Neil Etheridge: Showbiz can waitabs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 03/28/2011 1:33 PM | Updated as of 03/28/2011 2:42PM. MANILA, Philippines - Filipino-British Azkals goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is not keen on entering show business. Etheridge admitted that there are a lot of offers for him to join showbiz but his priority right now is football. "“I have a very successful and a bright future playing football in England and I want to experience that before I really enter showbiz. If my time is up before I can enter showbiz in the Philippines, that's just life. But for me football is my main priority.... I’ll carry on doing that. It makes people happy," Etheridge said. Etheridge made the statement in an interview with ABS-CBN News during a victory party in Makati. Etheridge and other members of Azkals arrived in Manila early Sunday following their successful campaign in Myanmar last week. The Philippine Azkals made it to the final group of the 2012 Challenge Cup tournament by hammering out a sensational 3-0 victory over the Bangladesh Bengal Tigers on Friday. Aside from Etheridge, Phil Younghusband, the Azkals midfielder, has also been offered showbiz projects. It would be recalled that Phil was criticized by no less than actress Angelica Panganiban after the latter learned that the Azkals heartthrob supposedly accepted an offer to appear in an independent film. Victory party Meanwhile, some Azkals members, including an injured Phil, were unable to attend their victory party because of other commitments, James Younghusband said. An excited James, who is looking forward to their future competitions, added that the team is taking a brief vacation right now before preparing for their next competition in June. When asked about his love life, James admitted that he misses his half Filipina, half British girlfriend named Fona. He said it was difficult to communicate with her while the team was in Myanmar. Filipino-Spanish booter Angel Aldeguer Guirado, meantime, thanked all Filipinos for their support. He scored 2 goals when the Azkals clashed with Bangladesh Bengal Tigers on Friday. -Report from Gretchen Fullido, ABS-CBN News source: www.abs-cbnnews.com/entertainment/03/28/11/neil-etheridge-showbiz-can-wait

www.philstar.com/article.aspx?articleid=674643What made you decide to play for Philippine Azkals? Were you surprised by the Pinoy’s warm reception? Playing for Philippine football team took me a long time to think about. I made the decisions to play at 18 — very young and told myself never to look back. I make decisions every day in life and career and always remind myself never to regret whatever I do. Everything is part of the learning process to make myself a better person. Seeing different parts of the world that I’ve never seen is an amazing experience of playing for Azkals, but aside from that, people I’ve met and making history for a national football team will never leave my memory. I hope we can build on this success not just as a team but a country as well. We are all in this together; we could never have done this without the support of Dan Palami. I know he doesn’t like to be mentioned all the time, but I feel he deserves to be highlighted in this situation. Do you have any dreams for Philippine football? Of course, I wouldn’t be playing for the country if I didn’t. Even after my playing career, I want to be involved. Maybe as a coach or someone in the background, our team and country has so many possibilities and so much potential. It’s just finding it all and bringing it together. I believe that we can give more and know deep-down that people will follow and support us.

Your welcome logic. Looks like he has embraced his Filipino roots, although technically he can still play for England since he hasn't participated in a FIFA sanctioned event. When he plays WC qualifying in June he will be CAPTIED to the Philippines and will be unable to play for another country then. Of course, I don't think there is any chance of him changing at this time as he sounds fully committed to the Azkals.

sports.inquirer.net/breakingnews/breakingnews/view/20110420-332312/Azkals-goalkeeper-Etheridge-to-sign-new-deal-with-FulhamAzkals goalkeeper Etheridge to sign new deal with Fulham By Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer First Posted 21:16:00 04/20/2011 Filed Under: Football MANILA, Philippines -- Filipino-British goalie Neil Etheridge is expected to sign a fresh deal this week that will keep him with English Premiere League side Fulham for the next two years. It will be the longest contract in the budding career of the 22-year-old Azkals keeper, who rose from the Fulham Academy ranks to break into the first team this season when he was an unused substitute for several games last October and January. “I’m happy to be signing a new two-year deal at Fulham,” Etheridge said in a message to the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “I have been working for this all year, now I have more stability in my contract, which allows me to go out on loan and experience other routes.” Etheridge played 11 times for the national team over the past six months and was a standout performer in the Suzuki Cup in 2010 and the AFC Challenge Cup qualifying tournament last month. Based in London, Fulham, owned by British businessman Mohammed Al-Fayed and managed by former Manchester United star Mark Hughes, has been accommodating to Etheridge’s request to extend his stints with the national side, especially last December during the Suzuki Cup. “Fulham have always been good to me and now I can slowly repay the favor by being a larger part of their first team,” Etheridge added. Azkals manager Dan Palami welcomed the development in Etheridge’s career, saying the goalkeeper’s stay at Fulham would only develop him further and benefit the national team.

This shows that Fulham has faith in Neil. Too bad Neil has to compete against two other goalies who also play for their countries, but, this will only make Neil better.
