Excellent info vwtron, you can imagine my difficulties in getting information about his current career/club as I do not speak or read Dutch! Although I have read that some were surprised that at his "older" age he finally made it to the Eredivisie? Is this true? Please come around and update us with Mulders and team situation periodically. BTW would you happen to know the whereabouts of former Veendam player Jason de Jong? Hi Wiking, if you want me to agree with you that Mulders making it to the Eredivisie at age of 30 is surprising - it is. Its very rare that one makes the jump to the highest league of football, specially at the Eredivisie, at that age but it happens and in recent memory there was another Dutch footballer who did the same. I forget his name now. It is a major feat in itself as what Mulders have done at his age, to move up to top division league as a footballer's prime years are usually from their late teens to mid-20s. Top division league clubs are more interested in younger players, as they can further develop, tweak, and fine tune their skills. It is usually harder for aging footballers to get that attention unless you have a support system backing you, again, the sport becomes subjective in that way. Having said that, Mulders from what I have observed and researched has been one of the most under-rated footballers in the Dutch Eerste Divisie for a long time and that this recent promotion to play in the Eredivisie has been a long time coming and is well deserved. His age has not slowed his play, in fact, he had to turn it up a few notches and is acclimatizing well. If anything, one of his biggest asset for ADO is his experience: superb overview, passing and positioning skills and his calm, quiet and cool temperament. Quiet but impact player. p.s. I have not seen any published news on de Jong confirming his joining FC Dordrecht. He may just be training with the team.

Thanks again vwtron! Hopefully his league will take notice of more "veteran" players. After all they might be older but one cannot discount their veteran experience. Again, do update us whenever you can and welcome to the site.

Heres a report of the ADO match against PSV this past Sunday. No need to translate, it is already written in English. Enjoy. Dutch Eredivisie: ADO Den Haag 0-3 PSV Eindhoven – Match reportPSV Eindhoven staged an impressive show to bag all three points when they thrashed ADO Den Haag at Kyocera Stadion on Sunday, August 21. Dries Mertens, Georginio Wijnaldum and Ola Toivonen scored a goal each for their side to claim an easy 3-0 win. Fred Rutten, the Boeren manager, would be pleased with his troops’ efforts on the field, as they dominated proceedings throughout the match. Furthermore, after performing erratically in both of their encounters this season, this performance was certainly pleasing for the Dutch trainer. PSV tried to control the game from the start and played aggressive football. The Boeren put constant pressure on the hosts’ back-line and were rewarded in the 21st minute through Mertens. Wijnaldum made an impressive run on the right flank and played a low ball in the box to the 24-year-old, who made no mistake in hitting the back of the net. Three minutes later, the Boeren doubled their lead when Wijnaldum and Mertens combined again in the final third of the pitch. The 24-year-old pierced the home side’s defence with his diagonal through ball to Wijnaldum, who fired a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to make the score-line 2-0. In the 39th minute, Mertens tried his luck from just outside the box, but ADO goalkeeper Gino Coutinho saved his powered shot. However, Coutinho failed to hold on to the ball and the rebound fell to Toivonen, who netted the ball with a neat finish. ADO tried to make a comeback into the match, but the Boeren back-line provided rock solid defence. At the half-time whistle, the visitors were leading the match 3-0. Although ADO were under pressure throughout the opening half, they still produced some impressive moves in the second half and tried hard to bounce back. However, the home side failed to make an impact. The hosts made an impressive move on the right flank in the 67th minute involving Lex Immers, Ahmed Ammi and Paul Mulders. However, Jens Toornstra failed to capitalise on the final ball and Andreas Isaksson saved his effort with ease. Fifteen minutes before the final whistle, Wijnaldum again played an impressive through ball from the right to Jeremain Lens, but Coutinho made a tremendous save to deny the striker from finding the back of the net. Two minutes later, Wijnaldum could have scored his second of the evening, but ADO’s goalkeeper denied the 20-year-old with a diving save. Wesley Verhoek had the chance to score one for the home side in the injury time of the match, but he fired over the crossbar. When the referee blew the final whistle, the score-line read 3-0 in favour of the visitors. PSV will face SBV Excelsior at Philips Stadion in the next encounter, while ADO will lock horns with De Graafschap at De Vijverberg Stadion on Sunday, August 28. blogs.bettor.com/Dutch-Eredivisie-ADO-Den-Haag-0-3-PSV-Eindhoven-Match-report-a92953

From an old article, August 2005. Cover photo against a friendly match with Spanish La Liga team -Valencia CF PAUL MULDERS WANTS TO GO ALL THE WAY - August 2005 His business card he gave off in the pitch against Valencia CF in Outpost. The dry sound of his feet splashed against the underside of the bar apart, but had earned a better fate. That action drew him as a player who can come by surprise. "I saw some space here and there that I can use. But you also have to have a little luck," Mulders muses. He came over from FC Haarlem and is one of the new faces of Cambuur of the coming season. He exudes North-Holland Dutch sobriety and does not look directly as the contemporary type of player that all cross resounding, amulets kissing and blowing kisses to heaven throwing the runs up the battlefield. He would rather not speak about himself. "The people themselves have to say what they find about me. I would not really talk about myself." Mulders is more a boy from the gestampte pot (Dutch saying/slang). Although he has nothing else with that club, it seems the motto 'deeds not words' fit him well. When the transfer of Arnoud van Toor ricocheted from Haarlem to Cambuur asked the trainer, Roy Wesseling, approximately one month later, or I do not feel Cambuur. I was welcomed there. But it is a decision that you as a born and raised in Amsterdam just to think about. It is a distance course. Leeuwarden seems still far away. And the mentality and culture are quite different in the north than in Amsterdam. Mitchell Piqué and I already knew Melvin Holwijn when we were the D's of Ajax football. They have briefed me then. I had a good feeling. The atmosphere in the squad is good. There is much laughter. Another advantage is that I am off the traffic. Now I live in Almere. Often times you about Almere-Haarlem is more than about Almere-Leeuwarden, while the distance twice as large, but then you have 'smooth pedaling' of course. It is my intention to present shortly in Leeuwarden additional living space available, so that after a match or after a heavy training, I no longer have to drive back to Almere." "The point here, with all due respect to Haarlem, all professional stand" Mulders concludes. "Everyone here has his job." That Cambuur has a loyal and fanatical supporters, Mulders was at the time he played here in the past noticed. "I know that people stay here, even if a little less well. But that is the first training as a few hundred people sat in the gallery, was new to me. Something to make up for Haarlem definitely not easy. " The grass is getting used to him. "If it is dry, it's pretty hard and plays a bit rough. That leaves the ball sometimes hooks. If the field is sprayed, the ball remains at the same pace to continue or even accelerate. That is the things you must learn to deal with. " www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=172678309451909

The Special Summer of "Filipino" Paul Mulders by Paul Mulders on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 2:25pm ADO-International Player eleven years in First Division In the section 'ADO Den Haag' this month, AD Ider visits ADO player in a special place in the city. In the first episode, Paul Mulders, International of the Philippines, and at one of the most international of locations: the Peace Palace. by Yorick Roos September 15, 2011, 17:45 Actually, this summer Paul Mulders put his sights on a beautiful foreign adventure. After appearance of eleven seasons in the First Division clubs, he was looking into Australia or Indonesia. That changed after a call from ADO Den Haag. "That was an easy choice," Mulders looks back, seated on the terrace overlooking the Peace Palace. "Most players my age thinking they will gradually phase out. I had the opportunity to move upward." Although Mulders only debuts this season in the Premiership, he is no stranger to professional football. The midfielder has no less than 295 competitions in the first division to his name. He makes his debut in the shirt of Haarlem, "a great time," Mulders said. "It was a period when many young boys from the youth of Ajax came about. I was one of them, and Mitchell Pique and Darl Douglas. Haarlem, which no longer exists, is crazy. I've had beautiful seasons there. The bankruptcy that took place, I find painful." After his stint in North-Holland, Mulders continued his career at Cambuur, Omniworld and AGOVV. "At Cambuur was difficult because the club was struggling financially. Omniworld was particularly extraordinary because I have been living in Almere since my childhood. Playing for a club that almost is in your backyard, it was very nice. Moreover, I met Peter van Vossen, who was coach. With this man, I really clicked. He met me later at AGOVV. Why I never step into the Premier League? Maybe because I only recently have become more serious. I always thought it would pass without saying that I would never be without a club." FANSITE Interestingly enough this summer Mulders was on a foreign adventure. Because of the Filipino nationality of his mother he received an invitation this summer for the national team of the archipelago. A special story. After his transfer, a friend and a cousin from pride made Mulders a fansite for him. It says among other things to read that he has a Filipino background. The link was forwarded to the Philippine Football Federation, which came into action. "I got a call asking if I wanted to do World Cup qualifying matches against Sri Lanka. For me that was quite strange. I did not have dual citizenship and was not even aware of the existence of the Philippine team. Because I was honored with the invitation, I immediately agreed. Subsequently, everything was arranged for me, I did not test or had to do anything. Less than a week later I was in Asia. " Mulders experienced a special week in the Philippines. With the brand new player of ADO, came for his unusual position with the country as left back, to the next round after a 1-1 draw in Sri Lanka and a 4-0 home win. Especially the match in Manila is an emotional event for Mulders and his family. "Shortly before my father died, so for us it was a very rough period. For me it was extra special that my mom was in the stands during the game. The federation had specially arranged for her to come. At such moments are the equally beautiful and sad events very close together. " The Filipino dream in 2014 to arrive at the World Cup has now exploded. On the day 3-0 with ADO in Cyprus against Omonia crashed, losing the compatriots of Mulders a few thousand miles away their decisive match against Kuwait. The player himself was out of action in both games due to an injury. "Against Sri Lanka I ran with a knee wound. That was after the match well cared for, but nonetheless became infected. Shame, because it put a line through the wonderful trips I would have had ahead of me. Fortunately I easily recovered from it, so I still made my debut at home against Omonia for ADO." In the coming period there are no matches for Mulders internationally on the program, which he can fully focus on ADO Den Haag. So far, according to the midfielder, who up to now in all league games was playing very well. "I'm a simple guy who adapts a group play. I can also find good in everyone. I had played for clubs all over the Netherlands, but I still feel most comfortable in the west of the country." BTW, Just wanted to mention that Paul Mulders will be playing a mask in future games in the immediate future for ADO Den Haag, because he suffered a fractured orbital bone recently. Here is a link where you can see him wearing the mask: www.adojournaal.nl/2011/09/ahmed-ammi-en-paul-mulders-met-masker-tegen-rkc/Update: wiking says these pictures are photoshopped. come to think of it, they look like old time hockey masks.

The mask are photoshopped, I think the article writer was just trying to have some fun. Plus, I doubt FIFA or their football federation would allow something that gaudy anyway. Either way, hopefully this means Paul CAN play and might make it to the PI friendlies.

The clear ones that Richard "RIP" Hamilton of Detroit Pistons wore during 2003-04 season because he broke his nose twice and forced to wear it or risk nasal reconstructive surgery. Impact resistant carbonate plastic I think.

Q: Paul Mulders 30 years of age, performed 11 season at the second highest level in the Netherlands, made 45 goals. With your transfer I thought to myself what do we have to do with a guy like that? Do you understand that? A: If you don't know me, well...., everybody just has it's own opinion on the matter. Q: What I mean is, somebody who has already reached a high age in terms football, has played so long on the second highest level, I have also seen you playing at Haarlem, I found it a very surprising buy by the club. I thought to myself, is that the kind of player with which we will go and make that next step (red. ADO plays at the highest level in the Netherlands and ended number 7 last year of the 18 teams competing to be crowned best of the country). I want to add to that immidiatly, that I am in fact over the moon with the performances you have displayed so far. A: Oh, well thank you, I just try to do my best and if people don't know me, well maybe they now see me on TV (red I think he says this but he doesn't articulate these words well enough to be sure, even when I listened it back a few times with Sennheisers on) and about my age, well, maybe that people now have changed their mind about it. Q: You now play a couple of months for The Hague (ADO), what do you like about the club? A: The atmosphere is beautiful. People that come have love for the club but also for the city. The entourage is just great. Q: You have a Philippine mother and since this year you have also become Philippine international, how have you experiences that selection? A: I saw it as a great extra present for me after the transfer to ADO. It's just super. Q: If I'm well informed you play there left back, is that correct? A: That is correct. There was a emergency situation as the normal left back was injured. In the trainers view, nobody else could play there, so I had to fill it in. Q: Does Maurice Steijn (red trainer ADO The Hague) also know you can play left back, because supporters are not happy with Filip Lukšík. Those are my words. Is the left back position a option for you? A: I don't think so, left back position is no option for me. Q: What is you favourite position? A: I prefer to play behind the strikers ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part two of the interview is not very serious anymore and more a way to confront the player with quasi absurd questions to entertain the TV audience and look how he reacts to it and if he composes himself. Q: Now FC Twente and Newcastle United have brought lingerie on the market, would you like to be welcomed by your wife with her own yellow green outfit? A: Surprises are always nice, but yellow green.... can't say I have seen that before in the lingery. Q: World stars as Christiano Ronaldo and Wesley Sneijder have their own facebook account and their own Twitter account and manage those themselves, but you have people that do that for you. What makes you so special? A: Oh, well that is a coincidence. My friends, in fact my nephew started it, that's the way it went. I have nothing with Facebook, but if they want to make one, than that's pretty funny. Q: I have to give those guys my compliments, it looks pretty pro and for people watching, start following him because it's very nice. Last Friday I saw you playing with a mask on your face and a number of female supporters were attracted by it. Do you also wear it at home in the bedroom? A: Is that the case? No, no, no. I think you are totally wrong about that. I think it had the reverse effect and it scared people. Q: One of those females was my girlfriend, where can I buy such a mask? A: laughes ... would be a niche in the market if that was the case. They joke around a bit more, where Mulders chooses a Philippine snack over a Dutch one (as a way to say he feels more the one than the latter) and they wrap the interview up. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My friend's comments: He comes across a pretty calm, even when an interviewer tries to get something out of him (it is a local station, with more room for dare questions). In the first part some interesting points and how great he thinks it is to play for the Philippines. Looks like very down to earth and who knows can play another 4 or 5 years for the Philippines if he is good for his body. One thing. I think he wants to play behind the strikers and move away from left back as soon as possible. Translation of the quiz Mulders was given. It was meant to be funny and entertain the audience. Q: Philippine massage or Thai Massage? A: I think the Philippine massage. Q: Egg sandwich (broodje ei) or Philippine lumpia? A: Philippine lumpia, I think. Q: Left back or Lekkerbek (deep fried batter fish)? A: Lekkerbekje Q: Lick like Lassie or Laugh like Bassie? A: (laughs) Difficult, difficult... Q: First lick and then laugh? A: Sometimes Interviewer: Ok, thank you Paul. And the interview/film ends.
