Have you read about that team they just made up to play against CF Madrid? The team is composed of UFL AllStar, when I say all stars that includes non Filipino players. So why call it Azkals? why dont they just call it UFL All Star? .

What an insult. They think the fans are dumb.

I would love to see El Habbib,Tressor-Guisso, Yves Ashime, and the others play with our NT players against CF Madrid, but dont call the team "Azkals". It disrespects the name and the time we all fought for for this name during pinoysoccer.com time. It is a sign of ignorance to whoever decided to use the name "azkals alyansa". You are right Buddha, the organizers thinks the fans are dumb thats why they need to use the name everytime they promote the sport.

Has anybody brought this to their attention? This "branding" of all things football as "Azkals?"

I presume the temporary rebranding is to go around the fact that this is technically a UFL All-Star Squad, save for two (Carli and Ojay). And you know any connection towards the UFL is being frowned upon by the station,

We have to remember that this game is a charity game so it means that every tickets sold for this game will be donated to the people of Iligan and CDO... If it means using the name "AZKALS" so that it can sell more tickets... I'm ok with that...

What I dislike about this is they(specially ABS-CBN) always mis-use the name AZKALS. They even put azkals logo instead of PFF when our national team plays another country. What my concern is and I hope it will never happened is, if ABS-CBN keep putting UFL on the backseat coz they signed for another station, UFL team owner will prevent their players to play for the national team if its not a FIFA game. When you watch ABS-CBN you never hear them mention where this players play for club, but on AKTV they always remind us that some of the players on the field plays for Azkals. This is a TV network and we are stuck in the middle. BTW I love to see foreigner player from UFL with our national team against CF Madrid, just dont call them the Azkals. This would also tell us the level UFL game is right now.

"Azkals Alyansa" sounds better than "Azkals & Friends" (as stated in the TicketWorld website).
But Azkals & Friends seems to be more accurate and should have been used instead.

Your right, PFF may not have the rights and I heard Palami got it registered at the proper department. What pisses US off is when they mis-use the name, it is us in this forum who made that name and was happy they start using it.
just imagine it this way " The 3 Lions and friends VS AC Milan" its dorky right?

I remember leaving my apartment to go to RMS because I am watching UFL games and supporting Kaya FC , and I was wearing their jersey, and one of my housemates asked me, "Pupunta ka sa laban ng Azkals no?"
-The bad thing about naming is, people are being misinformed. The Media and those self-declared freethinkers will smash again the national team saying that the "azkals" are composed of those <insert word here> again. That's why calling them Azkals always left a bad taste in my mouth. I prefer calling them the "National team".
-ABS-CBN is milking the national team. Period. I don't want national team treated like the old you-know-who basketball league controlled by the station a long time ago.
It's better if you call them League XI right?

just imagine it this way " The 3 Lions and friends VS AC Milan" its dorky right?i dont really see a problem with it. it doesnt even sound dorky. they used the azkal name cuz the majority of the players are from the national team. its a monicker.. its not like the national team is only team allowed to use it. i bet there are gonna be little amateur teams/clubs that are going to use that monicker as well in the future. its not really a big deal. in fact, the US NCAA where there are hundreds of university members, a lot of them have the same monickers. they dont see it as a problem. its not like the people in the forum made up the word "azkals". the word has been around for awhile. so theres no reason to be mad over this really.

I also don't see any problem with it. It's an Azkals-organised event, and it was also originally an "Azkals vs International Club" event. It just happened that FIFA did not approve the event because it was organised on short notice. The same organisers found a loophole - they can push through without FIFA approval if the match did not involve the national team. Well, the match officially does not involve the national team. The Azkals name is now only used as a marketing devise. The match probably won't attract as much spectators if it were called UFL vs CF Madrid.

I do understand locotes' problem with the use of the name as I too have the same ache seeing it used that way. It was a fear of mine early on that the "Azkals" name, now trademarked, would no longer be "ours". I suppose I do rationalize that the misuse, while leaving a bad taste in my mouth, does come with benefits in popularizing football or, in this case, a football event. The Azkals name would generate more buzz than a team called the UFL All Stars, after all. Still, while I recognize that it works, I don't like it. But I'll take it because the alternative would be hardly anyone in the general populace caring to watch.

nobody owns the word azkals. noone can copyright a word. i dont think dan palami can put a copyright over the word azkals either. A copyright is the right over an original work. i dont think the people in the forum invented the word azkals. the word azkals is a common word used. but dan palami can put a trademark on logos with the azkals emblem. my point is that anyone can use the word azkals as a monicker even if its used as an attention grabber since its a common word but there would be problems if they use copyrighted materials such as emblems.
