This is a good performance against a strong European squad. Unfortunately, except for Senegal, the next few teams will be even better. Hopefully we can obtain an upset or two, but either way, I will be pretty happy as long as they are competitive and keep it close.

Wow I thoroughly enjoyed this game! Except that we lost, this South East Asian team sure gave this European team a run for its money! I agree w/ cjeagle as long as we're in the game and not being blown out it's a step in the right direction and I hope the Filipino masses agree.

I got to watch the game against Greece. They had great defense and whenever the Philippines seemed to be about to go on the rampage in scoring they effectively stopped their momentum. To their credit, Philippines was always there in striking distance, never getting "blown away". They just needed a decent scoring run but Greece denied them that. Next up, Argentina!

Again they played well against Argentina, losing by only 4 points. They seem to have earned the praise of many sports pundits because of their never say die attitude. Keep it up Gilas. Anybody knows a link where I can watch the games. I don't subscribe to NBA TV.

I tried that. I don't think they cover the FIBA World Cup, only the FIFA World Cup. I watched it on ESPN3. it was a live coverage also. but it says on there that it could be subject to black out. espn3 has a clear stream unlike the usual streams i find that have a load of pop ups.

Thanks for the heads up cypher. I have Xbox 360, which among other things allow me to stream live as well as watch all replays of all the recent sports event on the ESPN channels, just like I did with the FIFA World Cup. I am watching the Philippine-Argentina game now as I am typing these, on Hi Def, on my big screen TV. I will only be able to watch some of the games on replay, especially since some of the telecast is in the middle of work.

Another sorry loss against Puerto Rico. Nice effort by Gilas, this time holding the lead for most of the game. They just can't seem to close out games. Chot needs to do better coaching the team at the end of games. He has the luxury of being able to choose whatever assistants he wanted like Baldwin and Black, but in the end it his call to call the shots at the end of the game and he hasn't delivered. I think Baldwin, one of his assistants, calling the shots would have done a better job.

After its impressive showing in the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Seville, Spain, the Philippine national men’s basketball team earned itself more than its fair share of foreign admirers. Count FIBA secretary general Patrick Baumann among that number. Baumann told News5 that he was impressed by Gilas Pilipinas’ showing in the championships after the team gave more experienced teams a good scare before finishing up its campaign with a 1-4 win-loss record in Group B. “I think the Philippines proved they belong on the world level, the world’s elite,” Baumann said. “I think with patience and with a lot of hard work back in the country to grow further talents and bring this team together more in the future, by next World Cup in 2019, Philippines will be back there and they will start to beat everybody that they meet on the court.” Gilas surprised many foreign observers in near-upsets of Croatia, Argentina and Puerto Rico although Baumann believed that they showed their inexperience playing on this level as they failed to get over the hump in those games. Their performance was a pleasant surprise to Baumann, who was able to watch the squad in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championship, which was held in Manila. “Certainly if you compare the team as it played last year in the Asian championship and to compare with this team, there’s been a huge jump in quality and savoir faire in how to go a game,” he said. “What we have mostly appreciated is it came on the court. They were unimpressed. They fought for their right to beat Croatia, beat Argentina.” He added that there was “no doubt” that the Philippines would make a return to the world level given the skill and talent that they displayed in the tournament. “There are young players there. There are players that shoot like hell. It’s just incredible to see them. There’s (naturalized NBA player Andray) Blatche, who’s playing an incredible World Championship, even injured. You have to give him a lot of credit for the heart he’s given to the team,” he said. “We were all impressed.” Baumann also said that the the FIBA officials enjoy having the Philippines in tournaments because of the passion and enthusiasm that their team and supporters bring to the table. “We were all cheering for Philippines somehow because there’s a lot of spectators in the tribune that follow the team and always give incredible ambience to the World Cup,” he said. “We think that the basketball federation in the Philippines, the whole basketball family deserves a lot of credit for the achievements of this team here in Sevilla.” www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/we-were-all-cheering-for-philippines-fiba-secretary-general-patrick-baumann-expects-gilas-back-on-world-stage-in-2019

Has anyone noticed that since Pacquiao ventured into basketball, the Philippine Gilas seems to have a lot of good fortunes happening?!?!
