ABS-CBN, TV5 want exclusive rights to Azkals games

My beef on what network will the PFF stick with for TV coverage next year:
ABS-CBN (including Studio 23 & Balls): As they were the first network to broadcast the national team matches since the 2010 Suzuki Cup, I feel the PFF will still have their vote to ABS-CBN. As the network has a wider coverage area compared to TV5/AKTV, and has a global reach through The Filipino Channel (TFC), I still wish the national team matches be broadcast here for the benefit of both the masa and the average Pinoy football fan.
I would still give credit to the commentator duo Bob Guerrero and Darren Hartmann, as they are a solid team in presenting football matches. Combining Pinoy flair to British wits is a delight to watch and listen, but I don't understand why many would still loathe their manner of commentating. Anyway, compared to AKTV's, they do extensive research on the players and they are able to identify them by face. What I am annoyed with is Bob's over-identifying of the players, like "Dennis Cagara having a brother in Danes Got Talent," "'Airman First-Class' Chieffy Caligdong, 'of Air Force Rider'," sort of these stuff.
On news coverage, I was glad that both Dyan Castillejo and TJ Manotoc of ABS-CBN News gave an excellent work covering the national team. Although there's bias here and there, and their manner of reporting is what many journalism junkies say as "sensationalist," they gave the masa a much needed shot-in-the-arm on learning how football works and how it has helped Pinoy sports in a massive way. I was only annoyed by Karen Davila's interview with the Del Rosario brothers on ANC last September, giving too much reference on David Beckham way before the LA Galaxy friendly was announced.
I am just seriously annoyed by ABS-CBN's hyping by their Entertainment department, like the constant buzz between Phil Younghusband and Angel Locsin on their showbiz talk shows, that awful interview of Kris Aquino to Aly B, Chieffy and Ian on her morning talk show Kris TV last August (Kris was a complete noob, and she also gave reference to David Beckham as well), and too much flirting by the hosts of variety shows Showtime & Happy Yipee Yehey when many of the national team members were guests.
Although they gave them much needed attention because of their looks, I hope ABS-CBN must not exploit them a lot this way. I am really annoyed by that.
TV5 (via AKTV): When I heard TV5 would host TV rights to the UFL, I thought that this is a startup. Given that TV5 has the AKTV block on IBC-13, I should say this coverage of a local footy league is a startup on what the future of this sport holds here in the PI. I'm glad too that TV5 has local broadcast rights to the Premier League, the 1.Bundesliga and La Liga. This gives the masa much needed knowledge on how football is done all over the world. Problem is, TV5 and AKTV has a poor reach. There are only a few stations that broadcast TV5 & IBC, and their broadcast quality is poor in far-flung areas compared to ABS-CBN & Studio 23, even in some low-lying areas in Metro Manila. Manny Pangilinan must have been serious in upgrading IBC's facilities and I want to see results in the next 2-3 years.
I'd say AKTV's commentators are very knowledgeable with football. I'm also happy that their medium is in Filipino. I'm particularly impressed with Ryan Fenix, Rick Olivares and Jason Webb with their way of presenting the intricacies of football in every match. They seem to connect with the audience more than the Bob & Darren duo. What I don't like is that their manner of conversing with each other is like them being in a pub or a bar having a drinking session and guffawing like there's no tomorrow. They also don't research extensively and they seem not to identify some players by face, like they did during the ICanServe friendlies & SEA Games, when they couldn't identify Carli de Murga and Patrick Hinrichsen and having a confusion on the player lineups before kickoff.
I'm not really happy about TV5's news coverage of the national team, and even the UFL. News5 has only one or two dedicated sports journalists compared to ABS-CBN News having a larger pool of presenters. In spite of that they are more unbiased and less hype-inducing than ABS-CBN. Chiqui Roa-Puno was average in my opinion, and she did a good job in reporting national team matches, although not that impressive compared to Dyan Castillejo. I'm just wondering why news bulletins on both TV5 & the news channel AksyonTV don't present UFL match highlights. Conflict of interest, maybe?
Entertainment wise, TV5 did not do much giddy hype compared to what ABS-CBN did. While the Younghusband and Hartmann brothers did guested in showbiz talk show Paparazzi and for James YH, in variety show Hey It's Saberdey, they were given more room for sharing their football skills and their passion for the sport rather than their looks. And with the Younghusband brothers being the football ambassadors for AKTV, I hope they are serious in promoting healthy wholesome living through the sport.
Promoting the sport has been the prime reason why TV5 intended to cover the UFL. I do hope they have this reason too if ever they'll get the rights to cover the national team.
To wrap it up, if that network will win the bid to cover the national team, they consequently hold exclusive, or, at least, a majority of the rights to promote them in their news and entertainment departments. So this will be a choice in balancing between promoting the sport and "hyping" the national team.
