I think other than having staduiums renovated and developed,
there really should be a bigger push on creating football fields for the public.
The Philippines doesn't have 4 seasons, there is grass everywhere so why not convert some of these lands into football fields or something!
i saw a futsal court near roxas blvd, apparently forgotten!
back inthe days in BGC before there were that many buildings there were many goal posts and makeshift fields that people played at!
so if you want to develop football in the Philippines, make the fields more available to the public! the astro-turf is also very expensive for many people who just want to play around.. there are limited subdivisions with football fields too! why not have a field where people can rent it cheaply? if we have an astroturf, why not real grass where it probably requires less maintenance.
contrary to what other people think, football has already been popular before. Just not that popular but it attracted a number of people and kids. Just look at kiddie leagues and that's just in Manila, when you go south of the Philippines there are more people playing. What makes people stop then? part of the reason is the lack of fields. to increase the sport's visibility and also to maintain the number of people in the sport and to improve them, you have to have more fields. I am from Quezon city and i have to go all the way to go at least 45 minutes to get to a football field and before i get to a football field there are lots of things i have to do. I know these fields because I used to be part of the school team which has a nearby footballfield and we went to these fields to compete/ play. I know players who play for recreation because of the same thing.
just wanted to share a practice in Hong Kong.
In Hong Kong there are lots of public fields and they have a reservation office and specific times the field can be used. the people who want to play there only pay a little money. there are bleachers and so on for spectators. some of the fields there can be used for games while the others are only being used for recreation. An astro-turf is great, but seriously i think they should have more grass fields out there! Maybe even if not grassfields, then futsal courts! one of my dreams is seeing street kids playing futsal in the streets with their slippers and goal posts.
like lack of parks in the Philippines, we obviously lack more football fields/ futsal courts
