Why do we need to be called "Azkals"?
To all football fans:
Have you heard?
England "Wolves"? Portugal "The Galyon Ship"
I really do not understand! We are carrying our NATIONAL FLAG and we are not playing in English Premier League or Spanish Leauge na kelangan tayong tawagin na " Philippine Azkals". To begin with, What do we mean by "Azkals"? naiintindihan ba natin ito ng mabuti?
I suggest, we called our selves as "Pilipinas 1899" because this competition is country versus country and not a football club versus football club and we are thankful to PFF but i also suggest not to place in our Philippine football jersey because again this is not club versus club league.

I stand corrected but it doesn't mean i don't or will not support our football team.
What i want is "Let's understand better if what's the word "Azkals" means...?? and kung nababagay ba ito sa skilled player ng Pilipinas.
Sorry once again but pls. take this as a positive note so that we will improve.

Simple, Some countries call their National Team the Red Lions, La Furia Roja, Blue Wolves, The Blues, etc. Many supporters of the Phil. National Team call them the Azkals because, at the time o the nickname's inception, it was so fitting. And the name stuck until today. It's a nickname created by fans, NOT the PFF. So it is really unofficial and you'd most likely never see it on the team kit. But you can't deny it's popularity today, both on home soil and abroad. So why should we still stick with the name now that it's no longer "fitting"? Our homeless scrappy street dogs are now much beloved with the possibility of several homes. In my opinion, it helps remind us of the team's perseverance through the years as a forgotten entity. It's a wonderfully tough name denoting a pack of street brothers as opposed to a singular entity. And the reason it's caught on so well? It's just bloody cool.
But hey, that's just my opinion. What're your thoughts?

The askal is usually astray, unsupported and survives by feeding on whatever provision it can find. The Filipino national football team can relate to this mongrel, they have almost no support from a government thats suppose to support them, they are underdogs not just only to the world but even in their own region, South East Asia... yes they were underdogs..but that was BEFORE!

;Dyeah , that was before , as if it means that now azkals does'nt fit anymore, but i still still think azkals perfect for the team, i agree with caz since it still serve as a reminder of our football heritage & simply because the name azkals is simply darn cool, the name azkals will forever be connected with fighting spirits, our national football team will be forever be high in that category (courage), so i think azkals is perfect for the phil. national football team period. ;D

Hahaha wrong forum eldrickshaun. You will get a lot of heat creating this thread here. BTW we(fans) are not called Azkals. Its the team. So dont worry being called one if you dont like what azkals mean. Weve been talking about this for years and we are kinda tired na repeating all the reasons why. Can somebody provide a link explaining why we call the team AZKALS. I think Mike has an articlke about this.

hahahaha! lokotes!
we should be called AZKALS as fans of our RP football team! i, my self doesn't want to put our team in a cage after pulutin sa kalye hanggang dumating ang panahon na gawing pulutan ng ibang bansa.
You should not be tired locotes.. if you're a true supporter of RP team.
Anyway, just a thought my friend. What i am trying to say here is.. let us think it through what we are doing.
One of our kidS might be called AZKALS in the near future and of course, we as a parent will ask if what does the word implied or mean.
Let's think globally my friend because our players nowadays are more competent wherein they deserve to be called na may magandang ibig sabihin. we should not miss the opportunity by calling them na "asong palaboy na hinuli at iniligay sa maliit na kulungan na pwedeng patayin at gawing pulutan anytime."
Mabuhay RP Football Team!

Mabuhay RP Team! Futsal Pilipinas!
Finally, football has been recognized here in our country. Remembering those days na GROSBY at Adidas ( Inter 1 ) lang available sa market at ang mahal pa before you can really play football here in our country but we slowly improve and recognizing football as a good game to be played and a good foundation to sharpen our discipline just like we have now in our squad which they are really not "Asong Kalye" or "AZKALS" na pang-pulutan lamang.
They're true Pinoys! regardless where they came from or raised from.. They are here to represent Pinoy Futsal Squad with a good heart.
We, the fans are "AZKALS" ngek! huwag lang yong players natin! hahaha!

Mabuhay RP Football Team! If your saying that Azkals or an askal for that matter is less "glamoroso" or less an animal compared to highbreeds(doberman maybe) I dont agree. For me there is nothing wrong with an askal, they are all k9's. I own 2 askals, whitey(but his a blackdog) and the other one doesnt have a name yet and he is almost dead na. Can you explain why you consider my 2 askal less a dog compared to an expensive doberman? coz I love them both. BTW we fans are not called azkals, its only the the mens senior team itself. Players played for the senior team are the only one called azkals, not even the U23,U19 etc can be called azkals. And yes we are tired of explaining na. weve been doing it for years already, pa ulit-ulit na bai. Our stand is, If you dont want to call them AZKALS, nobody is forcing you. You can start calling them the Eagles if you want. One more thing, if my kid ends up playing for the senior team in the future, I will be proud to call him an AZKALs, coz I was part of history naming this team azkals, me and most of the guys in this forum.
