Mike Limpag (a.k.a "kaligo" here) tweeted: I don't agree with move of PFF to get exclusive broadcast deal for Azkal matches. Let anyone who wants to air game, air it.
Someone commented on the Inquirer article, saying:
I hope that ABS-CBN and TV5 will provide replay schedules for all the games up to one-week duration so that more people can watch them. There should also be recap programs that show the highlights and summaries of the Azkals as well as comments and analysis so the local audience can be educated about the finer points of football. I would also prefer that they show all the games of the futsal, futkal (street football), and beach soccers events played locally, as well as the games of the national teams composed of younger players (Under-21, Under-19, etc.). Eventually, they should also start showing the games of the Philippine Volcanoes national rugby team.

If I'm not mistaken GMA (through GMA NEWS TV) broadcasted the match of Philippine Volcanoes in a friendly against Hong Kong last April. But after that no more games GMA broadcasted. I do hope GMA also have a sports channel hehehe ;D GMA MUST HAVE A SPORTS CHANNEL ;D so that there are a lot of sports channels to choose from and more broadcasters to cover our national teams.
Having a program for highlights is definitely needed like in ESPN's Premier League World. So that fans have better understanding about the results of every game.

Azkals charity match organizer teams up with ABS-CBNabs-cbnNEWS.com Posted at 12/27/2011 11:17 PM | Updated as of 12/27/2011 11:17 PM MANILA, Philippines – Organizers of the Philippine Azkals and friends versus Internacional de Madrid charity game are teaming up with several entities to help victims of tropical storm Sendong. The event will be held in cooperation with ABS-CBN Foundation, LBC and Philippine Red Cross. The Philippine side will face Internacional de Madrid, a third-tier Spanish league squad, in a friendly game on January 7 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The event will be called "Dili kamo nag-iisa," according to one of the organizers, Craig Burrows. Booths will be set up at the Rizal Memorial Stadium to accept donations. Sendong ravaged southern Philippines, particularly Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City, just before Christmas. More than 1,000 people perished in the flooding caused by the storm. www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/27/11/azkals-charity-match-organizer-teams-abs-cbn
I'm already thinking the PFF would still stick with ABS-CBN, but I think if MVP of TV5 would give them a fat check plus a lot of other perks, then I'm thinking there will be a change of mind. I hope so not.

Yes, GMA-7 has been covering more of our national rugby union team, the Volcanoes. I don't think they broadcasted the full fixture during their games in Hong Kong on GMA News TV, just the highlights. Anyway, that's a good idea that GMA must have a sports channel, or at least a sports programming block. More competition means more choices. And having a highlights program would be a great idea. Maybe model it too on the BBC's Match of the Day. I love Gary Lineker's presentation style which is full of banter and dry humour. And the show is utterly informative. Commentary is just sharp and straight-to-the-point. Plus its catchy title sequence.
Highlights for 2010/11: Titles for 2011/12:
Maybe in a few months time the PI would have these kinds of shows for everyone's enjoyment.

im not keen on having GMA7 in sports, I recall they never did anything but just air a month delayed games of smart gilas. Even a short T V feature from never materialized.

They can follow the Mexican duopoly model... Televisa (via Canal 2, Galavision, Canal 5 and TDN) and TV Azteca (via Azteca 13 and Azteca 7) both broadcast every match involving the NT, and in the league, both broadcast some teams, even thought ESPN Deportes, Fox Sports México, TVC Deportes, Multimedios Deportes and such can talk 'bout all of them, but not broadcast them, I guess it gives wider coverage and people can choose what they preffer.

Happy New Year everyone![/color] I know Caz, cjeagle and xyz1000 have remembered this discussion already and Mr. Admin has long thrown this to the Garbage Bin, but for the sake of those who haven't known it yet, the issue of media responsibility was a hot topic especially during the issues concerning a few players (which has been disclosed in the thread below) at the height of the World Cup qualifying campaign. While we are still anticipating on the PFF's decision on what network they will close a deal with, the federation and us Pinoy football fans must be reminded of the consequences of having an inept and irresponsible kind of media coverage. Until after the PFF seals its final decision, there we will discuss and suggest on what strategies the PFF and that network must implement to impose control on their coverage of the national team players and the management. usapangfootball.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=garbage&action=display&thread=765

It has been known that the friendly between the Azkals/UFL selection vs. Inter de Madrid will be broadcast by ABS-CBN on 7 January, and there are plans for a friendly against a still unknown Korean club team from Incheon (or is it Icheon?) also planned to be broadcast by the network on the 21st.
Therefore, I'm speculating the PFF will stick with ABS-CBN as its broadcast partner for this year. I hope the decision comes final come the 13th.

It's okay if ABS-CBN continues to air the National Team's fixtures, but please replace the Azkals Logo with the PFF, and call them "National team" instead. Well you can't reach the masses with this kind of approach anyway :sigh:

Just my opinion...
I'm really favouring AKTV because I think ABS-CBN news anchors (TV Patrol, etc...) have a way of being condescending when talking to football fans.
AKTV, on the other hand, is dedicated to sports and knows how deal with fans.

ABS - AKTV is non-existent here in the provinces
Hype - u need hype or no body watches, even haters watch, e.g. my aunt, takes digs on players everytime she hears the word azkals on tv even without knowing what the story is all about but watches their game anyway, we even ask here to watch the games for us and relay the goings-on I mean good or negative, it is still publicity. It is not like there is a remote possibility of the azkals being disbanded because he's dating her or he's joined a singing contest. It's the national team for crying out loud! Give the players and coaching staff their due. Calma lng mga fanatics. Fanatics should be more understanding.
Commentators - I love Bob and Darren. He might not have the highest football IQ but Bob oozes with energy and Darren says what it is. I'm still waiting for Bob's version of GOOOOAAALL!!! (nth times) like he's having a heart attack. He's kind of your regular Filipino guy, may not have the most intricate knowledge in football but with enough enthusiasm and learning with each coverage. I like that he asks Darren what he thinks, why he's shaking his head or what's with his reaction. It cues for the general viewing public, who are not football fanatics, to listen like hey this is what's happening. And Darren, well he lets me know that I'm watching football.
Once a watch an AKTV coverage of Bundesliga while cruising the Camotes Sea way way back when AKTV started these coverages, I thought there was a boring radio show being played simultaneously with the game and I was itching to get a hold of it and throw it overboard, then I realize otherwise when I heard Aly talking. Man, the people around me watching the game were confused as hell, so they made their own analysis of the game. It was fun to listen. That's why I think ABS should still be the broadcaster, they know their audience well. Knowing that your audience has no or little knowledge about football, you don't want to bombard them with information like they have a PhD in football. But then again, it's been a long while, they must have come a long way by now. But still AKTV is non-existent here unless ur willing to pay up for cable connection.

AKTV, on the other hand, is dedicated to sports and knows how deal with fans. ...Although, I'd rather give a damn to its parent network TV5 and its sister news channel AksyonTV. Compared to ABS-CBN, TV5's news department News5 doesn't have enough experience and depth in sports coverage. They only have Chiqui Roa-Puno, Manu Sandejas, and Trish Roque (who had experience as a courtside reporter for UAAP & NCAA) in handling them, and there aren't enough sports reports in their news shows (e.g. their flagship news porgram, Aksyon). They even rarely show news reports regarding the UFL given that the network has exclusive rights to air it!
