossbar on at least two occasions.
The tipping point most probably have been the sending off of Davao Aguilas centre-back Wesley Dos Santos in the 98th minute due to a second bookable offence.
In the end, Kaya got the sole goal of the match two minutes before the end of the second half of extra time when Jovin Bedic, who hailed from Iloilo (Barotac Nuevo), converted off a Robert Lopez Mendy assist.
The match could have gone either way with both teams unrelenting, but a clinical moment is what all it took for the winners to be determined.
Final whistle has blown congratulations KAYA Futbol Club for winning the first ever Copa Paulino Alcantara! Welcome back to AFC Cup! #KeepTheLegacy #WeArePFL pic.twitter.com/rfxzXiqui9

Phil Younghusband would have to wait for another shot at AFC club qualification
It is a fact that the Azkals’ all-time top goalscorer, Phil Younghusband has not yet been able to represent the Philippines at an AFC club competition.
But after another agonising loss, Phil would have to wait another year and hope for a good run either in the PFL season or the league cup.
Kaya’s fighting spirit showcased
Kaya FC Copa Paulino Alcantara
Kaya came into the match as slight underdogs, but they were able to rise to the occasion, going toe to toe against Davao Aguilas until local hero, Jovin Bedic, scored the winning goal.
It’s just sinking in. Kaya FC wins first ever Paulino Alcantara Cup. Cup named after Iloilo born striker of FC Barcelona fame. Winning goal in the 118 min by Ilongo born Jovin Bedic. Destiny. UNA KAYA!

The result makes the Iloilo-based squad as the first ever Copa Paulino Alcantara Champions and they will be marching to the 2019 AFC Cup.
Pissed: Kahit gustuhin natin makabuo ng team, hindi pa pwede for now dahil sa UAAP season. Surely Gayoso will join the selection, pero ang ibang UAAP players need to be cleared. Hopefully the NCAA based players are ready. Passports is another issue.

truman: Unpopular opinion: Global FC should just stick with youth football. Build up your club again (and also reputation) dont force yourselves to join the league.

BoyBacolod: I am amused at the current spat of Ceres and Kaya fans, though I say Kaya fans had it coming. It also an example of a trait lacking in government, that thing called "foresight".

BoyBacolod: The Iloilo Provincial government need to get their act together. Now the Neg. Occ. government is at full support of football, especially the vice-governor, who was mayor of San Carlos, another football hotbed, who might be governor in July.

BoyBacolod: Sa mga Kaya fans na nagsasabing baka one game lang sa Panaad, basa sa AFC Cup 2019 Regulations, section 16.2.

BoyBacolod: With the Visayas making a name for itself in football,it really puts a dent on 'Imperial Manila' basketball mentality. Better football facilities, and the Visayan cities can make a name for themselves internationally.

BoyBacolod: NCR had for so long relied on Palaro players from provinces to boost their lineups. It is high time that VISAYAS should own football. In Negros I think it will a step closer since the vice-governor running for the top post is a football supporter.

truman: keep ting on basketball, mate. accept it, we can't cope up with its popularity. Dont hate on the sport. Blame PFF for not marketing the sport well enough. Now that the Philippines is in the FIBA World Cup, it would be a loooot harder for ustogainsupport

BoyBacolod: If some UAAP or NCAA schools will join the new league in one form or another, it may remove the gap between U22s and seniors. The schools can devise a system akin to sports academies, education is important after all.

BoyBacolod: Will the PFL be like the San Marino league system, where there are no so-called "home" stadiums.
Mar 2, 2019 12:39:19 GMT 8
leoisiah: Gibraltar also has a single stadium for their league.

BoyBacolod: Rules are rules are rules. The two clubs should have known better. They are given loads of time to act on it. And to those who say PFF sucks, sometimes they do but one thing they are consistent is sticking to the rules.
