www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=542919&publicationSubCategoryId=69By Josue Jamlang (The Philippine Star) Updated January 22, 2010 12:00 AM Comments (3) Football has truly arrived in the Philippines with the conception of the Football Alliance. By bringing the United Football League — which has been running for the past eight years — to a higher and more professional standard, footballers around the country now have a venue where they can strive to showcase their talent, creativity and skill. With 16 teams, two tightly contested divisions, and glory waiting to be snatched, the UFL is ready to display all the reasons why football is the most widely followed and played sport throughout the world. For those who were privileged enough to catch the inaugural match of the UFL-LBC Cup unfold last year, it is not surprising if this year's opening games draw high expectations and immense anticipation. In the previous two-month-long tournament, where the Air Force Rider squad was crowned champion in an all-AFP final, spectators were treated to a plethora of razor-thin matches brimming with passion and teamwork. With a transfer window where clubs can drop and add players to their squads, expect teams to become stronger and more well-prepared when the league kicks off this weekend. The 24th of January is when all the action gets underway. Check www.footballalliance.ph for the schedule of the eight riveting matches to be played.

We do not play competitive futbol but just weekend warriors.Try to look for friends that you can play with in your area. Its fun kicking the ball than watching somebody kick the ball.LOL

kodamarcher:Playing football is not like playing the violin; you don't need to start so young in football.

There's the Weekend Football League in Manila for players who like to play on weekends. The teams are composed of from 18 yr. old kids to 44 yr old over the hill. 26 ka? I think you have a lot of game left in you barring injuries. Look for a team who plays to have fun and not the competitive one.

Kaya FC appears to be back in the UFL. Can they rebuild their squad after the "withdrawal"?
