He has been called up for England u-17 duty for the Algarve Tournament. Under-18s: Man City 0 Bolton 3 Posted on: Mon 30 Jan 2012 Wanderers Under-18s made it back-to-back wins in the Academy League as they recorded an impressive 3-0 win away at Manchester City. Following on from the win at home to Crewe Alexandra seven days earlier, David Lee and Tony Kelly's scholars avenged the narrow 3-2 defeat suffered against the Blues in early December. Oscar Threlkeld netted his second goal in three matches when he fired Bolton ahead with 20 minutes played. Following a corner, the central defender showed excellent technique to plant a volley across goal and find the corner of the net. The lead was doubled on the half-hour mark when Zach Clough latched onto a great long pass from Niall Maher, before rounding the Manchester City goalkeeper and converting from a tight angle. Luke Woodland, who has recently been called up to the England Under-17s squad for an upcoming tournament in the Algarve, sealed the three points by completing the scoring 20 minutes from full-time.The powerful midfielder netted a brilliant solo effort, carrying the ball forward and hitting the target from all of 25 yards. Head Coach David Lee said: "Luke's goal capped a good week for him as he has now gone away to prepare for England's involvement in the tournament in Algarve, where he could play in games against Portugal, France and the Netherlands."As for the win against Manchester City, it was an overall pleasing performance as we were professional and disciplined." Wanderers: Fielding, Matthews, Maher, Threlkeld, Dennis, Woodland (McQuade 70), Wolstenholme, Lester, Clough, Iliev, Caton.

Young Lions beat hosts Portugal in Algarve Tournament opener.
England U17s got off to a winning start in 2012 and the annual Algarve Tournament on Thursday afternoon, by beating host nation Portugal in the competition's opening game.
John Peacock's side are in the Algarve for the Tournament as they step-up their preparation for the UEFA Elite Qualifying Round next month and it took a last minute goal from captain Leo Chambers of West Ham United to seal a second win against the Portuguese this season following August's 1-0 victory in Northampton.
The Young Lions made a bright start to the game and caught their hosts cold in just the fifth minute as Newcastle United striker Adam Campbell opened the scoring on his debut for the U17s.
England had to show their resolve though, as Portugal finished the first half strongly and put the defence under increasing pressure as the first 40 minutes drew to a close with Peacock's side fortunate to go into the break with their lead in-tact.
The second half saw both teams make a string of substitutions and Portugal levelled things up shortly after their first set of replacements through Cristian in the 53rd minute.
It looked as though the game was going to end all square, but England kept going and got their winner in the final minute when Chambers headed home a free-kick to seal their victory.
England are next in action on Saturday afternoon, when they face the Netherlands in their second of three games. (Luke Woodland Subbed in for John Swift in the 66th minutes)

Ten man England draw 2-2 in Algarve Tournament.
England U17s and their Dutch counterparts shared a thrilling draw in the Algarve Tournament on Saturday afternoon, which could so easily have been a deserved victory if it wasn't for Holland goalkeeper Nick Olu saving a last minute penalty.
After winning their opener against hosts Portugal on Thursday, Head Coach John Peacock had asked for a better performance from his players and that's exactly what he got, even with his side having to play for the majority of the game with ten men after Jordan Houghton's first-half red card.
Most of the action took place in a compelling first-half though, with England taking a 13th minute lead through Derby County's Will Hughes following good work from Devante Cole and Calum Chambers in the build-up.
Holland hit straight back though with Rai Vloet levelling things up from the penalty spot. If conceding the goal was a blow to England, it was made even worse as Houghton was shown a red card for his part in giving the penalty.
Peacock's side continued to play well though, and they restored their lead after 24 minutes when Jordan Graham played in Kieran Wallace, whose deep cross was expertly converted by Southampton's Chambers.
It looked as though the Young Lions had done enough to take their lead into the second half, but Dutch striker Sheraldo Becker had other ideas and got another equaliser in the last minute of the first half.
Both teams made changes after the break and the game remained a close affair, but England had a great chance to win the match at the death when a penalty was awarded in the 79th minute. Substitute Callum Robinson stepped up, but Olu guessed right and made a good save.
England's final game in the Algarve Tournament against France takes place on Monday morning.

Woodland Stars For England Under-17s Posted on: Mon 06 Feb 2012 It has been a great week for Bolton Wanderers' scholar Luke Woodland, who has helped England Under-17s win the Algarve Tournament in southern Portugal.
The central midfielder featured in all three of the Young Lions matches, including starts against Holland on Saturday and France on Monday morning.
Prior to this, Woodland had been introduced as a second half substitute in the first game on Thursday against Portugal.
In the round robin competition, England finished top of the group after recording a 2-1 win against the hosts Portugal, a 2-2 draw against Holland and a 2-1 win over France.
Bolton Wanderers Under-18s Head Coach David Lee said: "Luke's call up was deserved because his performances this season have been of a consistently high standard.
"It's no surprise that he has done well in the tournament because he is a quality player and we have high hopes for him here at Bolton.
"He has got to keep playing well in the youth games from now until the end of the season, and with the way that he is progressing then he could well find himself playing more reserve team matches on a regular basis."
Lee's Assistant Coach, Tony Kelly, added: "As a club we are delighted for Luke. It goes to show that the academy is getting the exposure it deserves.
"It really is a selling point for the academy that our players are progressing and are getting an opportunity to play for their country.
"Obviously David Lee and I are pleased for him, as too are his team-mates, but he will be treated no differently once he returns.
"Luke is a level-headed lad and I'm sure that he will continue to work hard for the team as we look to kick-on in the second half of the season."

They just beat France 2-1 via "last minute goal". They win the tournament(U17)! Lions' late winner seals title By Nicholas Veevers Monday, 06 February, 2012 A late goal from Callum Robinson seals 2-1 victory over France. England ended their trip to Portugal on a high, as Callum Robinson's injury time winner sealed a 2-1 victory over France and the title of Algarve Tournament winners for 2012 with two wins and a draw in their three games proving enough to make them champions in the annual competition. It had looked as though it wasn't going to be England's day as they spent the second half in search of a winner only to find French 'keeper Mike Maignan in fine form and a number of opportunities narrowly off-target. Aston Villa man Robinson finally hit the mark though to end what has been a profitable fives days for John Peacock's men, during which they have remained unbeaten against three top teams in France, Portugal and the Netherlands. The game got off to an even start, but it was England who took the lead when Southampton winger Calum Chambers got his second goal of the Tournament to put his side ahead. It was so close to being 2-0 shortly afterwards, as Newcastle striker Adam Campbell saw a shot hit the post in the 27th minute before the same player then had an effort superbly saved by Maignan three minutes later. France got themselves level just before half-time though, as Lyon's Anthony Martial struck in the 37th minute. Into the second-half, and Maignan continued to thwart England, firstly denying substitute Devante Cole after a powerful run from Leo Chambers and then saving an effort from Jordan Graham. Cole sent another shot wide of the target and with three minutes added on, it looked as though England would have to settle for a draw but Robinson popped up to nick his late goal and a memorable victory for his team. Young Lion Luke urged to maintain high standards 7:30am Tuesday 7th February 2012 in
LUKE Woodland, Wanderers’ latest graduate to international football, has been tipped to step up from the academy ranks to reserve-team football, provided he maintains his high standard.
The 16-year-old central midfielder helped England Under-17s to victory in the Algarve Tournament in southern Portugal over the weekend, starting in two of the games and appearing as substitute in the other as they finished top of the table in the round robin competition.
And Wanderers U18s head coach David Lee believes the youngster who earned his England call on the back of his performances for the Academy, could become a reserve-team regular.
“Luke’s call-up was deserved because his performances this season have been of a consistently high standard,” Lee said.
“It’s no surprise that he has done well in the tournament because he is a quality player and we have high hopes for him here at Bolton.
“He has got to keep playing well in the youth games from now until the end of the season, and with the way that he is progressing he could well find himself playing more reserve-team matches on a regular basis.”
Wanderers U18s made it three wins in a row in the Academy Premier League on Saturday when they followed up victories over Crewe and Manchester City by coming from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 at Euxton with goals from Georg Iliev and James Caton.

Under-18s: Wolves 3 Bolton 3 Posted on: Mon 20 Feb 2012 Bolton Wanderers Under-18s made it four matches unbeaten at the weekend, however they were forced to settle for a point in a topsy-turvy 3-3 draw away at Wolves.
After going a goal behind early on, the Whites responded on the half-hour mark when Oluwasanmi Odelusi (below) scored from six yards following Glen Matthews' corner.
Wolves edged back ahead shortly before half-time, but Odelusi once again levelled the scores when he was well-placed to head in Chris Lester's cross after the winger had beaten his defender, 15 minutes into the second half.
Zach Clough (below) was introduced from the bench with 20 minutes remaining, and the diminutive striker looked to have won the game just five minutes after his arrival with a composed finish from a tight angle.
But David Lee and Tony Kelly's side were denied their fourth successive victory in the Academy Premier League when the hosts levelled in the 88th minute.
Head Coach Lee said: "We started a little slow with no tempo, but we got better as the game progressed with better patterns and phases to our play.
"We responded well to going behind twice and overall it was a pleasing second half performance, with the players showing great attitude and character to continue their unbeaten run."
Assistant Coach Kelly added: "We had worked so hard to get 3-2 in front and for Wolves to receive a throw-in, which they took 15 yards further than they should, and score from that is cruel.
"But the lads have got to get used to playing with the multi-ball system. Hopefully they will learn from it."
Bolton: Fielding, Maher (Colman 80), Matthews, Dennis, Threlkeld, Woodland, Lester, Wolstenholme, Odelusi, Iliev, Caton (Clough 70)
