There will be a PFF U14 boys and girls Visayas Regional Football Festival at San Carlos City, Negros Occidental from February 24-26, 2012. Coach Oliver Colina will be there tomorrow to scout players who will fill the national training pool for AFC U14 in Sabah, Malaysia on the first week of June 2012. Participating teams are NOFA, NORFA, CebuFA, LeyteFA and IloiloFA. The best talents from these provinces will surely be center of attention at tomorrow's skills competition.

Cebu City teams join PFF fest

THE newly formed Boys under-14 team of Cebu City will be seeing action against the best of the Visayas in the Philippine Football Federation Regional Football Festival, which starts today until Feb. 26 at San Carlos City.

Along with the Boys under-14, the Girls under-13 team also headed for San Carlos City yesterday to represent Cebu City.

Despite the short period of training, Boys under-14 head coach Jong Perez assures that his boys will play their best against the teams from Bacolod, Dumaguete, Iloilo and Leyte.

“So far, so good. We don’t have enough preparation but the team is blending well,” said Perez.

The 22-man lineup was formed two weeks ago after the Cebu Football Association conducted a tryout last Feb. 5, which was attended by 47 hopefuls born on year 1998 and 1999.

The CFA should have sent the champion team of the under-13 and under-14, but since the 14th Aboitiz Cup is still ongoing, they decided to make a selection of players who will represent Cebu.

There were nine players chosen from Don Bosco Technical Center, five booters from Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu and three from Abellana National School.

Joining them are two players from University of Southern Philippines-Foundation and one each from Consolacion, Mandaue Technical Institute and Bright Academy.

Both the boys and girls team had been practicing every day since they were formed except on one weekend where they joined in the Thirsty Cup.

Perez relies on the experienced players of his team who played in the same tournament last year and was also part of the Palaro national meet.

CFA posts first win in PFF regionals

THE Cebu Football Under-14 Team is off to a good start after stamping its first win in the PFF Regional Festival of Football yesterday in San Carlos City.

It won its match against Negros Occidental Football Association, 1-0, courtesy of a goal from Don Bosco booter Angelo Ouano in the fifth minute of the match.

“Overall, the boys really played well,” said head coach Jong Perez.

The Cebu team dominated the ball possession of the game and had a number of goal chances but unfortunately failed to convert.

“They are now communicating well and I am confident he will see them improve more in upcoming games,” said Perez.

Perez added he will have to train his boys more in finishing plays because they were ahead in ball possessions but missed their chances in getting more goals.

The team now has three points and they will try to continue the winning streak as they play Iloilo today at 2:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Football Under-13 team dropped its first match against NOFA, 2-1, in the first match but was able to pull a 1-1 draw against the same team in the second meeting.

Since only CFA and NOFA were able to send a girls team in the regional tournament, the two teams need to meet four times to determine the champion based on the league type format.

Team Cebu top this year's PFF Festival which was held in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. Team Cebu was undefeated in their 4 games while NORFA is in second place with 3 wins and 1 loss, while NOFA-San Carlos got in the third followed by Iloilo FA and Leyte FA respectively.
There where 28 players selected for the Visayas All Stars which draw 0-0 against San Carlos U16 in the culmination of the 3 day festival. The 28 players selected will be trimmed down and those who pass the evaluation of Coach Colina will be the ones invited for the training camp in Lilo-an , Cebu this coming March 31.

Hi Juancho - Thanks for the info. Do you know if any other regions of the country are also being evaluated?

All I know is that this week (friday until sunday) Coach Colina will be in Laguna for their Festival of Football in U14.

Regrettably, it seems that no one really knows what the schedules are for these tourneys in totality. I live quite close to the PFF heaDquarters in Pasig, I will stop by there and try to get some clarity on this and report back what I find.
