Philippines to host two international women’s football tournamentsKarl Decena, InterAKTV · Tuesday, July 3, 2012 · 10:53 pm The Philippine Football Federation has secured the hosting of two international women’s football competitions later this year. The Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila will be the venue for the qualifiers of the Under-16 and Under-19 Asian Football Confederation Women’s Championship in 2013, with the Philippine national women’s football team participating in both tournaments. In the U-19 qualifiers slated on Oct. 17 to Oct. 21, the Malditas are grouped with Chinese Taipei, Myanmar and Hongkong. In the U-16 qualifiers, Filipinos will be battling Australia, Thailand and Myanmar on Nov. 7 to Nov. 11. The Philippines also hosted both of the tournaments in 2010 at the University of Makati Stadium, failing to get past the group stages. www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/philippines-to-host-two-international-womens-football-tournaments

PFF set to host 2 more international meetsBy Olmin Leyba (The Philippine Star) Updated July 09, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments MANILA, Philippines - Aside from the four-nation Long Teng Cup in Bacolod, the Philippine Football Federation will also stage two other international competitions in the country, this time involving the women’s under-16 and under-19 teams. “We’ll be hosting two qualifiers for the ladies, one for the AFC U-16 Women’s Championship and another for the AFC U-19 Women’s Championship, separately in October and November,” PFF president Nonong Araneta said yesterday. The University of Makati (Umak) field and the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium, he said, will be the site for the two meets. “We’ll also fix Umak. Since we’ll be converting the Rizal into an artificial pitch, the grass that will be taken off Rizal will be transplanted to the Umak,” he said. Hosting the U-16 and U-19 qualifiers won’t require much financially as, Araneta explained, the participating nations will virtually shoulder their trips themselves. Three foreign teams are expected in each of the qualifying meets. Australia, Thailand and Myanmar will slug it with out the host Phl in Group C of the U-16 qualifiers. The four will play a round-robin format tourney with the group winner and runner-up booking tickets to the AFC U-16 women’s championship 2013 final. On the other hand, Chinese Taipei, Myanmar and Hong Kong will join the hometown bet Pinays for Group C action in the U-19 Round 1 qualifiers. They will figure in a league system meet with the group winner and runner-up advancing to Round 2 of the qualifiers along with Thailand and Vietnam. “We also want to develop ladies football, not just the men’s team or the Azkals,” said Araneta. The Azkals will play at home in a planned competition with Chinese Taipei, Macau and Hong Kong on Oct. 12-16 at Panaad Stadium in Bacolod. “To date, Hong Kong has yet to confirm their participation in the Long Teng but we’re doing our best to convince them,” said Araneta. The P6-million Bacolod tourney is being eyed as a final tuneup for the Azkals before they head to the AFF Suzuki Cup in late November. www.philstar.com/sportsarticle.aspx?articleid=825640&publicationsubcategoryid=69

There is no AFC Champions League for women ... Not really... it's the same old story regarding women sport in general, getting less attention in comparison to their male counterparts. Asian women's football is mostly consist of the eastern federations of the AFC and they have their own leagues, but the administration is mostly men so same old story... more money on men's competitions...

Philippines falls to Myanmar in AFC Women’s Under-16 qualifiersThe Philippines succumbed to Myanmar, 2-1, in its opening match in the 2013 Asian Football Confederation Women’s Under-16 Championship qualifiers Wednesday at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. After a nil-nil score at halftime, Wai Zin Hnin buried a goal over five minute after the break to give Myanmar a 1-0 lead. Substitute striker Phyu Hnin Thwe then doubled Myanmar’s advantage moments to give her team a 2-nil edge. Skipper Shannon Arthur then avoided a scoreless result for the Philippines by nailing a goal late in the match which was not enough to overcome Myanmar. Meanwhile, Australia drubbed Thailand, 5-1, in the first match of the day. The Philippines will next battle Thailand on Friday. The Filipinas need to land in the top two of their group to advance to the AF U-16 Women’s Championship next year. www.interaksyon.com/interaktv/philippines-falls-to-myanmar-in-afc-womens-under-16-qualifiers
