Depending on how quick they'll work on Aly's injury and how well he responds to rehab, he'll probably be ready for the Challenge Cup. Match fitness will probably be a bigger issue than his knee.

How many months is expected in this kind of injury to heal? I hope it will not be the same as achilles tendon injury that would takes 1-2 yrs to heal...Just like what happen to Dennis Cagara..

Even if he is up and about just before the AFC CC finals, It's doubtful he will be match fit, but I'm hoping for a happy ending so even if he can play 20-25min a game would be great especially against a team that doesn't pressure well.
So far 5 months away we've got the locals(barring injuries in the UFL season): delRo, Sabio, Fernandez, Leonora, Unabia, Basa(capped), Barbaso(anyone else I failed to mention?). James Yh, but I'm hoping he stays at mid(coach!!!!)
Speculation 1: Maybe Oliver P, since he plays for an amateur and lower tiered(6th) team, same with Rob G(9th), might be able to come on down for the AFC games??? Yes Rob isn't that fast anymore but then again his speed was only exposed against a very very good team in Kuwait. We are not facing any team of that caliber in the AFC competition, plus his veteran presence, leadership and familiarity with the players and coaches should help. I dare say he could be a 'Captain' of the defense at the very least.
Speculation 2: Dan 'the Man' Palami, surprised us with Carli and OP, could they surprise us again? There are still 5 more months to wait...
The Bad: The Superliga starts its season in March 6. That concerns Jerry Lucena and Dennis Cagara folks. 2.Bundesliga(aka Stephan S and Rolan Mueller) will have games on going in March. Carli's, Tercera division will also be in league play at this time The Good??: The Icelandic premier league season is off in March and resumes in May. Ray Jonsson should be around. Rolan Mueller if he doesn't get to be promoted 2nd GK for MSV Duisburg should still be able to come. Looking at it through MSV's perspective, by him playing in the AFC should gain him valuable playing time without loaning him out(just putting a positive spin on things gents). The NT is used to playing with a holding midfielder, that gives us 5 players on defense that should help overall. As the coach and Mr Palami has said, maybe borrowing a player for 1 or 2 games can help. If we can't have them for the whole duration but maybe against a 'stronger' team we can schedule them to come down.
Your thoughts...
add: If Jason de Jong doesn't put himself in coach W's doghouse again, he playing in the March '12 games should be a great possibility. He is playing for a youth team now(unless he gets promoted) so obviously playing in an international like this would be better competition for him than playing another youth team. His team should be happy for him to gain more experience this way. Again I'm just putting a positive spin on my speculation.

Many of the clubs of our Euro players are in critical territory right now. Fulham of Etheridge is currently in middle territory. The Danish clubs of Cagara and Lucena are in hot water now since Lyngby is facing relegation and AGF will soon find itself qualifying for the Europa league. Greuther Fuerth of Schroecki might soon be promoted to the 1.Bundesliga, and Duisburg of Mueller is in the borderline of relegation at the 2.Bundesliga. Grindavik of Jonsson had a very turbulent season. Hopefully maybe one or two of our Euro players in critical territory would release these players. But for me, it's still doubtful. As for the locals, I'm now becoming to doubt Chieffy to don the Captain's armband in place of Aly. In the past matches when he subs Aly as captain he tends to be less vocal on the pitch (language barrier?) and the complexion of the whole match was quite turbulent (can't control the midfield a lot?). I noticed it during the Kuwait away match and the ICanServe friendlies. But I am optimistic about Gier being the "captain" of the defense line due to his veteran experience. Yes, he is slower now but if he is paired with Oliver P, that will be quite good actually. And Jason de Jong? As he is tapped to be captain of the U-23 team, I can also presume a leadership role in the defending side. Maybe if Manny Ott could come there as well to help with the attacking side. Man, pairing these youngsters together will be fantastic!

I don't follow? Grindavik has no games on schedule so his availability should be a given, unless he personally refuses to go? BTW, Grindavik has finished in 10th place from 2009, 2010, 2011, so it's nothing new to them. Sad but true.
Roland, if he is not promoted to 2nd GK will languish with the reserve team. Relegation or not a 3rd stringer is a 3rd stringer and should have time unless his club says N-O. With Neil's situation, we can safely kiss him goodbye as his team most likely won't play without a number 2 GK on the bench(unless he gets demoted or they say YES!!).
I deliberately didn't mention more of OP earlier because I think Jason Sabio has more to offer at CB. JSabio has played in bigger competitions before and has been fairly successful. Yes I realize the defense broke against Kuwait with him as a CB, but that was when the coach only played 12 men in his roster and most of the time they went in with less than 2 minutes left, (yes I'm being slightly sarcastic). Personally I think Aly, Carli and Leonora outplayed him in the LTC 2011, after all he naturally plays midfield for BFC Preussen. But who knows, JSabio has not been in the Azkal roster for awhile now and OP(if he comes) is by no means a 'down grade' in talent.

It's a shame, isn't it? With our "dream team" I'd dare dream that we'd be a real contender to win the Challenge Cup. Nevertheless, this being a "priority" tournament and a major stepping stone in Palami's long/short term plans, I do hope he can pull off getting most, if not all of our key players from their clubs. I'm stoked that the UFL is gaining ground, but NT players please don't get injured!

Sabio is returning to law school next year. I don't think he can be looked upon as a longterm addition to any Azkal team. Besides he wasn't called up for either the LTC or the recent friendlies so I presume Coach Weiss has him way down the depth chart for future tournaments.

ACL injury sidelines Azkals skipper Aly BorromeoBy Cedelf P. Tupas Philippine Daily Inquirer 10:25 pm | Sunday, October 16th, 2011 SIDELINED. Azkals trusty skipper Aly Borromeo tore his ACL and may miss the AFC Challenge Cup. MANILA, Philippines—Philippine Azkals skipper Aly Borromeo faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in Kaya Cignal’s 3-2 victory over Diliman Victory Liner in the United Football League Cup last Saturday. The 28-year-old central defender, who picked up the injury in the first half of the game when Kaya was trailing, 1-2, could be out for at least six months. Aside from missing the remainder of the UFL Cup, Borromeo will also miss the build-up for the AFC Challenge Cup and could skip the tournament altogether in March next year. “I’ll be back stronger than ever,” Borromeo told the Inquirer shortly after learning about his injury. Borromeo also tore his ACL in the AFF Championships in January 2007 in Thailand, but came back to produce a string of solid performances in the 2008 AFC Challenge Cup in Iloilo and the 2008 AFF Qualifiers in Cambodia. Azkals manager Dan Palami remained hopeful that Borromeo could recover in time for the Challenge Cup, where the Azkals will dispute the crown and the 2015 AFC Cup slot that goes with it against Nepal, Maldives, Turkmenistan, North Korea, India, Tajikistan and Palestine. “Aly plays an important role in the team and we hope to have him back as soon as he can,” said Palami. sports.inquirer.net/20587/acl-injury-sidelines-azkals-skipper-aly-borromeo

"...Malaysia in a home game..." I wonder if that date would be Feb 29 2012? That's the first and last FIFA friendly day before the AFC begins. Anyway, that's another game worth paying attention too! Can't wait...

Is the Malaysia friendly already confirmed? I hope this will give them skills needed for the Challenge Cup. Anyway If this will happen, are all of our players will be there? I hope our dream team play
