the decision to use gayoso as a defender is baffling. sayang, he can potentially score sana for the team. true. that was a head scratcher especially since grierson can be at the back too. his scoring wizardry could have opened up a few avenues early on. according to coach nierras's comment on PFL fans united FB page, gayoso played the LWB role. he said the coach wants everyone attacking and defending.

Myanmar 2-1 Philippines Justin Baas scored for the Philippines www.spin.ph/multisport/sea-games/ph-azkals-sent-crashing-in-sea-games-by-myanmar-sub-s-late-goal-a2522-20191127?ref=home_feed_1THE Philippine Under-22 team absorbed its first defeat in the 30th Southeast Asian Games men's football competition, 2-1, at the hands of Myanmar on Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Win Naing Tun came off the bench and delivered the game-winner for the Burmese, outsmarting defender Amani Aguinaldo and goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus in the 79th minute. Unlike in an opening draw with Cambodia on Monday, the Azkals failed to score a match-saving goal as captain Stephan Schrock’s free kick in the 91st minute went straight to goalkeeper Sann Sat Naing. Myanmar, now on top of Group A with four points on a win and a draw with Malaysia, drew first blood when Aung Kaung Mann found the back of the net in the 16th minute. The hosts, however, were quick to respond as Justin Baas struck just before halftime off a good pass from Dennis Chung that came Yrick Gallantes’s corner kick. Philippines had several chances to take the lead early in the second half with Chima Uzoka coming closest, only to be called for offside. Baas also had an opportunity for a second goal but his attempt in the 61’ went off the mark.

FT Philippines U23 1-0 Malaysia U23 Schrock 72' Attendance at Rizal Memorial Stadium: 6,500 STEPHAN Schrock kept the Philippine Under-22 football team in the hunt for a semifinal berth as he delivered a wonder goal that stunned Malaysia, 1-0, in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Friday at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Schrock struck in the 72nd minute as his corner kick bounced off Malaysian 'keeper Muhammad Haziq Nadzli’s hands and turned into the only goal of the match, which was enough to upset the reigning Games runner-up. The Young Azkals put up great defense from there led by goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus and defender Amani Aguinaldo, to preserve the lead until the final whistle before a roaring crowd of 6,500, mostly home fans. By bouncing back from a heartbreaking 1-2 loss to Myanmar last Wednesday, the Philippines kept its semifinal hopes alive by moving to joint second place in Pool A with four points, now tied with idle Cambodia. “We’re very happy. We put ourselves in a situation where we can advance (to the semifinals),” Schrock told the reporters after the big win. “That was the goal and we’re very proud of the result.” Myanmar clinched one of the two semifinal berth in Group A after a 3-1 victory over Timor Leste for its seventh point earlier in the day. The Philippines’ semifinals chances depends on its last group stage match against winless Timor Leste on December 4 at the Binan Football Stadium as well as the remaining games of Malaysia and Cambodia. www.spin.ph/multisport/sea-games/stephan-schrock-saves-day-as-ph-azkals-stun-malaysia-to-keep-semis-hopes-alive-a2522-20191129?ref=home_hybrid_1

The Philippine Under-22 Men’s Football National Team find themselves in yet another must-win matchup, this time against Timor Leste in their final 2019 Southeast Asian Games Men’s Football group stage fixture, Wednesday afternoon at the Biñan Stadium in Biñan, Laguna. Kick-off time is at 4:00 PM. After a draw and a loss in their first two matches in Group A action, the U-22 Azkals were able to put themselves in a position to contend for a spot in the semifinals after scoring a pivotal victory against Malaysia last November 29th. The 1-0 win courtesy of a Stephan Schrock corner helped the Azkals climb up to four points in three matches, at level with fellow Group A contenders Cambodia and Malaysia, who are also set to face off Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila. To strengthen their case for a spot in the Final Four, the Pinoy side will need to win and win big, against an already-eliminated Timor Leste side that has yet to earn a point in the SEA Games tournament. The U-22 Azkals’ path to a semis berth won’t be as simple as just getting a win over Timor Leste however, as they will need some things that are out of their hands to go their way. The best case scenario for the U-22 Azkals will be if they beat Timor Leste, and Cambodia and Malaysia battle to a draw. This outcome will have the Azkals finishing with 7 points and in second place in Group A to earn a spot in the semis. Cambodia and Malaysia would finish with 5 points each. Should either Cambodia or Malaysia win, the Philippines will need to win by a wide margin to make up for the goal difference and qualify for the semis. As it stands, Cambodia is ahead in goal difference with a +4, while Malaysia is right behind with a +3. The Philippines sits at an even 0. sports.abs-cbn.com/seagames/news/2019/12/04/sea-games-2019-azkals-meet-timor-leste-must-win-match-63989

Still a very good inprovement conpared to previous years.. we just have to think about tapping uzoka again..he wasted so much chances, really a weak link and not a single goal to show considering he is supposed to be the target man.

the future is bright. I think the new players like Galantes, Baas, Suerti, and Chung will fill in the shoes of the veterans with no problem at all. Amani has definitely stepped up to be a leader. I wish this overflows into the senior team when he gets his playing time. Everytime they sub him in in a senior match back then, I get really worried. He tends to be too aggressive sometimes and gives away the ball during a foul on set pieces. hopefully he continues his form into the new year.

I agree. I like the improvement and preparation they have made for this tournament even fielding the team in the Copa Alcantara Cup. We don't expect miracles from our youth teams. Without a youth developmental pro league and academy system like other countries have, we will always be at a disadvantage. But we do expect our youth teams to have proper preparation before a tournament to help make them competitive.
