can army, navy or air force field players that are not serving? If this teams cannot field/sign non service men, their pool of talents wont be much. Other teams are really aggressive on building up their roster. How about the Green Archers, are they allowed to field non-alumni of the school?

Army, navy and air force should invest on people OUTSIDE the service, mga kapamilya nila, mga kapatid nila, basta may connection sa armed services, mas maganda iyon, kasi outsourcing and commercialization is good for them.

Before the "Fil-fors" arrived it was the armed services that had the most quality players. I think they can hang with just a few reinforcements. What I cant believe is that the PNP with the largest manpower has not decided to join yet. Im sure they have alot more gems waiting to be unearthed compared to the others basing on the fact that they have over 100,000 members in the force. Also, maybe the Navy and Coast Guard can field a mixed team to be more competative? Just a thought. Their total manpower is less than just the army! I think its great for PR and advertising for the services. The larger pro and/or semi pro league the better for soccer fans anyway.

www.footballalliance.ph/league/News.phpBigger United Football League season looms A bigger, better and more competitive United Football League is in the works. Months before the season-opening UFL Cup kicks off, major developments have heightened the excitement of the Manila-based premiere league which is riding the wave of the unprecedented surge in interest for the sport. A landmark television deal with TV5 which will pave the way for matches to be aired live for the first time in history and the impending entry of high-profile players have added to the buzz surrounding the season starting in October. The league, backed by LBC and ran by Football Alliance, is set to sign a P150 million, five-year television deal with at least 80 games expected to be aired live for the season. “This will definitely change the landscape of football in the country,” said Football Alliance chairman Santi Araneta, referring to the TV deal which is considered a first in the history of the sport in the country. The deal includes a cash outlay of P20 million annually and another P10 million for advertising promotions. Football Alliance sees the developments as a product of the effort they put in improving the league starting three years ago. “The UFL has been there for quite some time, but we made it a point to really improve the league when Football Alliance came in three years ago,” said Araneta. Araneta was quick to point to the success of the national football team “Azkals” as the main reason behind the rise of the sport and the league. “We are always thankful for what the Azkals has done for the sport,” he said. “We hope to also find ways to contribute in the growth of football in the country. Some of the top players in the league like Aly Borromeo, Anton del Rosario, Ian Araneta and Chieffy Caligdong are members of the national team. The cash outlay will not only ensure the league’s staging for the next five years, but also boost the finances of the clubs. UFL teams are actually bracing for the most competitive season yet. The first and second divisions will expand to 10 teams each this season. Aside from defending champion Air Force, the first division features Global, Kaya, Navy, Loyola, Green Archers and Army. Nomads will be promoted to the first division next season for topping the second division. Stallions and Pasargad, which finished second and third, respectively, have the inside track in the two remaining first division slots. The UFL Cup opening on October 2 will actually stake the two remaining first division berths. Teams outside the first division that will make the semifinals will face either Stallions or Pasargad who could gain automatic entry should there be no new teams making the UFL Cup last four. “We expect better quality and exciting games,” said Araneta. _______________ In other news clubs from the Visayas and Mindanao are also planning to set up a version of the UFL in their region as this article culled from various sources indicate: Manila, AUGUST 28 (Sugod.com) – The LBC United Football League has become one of the biggest league in the country but fans still clamor for a bigger competition. To the fans, wait no more because two football leagues have alledgely been proposed in the Central Visayas and Western Mindanao. Sun Star Cebu recently reported rumors about a Visayas-wide football league that will comprise clubs from Leyte, Cebu, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Iloilo. On the other hand, a group of football enthusiasts have opened opportunities to players in Mindanao with the upcoming the Zamboanga United Football league – ZAFA Cup. These developments are good for the development of football in the country specially for kids who are still building their dreams – a dream that someday they will be playing for a local club in a local football league. _______________________ All this news augur well for the eventual possibility of having a nationwide professional league.

I think expanding it to VisMin is to early. Let UFL run its thing for a couple of years before thinking of fusing the two leagues.
Would they show the 1st game of the UFL CUP? Anybody knows What kind of format will they use for UFL CUP? Is it like the FA CUP(England) ? Will 1st and 2nd Div team play against each other depends on the draw? What happends if there is a draw? will they play extra time or a 2nd leg? Have you seen any adds about the coming season on print or TV?

UFL Cup lures 28 teams
Defending champion Global FC and back-to-back league titlist Air Force headline the roster of teams seeing action in what is seen as a slam-bang United Football League Cup kicking off Oct. 8 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium and he Uniersity of Makati pitch.
Global, which emerged as a force in the league last season, will go for back-to-back crowns in what is expected to be the most competitive Cup since Football Alliance started running the tournament three years ago.
So far, 28 teams have signed up for the Cup, which also dangles slots to the first division next season. The draw is slated Sept. 16.
Exciting changes have marked the buildup to the season with the league set to seal a P150 million television deal with TV5 that will pave the way for the live airing of UFL matches and teams beefing up the squads in anticipation of a tough season ahead.
Global, which lost only once in 20 matches in a remarkable campaign last season, isn't expected to have it easy this year, despite the inclusion of new players like Filipino-Spanish striker Angel Guirado in the team.
The squad managed by Dan Palami has two titles already in 2011, claiming the Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win over Air Force in the final and the National Club Championship crown.
The Airmen, who bagged the league title by nipping Global on points on the final day of the season last June, will lead the host of challengers to Global's reign.
Kaya FC, which strengthened its lineup during the off-season with the inclusion of national players Jason Sabio and Nate Burkey, is also tipped to do well after skipping the competition last year.
Loyola FC, which is expected to have brothers Phil and James Younghusband in its fold, will also be a force to reckon with, along with other first division sides Green Archers, Navy and Army, which also boasts of several national players in its lineup.
Newly-promoted first division side Nomads is also joining the Cup. Nomads reached the quarterfinals of the Cup last season.
Also entered are second division teams Stallions, Pasargad, Dolphins, Union Internacionale Manila, Lions FC, Sunken Garden and Japan FC.
Among the new teams seeing action in the Cup, Pachanga seems to have the pedigree, having made the quarterfinals of the National Club Championships recently.
Also joining are Garuda, Forza, ABC Stars, Baguio, MFC, Manhur, Soccerroo, Atelier, Loyola 2, Laos, Schwarz and Manila Sudanese, which also reached the quarterfinals of the Cup last year.

So aside from Iranian(Pasargad), UK(Nomads), and Japanese(Japan FC) themed teams in the UFL, we now have Indonesian(Garuda), Laotian(Laos FC), Australian(Socceroos), Sudanese(Manila Sudanese, is that North Sudan or the recently proclaimed nation of South Sudan) and possibly Italian(Forza) teams as well in the UFL Cup. UFL should stand for United Nations Football League. ;D

All in all it'll be good for PI soccer!! Go UFL!! UNFL? nice...

Or they are really a foreign FC joined in?

Or they are really a foreign FC joined in? They are based here in PHL and also they should be members of the PFF. So foreign teams cannot play in the UFL. they only have foreign themed names. If I could sidebar I hate this progression because isn't it supposed to be the Philippines' local league? They're making it hard for casual fans to enjoy it because of the names of the teams. We should base teams on geography - but they don't have to do fly away games - all games could be played within metro manila while the league is growing. The team name doesn't have to be a name of a province or a city (i.e. Arsenal is in London), but it should loosely at the least represent something Filipino and build a fan base around that. I'd love for them to make a Manila City FC, Manila United FC, Laguna FC, Katipuneros FC (just writing whats on the top of my head), etc... Heck, some games could be called the manila derby (Manila City FC vs Manila United FC) or even the clash of the city against province. Bacolod (or Panaad FC) vs Iloilo (Barotac Nuevo) could be interesting.

I agree. In fact if the UFL have to use football themed names for their teams especially for those with players predominantly from a particular region, wouldn't it be better to name it like Real Manila, Dumaguete United, Forza Cebu or Sporting Bacolod for instance rather than a foreign nation.
Since Manila has supporters from every province in the area this might even attract fans and create a rivalry that will help market the league.
