Faroes hit for four Print Email Share Tuesday, 02 August, 2011
Chris Long scores two as England begin Nordic Tournament emphatically.
England got the defence of their Nordic Tournament crown off to the perfect start with a comfortable 4-0 dismissal of Faroe Islands.
The Nordic Tournament represents the first international competition of the season and is the first of potentially six tournaments this year group could compete in this season, with the ultimate aim being to qualify for the European U17 Championship Finals next summer.
Last season’s batch of U17s won all four matches in Finland to win the Nordics and the latest crop, who are in Iceland, have started as they mean to go on.
An own goal by Jon Aki Jacobsen after 12 minutes began the rout before Everton’s Chris Long scored the first of his two goals just before the half-hour mark. Arsenal forward Chuba Akpom added a third soon after the restart (U17s play 40 minutes each way) before Long completed his brace five minutes later.
With a second game, against Norway, tomorrow, Head Coach Kenny Swain took advantage of the four-goal margin to make five changes on 53 minutes, with Isaac Hayden replacing skipper Shay Facey, Luke Woodland replacing Connor Randall, Ashley Smith-Brown replacing Danny Smith, Mason Bennett replacing Akpom and George Glendon coming on for Lewis Baker.

Yes, his father. Been managing his football development and progress. He is progressing well with Bolton Wanderers FC and with England under 16's and now under 17's. Myself and Luke are looking at future options and possibility of representing Philippines. Luke is represented by a football agent in UK, but I am making the initial investigation re: Philippines. I was contacted earlier this year regarding interest in Luke representing Philippines with the under 19's and training with Olympic Squad, but it was an unofficial approach and matters never progressed. The approach was direct to Luke via facebook. I followed up on his behalf but no response. I am involved in football industry and football youth development in UK and more recently in Hong Kong, therefore have an understanding of football in Asia. As a family we visit Philippines as my wife and Luke's mother is Filipina originally from Daet, Camarines Norte, but we have been based in Abu Dhabi and England since Luke's birth. I would like to discuss opportunities with someone from the PFF if there are future possibilities.

pauljpwleisureFirst of all, welcome to usapangfootball. I can't speak in behalf of the members but I would like to extend my appreciation for your interest of having Luke represent the Philippines. Next year will be a very busy year for our nationals and this would be the best time for you and your family to try to reach PFF. I'm sure some members here have direct affiliation with our federation. So hopefully you will receive a private message from them. In a different note, I also hope that you can work with Wiking. He's one of our members who tirelessly provides update on players playing in abroad (which is greatly appreciated) So that we can check on Luke's progress with Bolton's youth team.

Hope he'll become as good or better as Stephan Schrock who had represented Germany U18, U19, U20 and Dennis Cagara who had also represented Denmark U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21.

pauljpwleisure, just an important detail regarding Luke Woodland's eligibility, was his mother still a Filipina citizen when Luke was born or was she a UK citizen already? There's a nuance to that, as the process on either case is different. The former is the simplest, the latter not so simple and has time constraints (before he turns 18). Whatever the case, there is nothing to worry about because either process doesn't jeopardize his UK citizenship.

Ok they will be contacting Rob Gier to contact you guys soon: could you PM me your email address? I'm just a conduit though so I cannot promise anything, but the ball is rolling for you. A question they want to know: Is Luke interested in representing the Philippines as opposed to England in the U tourneys? PM me if you don't want to post here.
Please PM your email asap.
