akosiabab . after reading your posts. You sounded more like the "agent" of Pavone.. pinoy version. . I really hope that he gets the chance to play again for the NT but I really think he needs to improve his stamina. It is still too early to tell if he has what it takes to be part again of the NT. Unlike other players in the UFL, NT players practices 5 times a week (for club and country) plus competitive match in the UFL ... and thats a tall order.

pinoyscout ? @kp15 saw most of the game and heard the announcer say that these kids were playing and practicing in December while the AF team and most other Div 1 teams were on "Christmas break" man their hard work shows, not just Doctora but the whole team! Too bad those Koreans will be leaving when they finish school, most of them are high caliber players. I didn't care about the Stallions before as I root for the teams with NT members but its hard not to root for those "Koringgos"(Korean-Illonggos). Sabi ng announcers yan!

Another bunch of reactionary comments... I just saw the highlights... You accuse some with being reactionary, yet you've only seen highlights?? Our rose color glasses include seeing the whole game, how about you? Coach playing favorites? Have you seen Ians play for the last 12 months, and not just the highlights, and why is he starting and playing the amount of minutes he has been? While capable players like Nate Burkey sit? You are right its too early to tell, but the "coach" has wasted local talents like Morallo and Barbaso who continue to shine in the UFL. We who watch the local league see this. I'll say this again: The former U17 coach played a FORWARD as a left back in the SEAG while locally based defenders sat(Barbaso, Basa and Fernandez among them). Kids who continuously show if not excellence, high level play day in and day out in the UFL or the college level. We did NOT make this up. Everyone "in the know" from Bob Guerrerro(you'd know him if you ever watched NT games), Sports writers Mike Limpag, Ryan Fenix from the Filipina assistant of Coach Z, local fans in the games who's seen him, etc etc has said how Coach Z sat through about 10(TEN) games of the UFL already to scout players, how he is planning to tour the provinces to scout local youth players. How he's already watched the UAAP juniors game. The "other coach" well... Let's remain on topic here. Read the title. Before anyone claims a Second Coming of Messi, and that he should be included in the national team, more than a few games must be observed. And I'm glad to read that we all actually agree on that. As for the off-topic matters: 1. Yes, I have seen highlights, but I'm not the one asserting that he's a shoe-in for the NT, am I? Oh, I've also seen games, but not that one of Stallions v. Air Force. I saw Stallions v. Loyola where the doctor scored a goal. Excellent header, but an even more excellent service from the wing on the right that allowed the goal. He didn't exactly tear up the game or stand out head above shoulders compared to the other players. What I saw of the game -- he's fast and aggressive, but that's not what caught my eye. I was impressed by the teamwork and passing of the Stallions. Not him as an individual. 2. If the coach is not scouting enough, that could be a problem. But he has much bigger problems in my mind that not enough scouting pales so much in comparison. Not including Doctora for NT games -- I would find it a problem if the coach included too many players because of their potential. Conclusions: Should he be included in the national team roster? NO, not now. Should Coach W be watching him? Yes Are two or three good games in the UFL indicative of NT material? No Should Bob G lose 5 kilos? No, he should lose more.

@wiking. Yeah, same here. Been watching a lot of games lately (but usually in RMS, UMAK) and I won't be surprise if they go all the way. Coach Ernie is doing a tremendous job with this team. The players have improved a lot especially Doctora. We have a lot of talented strikers out there but the dynamics will change once a player is marked similar to what most teams are doing to Philip YH. Anyways, like I said.. I hope this kid get his break with the NT. But I personally think that if there's a homegrown player who deserves a spot in the senior team. That will definitely be Barbaso. This kid has been so consistent and plays hard. Very tough kid. Koringgos! Hahaha.. That's a nice one. and yes.. Too bad. The Koreans will have to leave. Most of them usually enter military school after college. The only positive side we can get from this is that there are a lot of koreans living here. Hahaha..we already have our foreign pool players ready. Waiting to be tapped. Hahaha

Too bad vimjonk is not around anymore. Him and akosiabab had some colorful conversations in the past. ;D
Sounds like our Serbian coach is doing his homework. I read in the past that Coach Weiss watched a few UFL games at the beginning of his tenure, but our Serbian Coach seems to be doing a lot more than that. He is not sparing any effort to find the best players from every league and region of the Philippines to assemble the best team he can find. Impressive. Our Serbian coach in basketball, Smart Gilas Coach Toroman was also known for being a hard working basketball junkie, watching hours and hours of tapes and scouting players and opponents as much as possible prior to competition.
I also noticed the lack of scouting among the current Azkal coaching staff(including the head coach and his assistants), not only with players in our various leagues but also when in regards to our potential opponents in other countries. While the other nation's in the SEA games would send their assistant coaches to watch the games of their potential opponents, we decided to stay at home and scrounge around for tapes or internet livestream links. Same with the Kuwaitis prior to our tangling with them. They sent an experienced official during our game against the Sri Lankans, to study our tactics and players and even read his observations of the game in an interview afterwards. It was very accurate of our style of play and he sounded very confident that they can come up with a plan to counter that. He was also able to identify who our key players are, which I am sure helped their coach when it came time to coming up with a plan to defeat us.
Anyways, I am fan of many sports and leagues here in the US, and the best coaches are usually the ones that work the hardest, have a plan in place, and expects their players to work just as hard as they do. They might be very experienced but are always looking for ways to improve and do whatever it takes to win. They are not just good teachers, but great motivators as well, knowing what buttons to push to help their players achieve their potential. It remains to be seen if our Serbian coach has all this, but this early, I am already impressed by his work ethic.
As for the Stallions, I heard they have a Korean assistant coach who even took over the reins when Coach Nierras was unavailable for certain games in the UFL Cup. I am sure like any good coach, that Coach Nierras has learned a lot from his interactions with this coach as well as with his Korean players. We should encourage our other coaches to do the same.
Anyways, I have not been able to watch any of the UFL games and the recent games of our national team, so I appreciate any input I see from this boards. Probably better that way, as I might be disappointed by their play after watching European league games. The important thing is that our players now have a venue to improve their skills in a league that is continually improving in quality every year. Keep it coming.

Let's remain on topic here. Read the title. Before anyone claims a Second Coming of Messi, and that he should be included in the national team, more than a few games must be observed. And I'm glad to read that we all actually agree on that. He has been in the NT pool for a while now and has been in games though not subbed in. As for that coach scouting or not scouting enough. Most who care seem to notice the "lack off" of the former Rwandan U17 coach. We must have vastly different opinion on this one and I won't argue, but as a coach, how do I find the right players for my team, my system? Answer: Scouting. Seems like he took the local based players and scouted in Germany for the rest not bothering to look for players based here. I'm glad people are comparing the new coach's actions to the one we are stuck with. Fans are becoming more discerning now. As for Ruben, he's not the second coming, but its nice to know the Philippines can produce new talent that we can take note off, someone noticeably better than most. @kp15 Yes, Barbaso has been dominating his side for awhile, honestly, in my opinion his overall skills are better tha del Ro at this point, but Anton has years of experience and still pretty quick. I agree, Barbaso should be an NT regular. cjeagle, check jonny's blog he's got the CFIM and ICFC game. The full game. ICFC game was pretty exciting really. Denis Wolf besides not finding the back of the net, nevertheless showed great dribbling skill in a crowd, definitely a keeper.

Well Wiking.
I have always been critical of the Azkals system of play since Coach Weiss took over in that first game against Mongolia, so that is not something new. I just try be objective and respectful in my comments and above all avoid getting personal(not calling him names). He did have some positive contributions as his contacts in Germany and Japan, helped paved the way for our training camps there.
From the DFB point of view, considering his inexperience, his stint here is a sort of on the job training assignment, for their young coaches which they themselves paid for, and in theory should benefit both parties but as we all know he was not up to the task. I am quite sure that when it comes time for his performance to be assessed objectively by the DFB, it would be found less than satisfactory.
Thanks for the info on jonny's blog. I will try to view those games when I have the time.

cjeagleIf you're limited on time, see if you can squeeze in the first 20 minutes of Stallions v. Loyola. You'll see three goals in that span and some play from the player of discussion. You'll see that the football is pretty good with teamwork and nice passing from both sides. Not all the games are like this. There are still many bonehead plays, but the signs are all good for the direction of local football.

I haven't watched Doctora play so I'd rather not give my two cents worth on this issue. But it appears he's a promising prospect and should be given opportunities to develop further. Playing with Stallions in the UFL should help him make his case to those concerned (I hope). For me, another prospect that I have watched for a few matches is Joshua Beloya, quite impressive.
About UFL, I enjoy watching the matches. It's not European quality but it is a hell lot more better than local football being played like say 10 years ago. My one beef with UFL though and this goes down to even the tournaments my 11 year old son plays in, it's the atrocious refereeing. Horrible, horrible refereeing. Bad calls, inconsistent, failure to control the match. There are many instances where the ref refuses to give yellow cards for some really hard stuff. It's scary because the game gets overly physical because there is no consistency from the ref on what the boundaries are. I hope they make a serious effort to make improvements in the officiating.

narko . I was able to watch all the teams played (live) from division 1 with the exception of Pasargad. Beloya also impressed me with his performance during their game against Navy and PAF. Undoubtedly, Beloya's technique is far more superior compared to Doctora. What's interesting here is that we have two new prospects for the NT.. This is going to be a very interesting year for PH football.
