Under-18s: Leeds 1 Bolton 2 Posted on: Mon 05 Mar 2012 Bolton Wanderers Under-18s returned to winning ways at the weekend, clinching a late 2-1 win away at Leeds United.
After going a goal behind early on in the second half, David Lee and Tony Kelly's scholars showed character to turn the game on its head and seal three important points.
Luke Woodland was in the right place to head home a James Caton corner on the hour mark, before Niall Maher (right) won the game five minutes from time with a clinical volley from eight yards out, with Caton once again the provider.
Head Coach Lee said: "We weren't at our best, although the character of the players came through. It was a good result after a workmanlike performance.
"We had several good opportunities in the first half and started well. We conceded after half-time through an individual mistake but we responded well with Luke Woodland's goal.
"Lewis Fielding made a couple of good saves at 1-1 and Tom Youngs and Zach Clough came close to scoring for us.
"Niall Maher showed good technique for his winning volley to ensure it was a pleasing result."
Bolton: Fielding, Maher, Threlkeld, Hampson, Dennis, Woodland, Caton, Wolstenholme, Iliev, Clough, Proudfoot (Young 45)

Peacock Names Under 17 Squad for Elite Round POSTED BY TOM BENNETT ⋅
John Peacock has named his squad that will travel to Georgia to take part in the European under 17 Championship Elite Qualifying Round.
The mini-tournament kicks off on 26th March where England will face Georgia, Ukraine and Spain in a bid to reach the final tournament in Slovenia in the summer.
England came top of their initial qualifying group and won the Algarve Tournament in February, giving them a huge boost in confidence heading into the Elite Round.
Georgia and Slovenia are must-win games for England whilst the challenge of Spain looks to be their hardest test.
John Peacock has selected Chuba Apkom, Jack Jebb, George Willis and Luke Shaw following their injuries which kept them out of the Algarve Tournament.
Peacock told thefa.com “It’s a hard job to pick 18 players for the squad, but that’s the sort of problem that I want to have,”
“We’ve got a real depth in this age group and that’s something which we’d like to have in all the year groups. We know that the original squad picked isn’t always the one which eventually travels for various reasons so that depth is important and the door is never closed on any players.”
England play Ukraine in their first game on 26th March and you can follow their journey through the Elite Round on The Youth Radar throughout the end of the month.
Full Squad
Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn (Manchester City), George Willis (Sheffield United). Defenders: Leo Chambers (West Ham United), Alastair Gordon (Chelsea), Jordan Houghton (Chelsea), ), Ryan Inniss (Crystal Palace), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Josh Webb (Aston Villa). Midfielders: Calum Chambers (Southampton), Diego Poyet (Charlton Athletic), Jordan Graham (Aston Villa), Jack Jebb (Arsenal), John Swift (Chelsea), Luke Woodland (Bolton Wanderers). Forwards: Chuba Akpom (Arsenal), Devante Cole (Manchester City), Will Hughes (Derby County), Callum Robinson (Aston Villa).

Chambers gives Lions perfect start Print Email Share Monday, 26 March, 2012 England beat Ukraine 1-0 in Elite Round opener. England got their UEFA European U17 Championship Elite Qualifying Round campaign off to a perfect start with a 1-0 victory over ten-man Ukraine. Southampton's Calum Chambers grabbed the winner just before the hour-mark, neatly converting Will Hughes’ cross. Ukraine defender Taras Kacharaba was sent off after receiving a second yellow card as early as the 36th minute, but England were already on top by that stage. After a slow start, captain Ryan Inniss saw a thumping header saved by Bogdan Sarnavsky and some neat footwork by Chelsea midfielder John Swift earned him a yard of space but he could only fire wide. The Ukrainian upright was also struck just before the interval as John Peacock’s young side looked to turn the screw. They came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, with Hughes shooting wide and Chuba Akpom hitting the side netting after some good build-up play. It was then Chambers’ moment to shine, steering home Hughes’s centre to give England a deserved lead. It could have got even better when Swift slipped a through ball to Akpom, but Sarnavsky got the better of the Arsenal man in their one-on-one duel. England pressed for a second as Swift skewed a shot over the bar before Jordan Graham hit the post with a free-kick. Ukraine’s best efforts came from set pieces, though their task was admittedly made all the more difficult by Kacharaba’s first-half sending off. England now top Group 3 as host nation Georgia held Spain to a 1-1 draw. England take on Georgia on Wednesday before rounding things off against Spain on Saturday. Euro hopes ended by Spain Saturday, 31 March, 2012
John Peacock's team see their season ended in Tbilisi.
England U17s missed out on qualification for the European Championship Finals, following a cruel defeat at the hands of Spain in Tbilisi on Saturday afternoon.
Both the Young Lions and Spain went into the game knowing that even a victory might not be enough to see them seal a place at May's Finals in Slovenia and that was how it proved, as host nation Georgia topped the group with a 1-0 victory over Ukraine to reach the Finals.
England Head Coach John Peacock will be disappointed with the way his side ended their season, although the scoreline certainly flattered the Spaniards on this occasion.
Peacock had predicted an open game and that was how it proved. After a first-half dominated by England, Spain were thankful to 'keeper Ruben Blanco who made a string of saves to keep the Young Lions at bay.
He kept out two efforts from Will Hughes, another fine tip-over denied Chuba Akpom and he also made a good save to prevent Calum Chambers from opening the scoring and giving England a half-time lead.
However, Spain found their rhythm in the second half and scored just five minutes after the re-start through Ivan Calero, whose curling shot found the top corner from just outside the box.
Two minutes later, they doubled their advantage when Alejandro Grimaldo advanced from left-back before driving a low shot past George Willis and into the bottom corner.
England tried to fight back and came close to reducing the arrears when Luke Woodland's header came crashing back off the bar before Callum Robinson shot the rebound over.
Hughes was then denied again as his shot beat Blanco, only to be scrambled clear off the goal-line in the 56th minute.
A minute later and Spain added a third through midfielder Sergi Samper who fired another shot beyond Willis and into the top corner.
More salt was rubbed into the wounds in added time when substitute Jose Gaya slotted home from close range following a run into the box.
With Spain's victory secured, all eyes turned to the other game across Tbilisi but with Georgia holding on for a win, neither England or Spain will be contesting for the European title this year.

What's the update on this guy now? He is now known to the PFF, Dan Palami and our Euro "scout" Rob Gier. At this time he and his team(Englands U17 team) are performing wonderfully in all competitions as well as his stellar play with the Wanderers youth team. We shouldn't expect him in Philippine kit anytime soon, the way he is playing.

Unfortunately, Bolton has just been relegated from the Premiership to Championship League. And yes, I wanted them to stay up because of Luke and US player Stuart Holden.
Yes, this will affect Luke because the competition will be lower. Maybe he will play more? Maybe he switches clubs? For him to continuously be on the radar for the England Under-x teams, he has to be with a Premiership club. Anyway, hoping for the best for Luke.

i dont think it will affect Luke because the championship league is pretty competitive also. and hes not even in the first team right now so it wouldnt matter. but who knows.. maybe an EPL club might pick him up if he shows potential.

Luke is playing for Bolton's lineup for the Milk Cup, the same cup that opened the doors for David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Steve McManaman, and a lot of other players. It begins today.

Report: Chorley 0 Wanderers XI 1 Posted: Tue 31 Jul 2012 Author: BWFC Staff
Substitute Luke Woodland scores a late winner at Victory Park after coming off the substitutes' bench
Midfielder Luke Woodland scored the match-winning goal for Bolton Wanderers XI in Tuesday's friendly against Chorley at Victory Park.
The England Under-17 international, in his first game back since helping the Academy team secure third spot in the Milk Cup in Northern Ireland last week, headed a late winner ten minutes before the end after being introduced from the bench.
Following Adam Blakeman's weaving run down the left channel, Woodland stole in at the near post to turn in a delicate chipped cross.
Wanderers should have been at least one goal up at the break - Sanmi Odelusi headed narrowly wide when unmarked before Tom Eaves was denied his second goal of pre-season by the legs of the Chorley goalkeeper.
The result ensures John Henry's Wanderers XI team have enjoyed an unbeaten start to pre-season, having registered a 1-1 draw against Bamber Bridge and a 2-2 tie at Radcliffe Borough in their first two matches.
Wanderers XI:Lynch, Threlkeld, McQuade, Hampson (Battersby 46), Kellett (Dennis 70), Blakeman, Roberts, Odelusi, Eaves (Woodland 77), Sweet (Sampson 70), McKee

Under-18s: Wanderers 5-1 Arsenal Posted: Sun 19 Aug 2012 Author: BWFC Staff
Wanderers’ under-18 side started their new campaign in spectacular fashion, comprehensively beating their Arsenal counterparts at the Lostock Academy on Saturday afternoon.
Milk Cup Golden Boot winner Zach Clough opened the scoring with a low drive from the edge of the area after some sloppy defending from the north London outfit.
Elliot Newby then doubled Bolton’s lead in spectacular style. As Arsenal cleared the ball from a set piece, Newby displayed incredible technique to strike a full volley from all of 30 yards into Arsenal ‘keeper Josh Vickers’ far corner.
Early in the second period Clough added Bolton’s third, capping a slick passing move with a delicate finish before helping create the fourth moments later.
Clough lashed a free-kick goalwards which Vickers failed to hold, with Tom Youngs on hand to convert the rebounds from close range.
The diminutive frontman Clough continued to impress and was unlucky not to net what would have been a hat-trick goal with a looping long-ranger that came back off the bar.
Youngs added his second and Bolton’s fifth from the penalty spot, before the Gunners netted a late consolation through Jon Toral.
Wanderers:Ole-Sievers, Bailey, Holding, Maher, Matthews, Woodland, Wolstenholme, Youngs, Newby, Iliev, Clough

Under-18s: Wanderers 3-1 West Ham United Posted: Mon 03 Sep 2012 Author: BWFC Staff
Chris Lester, Rob Holding and Tom Youngs all on target in impressive win David Lee and Tony Kelly’s Under-18s continued their impressive start to the campaign at the weekend, beating West Ham United 3-1 at Lostock.
Chris Lester, Rob Holding and Tom Youngs were all on target as the scholars took their points tally to seven from the nine that have been available during the opening three matches.
The Whites took a 1-0 lead into half-time with the breakthrough goal arriving inside the opening ten minutes through instinctive play from Lester, who was on-hand to turn the ball into the back of the net after Zach Clough’s effort had rebounded off the post.
Bolton stepped their performance up another level in the second half and they scored a second when a corner dropped to Holding inside the box, with the central defender scoring from close-range.
The Hammers halved the deficit midway through the second period, but Bolton responded immediately to restore the goal-goal advantage on 71 minutes.
After Luke Woodland had won possession in midfield, Clough backheeled the ball to Youngs, who smashed a 16-yard effort into the back of the net to secure the win.
Head Coach Lee said: “Again, this was another pleasing performance with all individual players doing very well.
“We made a good start to the game and then produced and even better performance in the second half. It was a controlled performance.”
Wanderers:Seivers, Nolan, Matthews, Holding, Gibson, Bailey, Lester, Woodland, Clough, Youngs, Newby.

Stars For England Under-18s Posted: Thu 25 Oct 2012 [/img] Academy midfielder plays 30 minutes against the Italians Academy youngster Luke Woodland was used as a 61st minute substitute in England Under-18s’ 2-0 victory over Italy last night at The One Call Stadium. Woodland was making his first appearance for the Under-18s side after previously representing his country at Under-16 and Under-17 levels, and impressed in front of a crowd of over 5,000 at Mansfield. The midfielder received his call-up on the back of his performances for the table-topping Wanderers’ Under-18s, coached by David Lee and Tony Kelly, who remain undefeated this season. A third minute strike from Everton striker Chris Long gave the Young Lions the early lead, and Manchester City’s Devante Cole’s goal just after the hour mark ensured England would open their new season with victory against a resolute Italian side.
