In 2008, Smart Gilas Pilipinas of basketball was created for the main purpose of qualifying for 2012 London Olympics, so I'm thinking why not do the same for football. As early as this year, why not the PFF create a pool of football players(wishful thinking) born before January 1, 1993 and also invite Filipinos playing outside the Philippines in their off-season to train with other players in the pool. Squad is to consist of eighteen players, of which no more than three may be born before 1 January 1993.

If we wan't to send a PHI Olympic Football Team (U-23) in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, they should start scouting for possible players for 2016 Summer Games NOW. If they start early, they'll be competitive soon. By the way, players here will also be the possible successors for Azkals.

Does the Olympics still allow overage players? Ronaldinho was in Beijing last 2008. I was wondering if its still allowed for 2016.

sorry but why not aim first for the asean or asian games first.....for me it is sound better..... select players ages 10 to 15, locals or foreign base players (but i prefer locals but that is another issue), fund their tuition from high school to college. Put them away from the hustling and buzzling streets of manila, away from the media to avoid bad criticism lets say bacolod (panaad) or bagiou (teachers camp). Invest for a long year to achieved that olympic goal, if UAE took them 4 to 5 years of football program for their golden boys why not try to duplicate it or make it better and longer. malaysia has a long football program and they had a time to take just even 1 win on the Group C elimination round.

Azkals To The 2016 Olympics?By MAUREEN MARIE BELMONTE July 31, 2012, 5:36pm MANILA, Philippines – Rabid Pinoy football fans may want to start working on their banners this early as there may be a chance for the Azkals to vie for the 2016 Olympics, according to member Phil Younghusband. Fresh from London, Phil revealed in an interview with PEP posted on Monday that competing in the Olympics is undoubtedly every athlete’s ultimate dream. Yet, despite that statement, many were surprised, if not dismayed, to find out that the national football team did not participate in this year’s Olympics. But local football fans need not fret because the Azkals apparently has their eyes set on that goal. “I mean, last time we didn’t enter, so hopefully next year—I think the qualifier is next year—hopefully, we’ll be entered and we can be there in the next Olympics in 2016 in Brazil,” enthused Phil. Meanwhile, months after announcing a partnership with English Premier League football club in Chelsea in hopes of creating the Chelsea FC Soccer School in the Philippines, Phil flew to London recently to finalize plans for the academy. Seeing how football’s momentum had spiked in the past years from being a generally overlooked sport to one of the country’s most celebrated prompted Phil and his brother James to tap the English-based academy, where they received their training, to put up the school in the country. Although its location is yet to be determined, what is certain is that it would be a gateway of opportunities for young football players to be molded into football pros. “As I said before [in other interviews], me and my brother played 60-70 games per year in England. But here in the Philippines, they only play 15-20 games a year, so we’re trying to create as many opportunities [to play],” said Phil. Hopefully, with Chelsea coming into the picture they could “beef up” the quality of coaches in the country to train players in “a high-level club,” which in turn would give the kids the chance to become better football players. If the plans push through, the Philippine football school would be the third in the region after Hong Kong (established in 2009) and Malaysia (2010). www.mb.com.ph/articles/368034/azkals-to-the-2016-olympics

Aside from 2016 Olympics, well they should also prove their worth in the 2013 and 2015 SEA Games and 2014 Asian Games. ;D
I really hope Chelsea will really help our youngsters for this.

Overage players are eligible only in the Olympic finals, not in the continental qualifiers. 2015 AFC U-22 Championship will serve as the qualifier and we need to reach at least the semifinals here to get a ticket to the 2016 Olympic. Though i personally think it's an extremely hard mission, anyway until then we don't have to leave the positions vacant for senior players.

There is a small chance that Luke Woodland will don the colors of our country since England youth team are high on him, maybe Takahashi for the other CB position..

I will burst the bubble of everyone. With what I'm seeing today... this will not happen. Wag kayong umasa for Brazil 2016 when our football management cannot even hire a dedicated scouting agent. And we can even dominate Southeast Asia.
Tone down your expectations people. Kungsabagay... libre naman mangarap.
Sorry, I'm just being realistic here.
