Both PSSI and KPSI seem to be deliberately taunting FIFA with their obtuseness and intransigence - perhaps hoping to call FIFA's bluff?
If FIFA does nothing in the face of bare-faced insolence and childish squabbling from both of Indonesia's ruling football bodies, no-one will ever take them seriously again.
My two cents.

This FIFA suspension has been a long time coming. I have been advocating this for some time now in this thread and elsewhere and FIFA did not have the guts to pull the trigger in the past despite the fact that they wielded this hammer against smaller teams like Brunei quite easily. Part of the blame definitely lies with FIFA. Mendieta's death and the failure of the 2 leagues and organizations to abide by the MOU, was the final straw.

‘Buying star players will retard development’ 12th December, 2012 KUALA LUMPUR: The buying power of rich football clubs to get star players would not help the development of football, said Union of European Football Association (UEFA) president Michel Platini. Instead, the former French international said, such practice by some football clubs owned by wealthy people could be more disastrous for football development at the grassroots level. “The ability to attract big names to a few clubs will certainly boost the image and also the name of the clubs (to clinch success), but there are no new talents to be scouted if the clubs pay more attention to this rather than developing their own players.” Platini said this after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and UEFA at AFC House in Bukit Jalil, here, yesterday. AFC was represented by its acting president Zhang Jilong while Platini himself put the pen on the agreement for UEFA, aimed at promoting cooperation and friendly relations between the two confederations. Platini, the three-time World’s Best Player, said the responsibility to unearth new talents should come from the club itself. On the MoU, Platini said he was delighted to sign the new partnership with another football confederation. “UEFA is delighted to be building stronger relationships with other continental confederations. In this case it’s the AFC, as it allows all of us to share know-how and experience with regard to matters such as coaches’ education and grassroots football. “Solidarity is a key value in football and it is therefore important that it is also shown between confederations,” he added. For Zhang, the signing of the MoU was another milestone in the history of Asian football as the AFC entered into a new partnership with UEFA. “They have set the standard in world football and we are happy to share their knowledge to develop the standard in Asian football,” he said and thanked UEFA and Platini for their wholehearted support for AFC and its affiliates. He was also confident that all AFC affiliates would benefit from the cooperation, thus giving a bright future for Asian football. Through the MoU, UEFA will provide assistance to AFC and its affiliates in establishing and implementing projects and activities related to education, training, technical development, refereeing, and promotion of grassroots and youth football. It also encompasses organising of competitions, marketing, legal matters and social responsibility, apart from promoting good governance principles in the game. www.newsabahtimes.com.my/nstweb/fullstory/64492

AFC: A big loss if Indonesia is suspended By FARAH AZHARIE Alex Soosay LOSING Indonesia to suspension would be akin to losing a family member, Asian Football Confederation (AFC) general secretary Datuk Alex Soosay said. He said this in relation to the state of Indonesian football now with two rival organisations – Indonesian Soccer Assocation (PSSI) and Indonesian Soccer Rescue Committee (KPSI) – under fire as they failed to resolved their issues before the Dec 10 deadline. “We want to help because they (Indonesia) have tremendous potential and we’re talking about 200 million people in Indonesia and you won’t go wrong there,” said Soosay. “We want to make sure their football is well-organised to avoid conflict and we are trying our best, still trying, to save it and would much prefer that no one is suspended.” Back in June, FIFA ordered the two organisations to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Kuala Lumpur. However, it was short-lived as the MoU was annulled the following month. “It is very disappointing that the MoU was nullified because it was the only one to unite Indonesia to put it under one umbrella,” said Soosay. Under the MoU, FIFA and AFC recognise PSSI as the official Indonesian soccer body. There are three main issues which need to be resolved, including the reinstatement of four expelled executive committee members, a statute revision and the establishment of only one professional league. There is also the issue of players’ salary, the non-payment of which allegedly led to the untimely death of 32-year-old Paraguayan striker Diego Mendieta. Mendieta died on Dec 4 of complications from a viral infection. He had not sought treatment as he could not afford it. He had not been paid four months’ salary totalling US$12,500 from former club Persis Solo, in the KPSI league, with PSSI refusing to help cover the debt as it did not recognise KPSI as a league. Fans had raised US$300 for his treatment but is was not enough. As both bodies failed to come to a conclusion on Monday, FIFA will now decide on the sanctions at an executive committee meeting to be held in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday. www.sports247.my/2012/12/afc-a-big-loss-if-indonesia-is-suspended/

FIFA Extends Deadline for PSSI, KPSI Dispute ResolutionDecember 14, 2012 World football governing body FIFA has extended the deadline for two Indonesian football organizations to settle their differences, from Dec. 10 to March 30. The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) said FIFA had leveled no sanctions related to PSSI’s failure to reconcile with its rival, the Indonesian Football Savior Committee (KPSI). “We’re still waiting for the official letter. But from what I’ve heard, it’s obvious there is no sanction,” Bob Hippy, a member of PSSI’s Executive Committee, told Indonesian news portal antaranews.com on Friday. FIFA earlier gave the PSSI and KPSI a Dec. 10 deadline to settle long-running disputes that have marred Indonesia's domestic and international football programs. KPSI was formed as a breakaway league organizer of the official PSSI after four members of the PSSI Executive Committee, namely La Nyalla Mattalitti, Roberto Rouw, Erwin Dwi Budiawan and Tony Apriliani, were expelled. KPSI then began organizing the Indonesian Super League, a rival to the officially sanctioned Indonesian Premier League run by the PSSI. In June, the two rival organizations signed a memorandum of understanding, in which they agreed to settle their disputes by Dec. 10. The MoU states that four expelled members of the PSSI Executive Committee will be reinstated, the Indonesian Super League will come under PSSI jurisdiction, the KPSI will be dissolved after the next PSSI congress and a PSSI Joint Committee will be established. But PSSI recently asked for a one-month extension of the deadline, following Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Andi Mallarangeng’s resignation on Dec. 7 after he was named a suspect in a high-profile graft case. PSSI secretary-general Halim Mahfudz said PSSI welcomed FIFA’s decision to extend the deadline until March 30, when FIFA is set hold an Executive Committee meeting that will discuss the PSSI-KPSI rivalry, among other things. “Thanks to the people of Indonesia, due to their prayers, today Indonesia does not receive any sanction from FIFA,” Halim said. FIFA earlier threatened to prohibit Indonesia from participating in international football events if the rival organizations failed to meet the Dec. 10 reconciliation deadline. www.thejakartaglobe.com/home/fifa-extends-deadline-for-pssi-kpsi-dispute-resolution/561743

Vietnamese football players in the time of crisisVietNamNet Bridge - Once they were rich and lived beyond their means, now many Vietnamese football players are falling into tragic scenes. Some are in debt and have to sell their expensive cars. Economic crisis has terribly affected the lives of Vietnamese football. A lot of football investors withdrew, leaving football teams without money and in danger of dissolution. In this context, players are not paid and they face the risk of unemployment. The risk of unemployment has become a reality. Even the top star like Cong Vinh cannot find a new club right now, after his Hanoi FC was disbanded, because no team can afford the transfer fee of over ten billion dong at this moment. In addition, this striker had a very disappointing performance in the AFF Cup 2012. But Cong Vinh is not afraid if he is unemployed. This striker planned to go to college and he currently runs his own business. Cong Vinh is among “wise” players who are provident for the future. These players have their own business besides playing football. Thanh Luong, a member of the national team and Hanoi FC, owns a large café in Hanoi. If he becomes jobless, he can still support his family. Many other players also open boutiques, restaurants, small football grounds or even do the real estate business. However, not everyone among football players is capable of doing business. Most of them just rely on income from football. Now, when they are not paid or cut down, they immediately fall into economic difficulties. It is a surprise that a member of the national team like Quang Hai had to sell his car after returning home from the AFF Cup to get money to support the family. Quang Hai's wife just delivered a baby. Previously, Quang Hai had lamented being heavily indebted to his teammates because his Navibank Saigon FC could not pay his salary in time. The situation is even more tragic when the team was disbanded. Hai was transferred to Saigon Xuan Thanh FC but the fate of this club is also dim after its boss stated to leave the team. Though Hai is not a playboy like many other players, but his hobby – fighting – is very expensive. Not only Quang Hai, the stars in Saigon Xuan Thanh, for example, Tai Em, is also at risk of falling into unemployment. Tai Em is still waiting to see the fate of the team after boss Nguyen Duc Thuy withdrew. In Nghe An, after receiving VND60 million ($3,000) of compensation of Song Lam Nghe An, Van Quyen still does not know what to do next. The 2013 football season is about to start, but no FC wants to buy Van Quyen. In Thanh Hoa, Leandro’s contract with Thanh Hoa FC has been liquidated. In this difficult context, football clubs have to tighten spending and one of the most effective ways is liquidating contracts with stars. In Ninh Binh, the local FC is very confused after their boss said to stop investing in football. Recently, this FC turned the green light for Nhu Thanh to look for a new team, although this players still owe the tea VND1 billion. FCs have to reduce the burden of salaries, bonuses to stay with the V-League 2013. However, when the clubs are doing everything possible to maintain the operation, many players have become unemployed. S. Indonesia Minister Threatens to Disband Two Football RivalsTuesday, 15 January 2013 14:59 JAKARTA: Indonesia's newly appointed sports minister has threatened to disband the country's two rival football factions unless a solution is found to end the rumbling row before Fifa's latest deadline, reported Reuters. Football in the southeast Asian country has been long plagued by infighting between the Indonesian Soccer Association (PSSI) and the breakaway Indonesian Soccer Rescue Committee (KPSI), with Fifa threatening to suspend them if the dispute was not resolved by Dec 10. But Indonesia somehow dodged a ban and were given a three month extension to resolve the fight for power after emergency talks involving football's world governing body and the Asian Football Confederation. Roy Suriyo, who was appointed as the country's new youth and sports minister on Tuesday, was confident of solving the bitter feud before the Ffa deadline, the Jakarta Globe said in a report. "Fifa have given us a deadline of March 16. So, we have to solve the problems by then," Suriyo told the newspaper. "I have neither interests nor attachment to the ... PSSI and KPSI. So, God willing, I will solve it." Any government interference, however, is likely to lead to an automatic ban from Fifa, with the world governing body suspending other nations for similar acts in the past. Football fans in Indonesia have become used to the struggles with one crisis routinely following another, their record 10-0 humiliation by Bahrain in a World Cup qualifier in February triggering a Fifa investigation. At one point, Indonesia had two national teams and still has two domestic leagues with players blocked from competing in the other. The team disappointingly exited at the group stage of the Southeast Asian championships in December and a ban would jeopardise their participation in the qualifying tournament for the 2015 Asian Cup which begins in February. More than half of the 52 players short listed for the Asian Cup qualifiers were yet to report to a training camp in North Sumatra as the KPSI-affiliated clubs have refused to release them, Jakarta Post reported. National team coach Nil Maizar said he would wait for the players to turn up and was yet to set a deadline with their opening qualifier against Iraq scheduled for Feb. 6. "We haven't set a deadline so far. We will talk about it within the week," Maizar told the newspaper after a training session at the University of North Sumatra's ground on Monday. www.malaysiandigest.com/sports/225342-indonesia-minister-threatens-to-disband-two-football-rivals.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

Indonesia announce Netherlands friendly in JuneNil Maizar's men will play an international friendly match in June against the Oranje to form a part in the midst of their preparation during 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers. Indonesia will play a friendly match against Netherlands on early June 2013, the country's football association (PSSI) has announced. According to the official site, the PSSI president Djohar Arifin has confirmed the match with the Oranje, and also ensured that the opponents will come with their first team players such as Robin Van Persie, Arjen Roben, Wesley Sneijder, Rafael Van der Vaart, Klaas Jaan Huntelar, and Dirk Kuyt. "This is certainly a great opportunity for our national team to play a friendly match against the opponents which have a world class quality," he told reporters. Moreover, Djohar stated that the exhibition match against Netherlands could be a good moment to improve the Merah Putih squad's Fifa ranking, though it would be a hard-task. "We must be realistic about the results against Netherlands. But to play a draw match with them is not something impossible." aseanwhistle.blogspot.com/2013/01/indonesia-announce-netherlands-friendly.html
