Since we will be facing Vietnam in our group in the Suzuki Cup, I would like to post this article that shows that the VFF are actively looking for players of Vietnamese origin in Europe just like us: 11 JULY 2012 Michal Nguyen approached by VFF Vietnamese-Czech centre back Michal Nguyen was reportedly offered to play for Vietnam national team at AFF Suzuki Cup 2012. The 22-year-old is currently playing for Czech second-tier club Banik Most and had a couple of appearances last season. Although Michal can't speak Vietnamese, he's tempted by Vietnam's offer and is in process of acquiring Vietnamese citizenship through his father's root. Another Czech-based player, Mac Hong Quan, is member of Vietnam U22 squad. Despite the team's disappointing display at AFC U22 Championship qualifiers in Myanmar, the 20-year-old midfielder showed some signs of quality. His contract with Sparta Prague B has expired earlier this month. vietfootball.blogspot.com/2012/07/michal-nguyen-approached-by-vff.htmlHere is a list of players that is listed in this website that can potentially play for Vietnam. It is quite extensive. vietfootball.blogspot.com/p/vietnamese-players-abroad.html

This is how Vietnam will prepare for Suzuki Cup
AFF SUZUKI CUP: Vietnam Target Training Camp in Japan or Slovakia[/color] July 19, 2012 HANOI (19 July 2012) – The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have identified either Japan or Slovakia as their likely destination for a training camp in preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup this November. The 2009 champions have penned in at least 10 international friendlies as they gear up for the challenge in Group A of the meet against hosts Thailand, the Philippines and the winner from the October qualifying round. Prior to their training camp abroad, the team will take on Indonesia twice – on 15 September (at home in Hanoi) and then 22 September (away in Jakarta). After the training camp, the team under chief coach Phan Thanh Hung will then take part in the annual VFF Cup which will involve teams from Iran, North Korea and Turmenistan on 24-28 October in HCM City. The team will play three more friendlies after the VFF Cup before the first game of the AFF Suzuki Cup on 24 November. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=8926

Indonesia will play Latin American countries soon.
In the meantime, the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) have arranged a game against former world champions Argentina at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. The match was initially supposed to be played this November but has been changed to accommodate Indonesia’s preparation for the AFF Suzuki Cup instead. The game against Argentina will be played on 6 February 2013. “We had already held initial talks with the FA of Argentina and they have preliminary agreed on the 6th February date. Now it is just a question of tying up the loose ends which should be completed by general secretary Tri Goestoro,” said Tommy Arief, the Media Director for PSSI. Other than Argentina, the PSSI have also arranged matches against Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Costa Rica in 2013. www.aseanfootball.org/?p=9512

Thai FA investigated, face possible disbandmentBANGKOK, Sept 14 | Fri Sep 14, 2012 4:45am EDT (Reuters) - Thailand's Football Association could be forced to disband following allegations of corruption, a government spokesperson investigating the association said on Friday. The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) is under investigation by a house corruption committee for tax-evasion and for setting up the Thai Premier League as a profit-making arm of the group, said Supachai Chaisamut, a spokesperson for a house anti-corruption committee investigating the group. Worawi Makudi, the FAT's president and a FIFA executive member since 1997, appeared before the committee on Thursday to give his explanations on financial transactions currently under investigation by the panel. "If FAT is found to have deliberately set up Thai Premier League for profit-making purposes the Thai Revenue Department will follow up the case. The FAT will then have a duty to withdraw the name of the football association, disband and set-up again," Supachai Chaisamut, spokesperson for the House committee on corruption, told Reuters. Worawi said he was in discussion with his lawyers and would respond to the allegations at a news conference next week. This is not the first time the FAT president and FIFA executive committee member has been accused of corruption. In 2011, FIFA launched a formal investigation against Worawi after he was accused of spending $860,000 in football development grants for projects on land he personally owns. Soccer's world governing body eventually cleared him of any wrong doing. In the latest accusations to hit the FAT president, Worawi and Thailand's football association are being investigated for setting up the Thai Premier League company to generate profits and authorizing Siam Sports Syndicate Pcl, a sports publishing company, to manage commercial benefits. Under Thai civil law, the FAT is barred from seeking profits. The FAT president was asked to submit documents showing the minutes of meetings held by the FAT that dealt with Thai Premier League Company, Siam Sports Syndicate and to produce balance sheets dating back five years for both companies by next week. The issue is fast dividing Thai soccer fans who have taken sides in the dispute with some claiming personal grudges and allegiances are influencing the investigation. "Some people on this committee want this to become a political issue but that is not what I want and that is not aim of this investigation," said Prompong Nopparit, vice chairman of the parliamentary anti-corruption committee. Thailand's premier league underwent a massive revamp three years ago following a marketing blitz that brought in dozens of corporate sponsors and provided revenue for clubs to invest in foreign players and coaches. At a packed news conference in Bangkok earlier this month former England manager, Sven-Goran Eriksson, was named the new technical director of Thai Premier League club BEC Tero Sasana. His appointment will be a much-needed boost to the Thai league as it struggles to make its mark against other teams in regional competitions. This is very alarming news. Like cjeagle said at the Laos-Philippines match thread, ASEAN nations have been reputed to be one of the most corrupt organizations in football. Should the Thai FA be disbanded and FIFA goes in to ban them for international football, this could lead to very bad repercussions, most especially a possible change of venue of the Bangkok-hosted group for the Suzuki Cup.

That's why MAS U-23 is strong. They need to defend their title. Why can't PFF put our U-23 in UFL? That will deepen their experience Harimau Muda To Play In Brazil?September 15, 2012 KUALA LUMPUR (15 Sept 2012) – With an aim for their third SEA Games gold in 2013 in place, the Harimau Muda squad under chief coach Ong Kim Swee has been presented with three options to prepare the squad in the next year. The team is currently playing in Singapore where after 17 matches; they are placed fourth in the 13-team S-League. But Kim Swee announced this week that they have been offered to play in Brazil as well as the opportunity to make a return to the Slovakian League as they had done previously. “We have the planning to bring the Harimau Muda squad to play abroad – either in Brazil or Slovakia. And the offer is firm where we have been asked to look at the home base, the facilities and the playing venue,” said Kim Swee. “We are not sure at which level we have been offered to play in Brazil but this is obviously the decision of the technical committee and that of the national team management. Ultimately, they will decide which team goes where while for me, I accept whatever decision is made. “I have no problem should they ask me to continue playing in the S-League. We have an agreement with the Singapore League but it is not mandatory that we must use our Harimau Muda team where we can also use the Harimau Muda B or Harimau Muda C.” www.aseanfootball.org/?p=9676
