Well, I went to Madrid last 2011 during World Youth Day celebrations. Flied with Qatar Airways, took me some 8 hours from Manila to Doha, then 3 hours stopover there to catch plane to Madrid for another 7 and half hours journey. So, it's almost a day travel. So you're are wondering how did our Euro-based players cope with too - much jet lag on arrival to match site then play the following day after just few hours of rest. . .
During my stay in Madrid, I had chance to visit Rizal Monument located in Avenida delas Islas Filipinas where I met some people of Caucasian features but surprisingly revealed to us that they are descendants of Filipino-Spanish families who emigrated from Philippines from 1920's to early 1930's before Spanish Civil War and in late 1940's right after Second World War. They said some of their ancestors have left a considerable properties in Philippines.
They don't look Filipinos now as many of their parents intermarried with Full-blooded Spanish.
Methinks, If the Azkals will ever play a friendly match against Spanish national team or a popular La Liga team it will be a news in Spanish media. This may result some football prospects who are descendants of said Filipino-Spanish families to come forward and be entice to play for Philippines.

18hours?... this just eliminated my thoughts that Patino can play here for the Challenge Cup considering the air time back and forth.

Azkals boost as Challenge Cup qualifiers moved to Fifa match datesBy Karlo Sacamos January 15, 2013, 07:59 pm THE Philippine men’s football team is expected to have a full complement of players when it vies in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup qualifiers this March at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Stephan Schrock, Neil Etheridge, and Roland Muller, all absent from the Asean Football Federation Suzuki Cup last December, could all be available in the Challenge Cup, along with other overseas-based mainstays, after the tournament for emerging Asian nations has been rescheduled to March 22 to 26, which are all Fifa international match dates. Professional clubs worldwide are inclined to release their players to their national sides during Fifa-set match dates. The AFC, according to Philippine Football Federation president Mariano 'Nonong' Araneta, approved the PFF’s request to move the date of the qualifiers from the first week of March for the governing body and the national team to prepare better for the tournament. Rob Gier, who wore the captain’s armband in most of the Azkals’ Suzuki Cup games, Paul Mulders, Jerry Lucena, Dennis Cagara, Ray Jonsson, Juani, and Angel Guirado could also boost the Azkals, who are in Group E with Turkmenistan, and Southeast Asian neighbors Brunei and Cambodia. The national team faces Brunei on March 22, Cambodia two days later, before colliding with Turkmenistan on March 26. The top squad emerging from the four-nation qualifiers will earn a berth in the main tournament next year in the Maldives. www.spin.ph/sports/football/news/boost-for-azkals-as-challenge-cup-qualifiers-moved-to-fifa-match-dates#.UPVNdcX4ryY.twitter
Additive: FIFA already changed the schedule of our games from March 2-6 to March 22-26. It's now confirmed GET READY FOR FULL FORCE

Fil-Spanish striker wants to join AzkalsBy Peter Atencio | Posted on Jan. 15, 2013 at 12:01am | 874 views
The Philippine Football Federation is discussing the possibility of acquiring a talented Fil-Spanish striker, who is interested in joining the Philippine Azkals. PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta is now talking to team officials on the status of Javier Patiño, a 24-year-old standout, who plays for second-division club FC Cordoba in Madrid. Communications chief Ebong Joson said team officials, led by coach Hans Michael Weiss and manager Dan Palami, are trying to find out if Patino will be able to suit up in time for the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup this March. The six-foot Patino is in the process of acquiring his Philippine passport. Management is now seeking Patino’s release from his club duties, as well, through liaison officer Rafa Garcia. “Inaalam namin kung aabot siya sa Challenge Cup o hindi. But, he has shown his interest to play,” said Joson. Patino, whose middle name is Lachica, was born in Madrid, and his mother is Filipino. He played his first four seasons as a senior in amateur football, while representing local clubs Alcobendas CF and UD San Sebastián de los Reyes. Last year, Patino moved straight to the second division, and signed a three-year contract with Córdoba CF Andalusians. He has since scored eight goals in 35 games. manilastandardtoday.com/2013/01/15/fil-spanish-striker-wants-to-join-azkals/

Except for Patino, key Euro-based Azkals are available for said dates I think it will be just personal reasons such rest from injury or wedding that will prevent them from playing.
It's still possible that Patino's team Cordoba will release him for said tourney. He is second or third option as striker so it may not be significant for Cordoba his absence. Moreover, he will miss only one match on 24th of March away against Real Madrid Castilla.

We might have a full force Azkals team on March. The sweetening is that they are playing home in Philippines.

...but it will also be advantageous to Turkmenistan as they also have players playing in the European leagues. Brunei can also call up their top players playing for DPMM FC in the S-League. The move of schedule a double-edged sword, actually. The Philippines can have an advantage of calling up their Euro-based players but their opponents can do the same which might make their team stronger than what we think right now.
