www.hkfa.com/includes_files/board_details.php?news_id=89132011 Long Teng Cup Hong Kong 3:3 Philippines Hong Kong started their journey on retaining the Long Term Cup 2011 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan by squaring off against Philippines in the opening match of this year’s tournament. However, the reigning champion was handed a surprise 3-3 draw by its resilient East Asian neighbor, after squandering a two-goal lead during the game. Hong Kong got off to a great start by scoring the first goal of the game when winger Lee Wai-lim connected with a teammate’s cross and directed the ball into the Philippines net on only the 2nd minute of the game. Philippines tried to fight back in front of the mostly pro-Philippines crowd and almost came up with the equalizer on the 11th minute when Philip Younghusband took advantage of some sloppy defending by the Hong Kong defense and broke through facing Hong Kong keeper Yapp Hung-fai. Luckily for Hong Kong, the South China keeper was alert of the danger and bravely rushed off his line to lay claim of the ball. Hong Kong extended the lead on the 22nd minute with goal scorer Lee Wai-lim turning into provider this time, efficiently using his speed on the flank, beating his marker and delivering a dangerous ball into the Philippines penalty area. South China striker Cheng Lai-hin did not disappoint by gliding the ball into the opening net, giving his team a 2-0 lead. Philippines was given a chance to get back into the game shortly afterwards when Hong Kong defender Ng Wai-chiu was judged to have fouled Pilipino striker Philip Younghusband in the Hong Kong penalty area. The referee pointed to the penalty spot without hesitation and Younghusband calmly converted his kick to put his side back into the game with a closer score of 2-1. Philippines supporters turned wild on the 44th minute when they saw Emelio Caligdong unleashed a shot from the edge of the Hong Kong penalty area which found its way past the diving Hong Kong keeper Yapp Hung-fai into the net. The game was very much up for grabs with both sides scoring two goals apiece. Hong Kong almost found themselves regaining the lead shortly after the game resumed in the 2nd Half when substitute Kwok Kin-pong saw his shot just deflected away from the Philippines goal by the out-stretched leg of keeper Angel Aldeguer. Philippines midfielder Emelio Caligdong scored his second goal of the game and gave his side its first lead on the 62nd minute when he marched into the heart of the Hong Kong defense and fired a thunderous shot that gave keeper Yapp Hung-fai absolutely no chance. Hong Kong, once led by two goals now found themselves actually trailing by one. On the 86th minute, Hong Kong finally found the equalizer that they had been hoping for when striker Chan Siu-ki’s free kick hit the post and the bouncing ball fell to teammate Au Yeung Yiu-chung. The later tapped in the rebound and both sides were back on leveling terms 3-3. Unfortunately for Hong Kong, that was also the score that stood at the end of the game.

That leaky defense 1 step more to Macca >>> Weiss ;D Actually tha macca defense that you are talking about conceded 4 goals last year against Hongkong U23 and the azkals defensive line last year is the core of the azkals defense with Aly, Gier, Jonnson and Del Rosario... This year's long teng Cup only Aly is back... azkals concedes a lot goals on free kicks. They did in against Myanmar, Sri lanka and now Hongkong... Pre, Jonsson is not around in that last Long Teng Cup 2010 and Sacapano is on goal. Besides, it was the first field test of Macca's system. Here, have a look www.ctfa.com.tw/upload/zhtw/news_file/ctfa_news_275.htm

Some thoughts:
- Give Chieffy two touches and you're toast. - Balik na naman yung argumentong Weiss v McMenemy? C'mon, now. That's old news. - Even with the three goals concede, I like what I saw with Muller. He's not as imposing as Etheridge, but he did his share to help us get something out of this. - A draw against a team which was much better than us last year, with us playing only 50% of our A squad. I'll take that. - Borromeo-Gier pairing is still our best option at CB.

Some thoughts: ... - Balik na naman yung argumentong Weiss v McMenemy? C'mon, now. That's old news. ... Why are we reaching for the stars when we have difficulty reaching the moon? It's not about McMenemy, it about DEFENSE. Modern football is all about defense. No more, no less...

I think if we use our best team which include our 1 GK, Lucena, schrock and Gier.... it would have been a better result...

fadzki and @sheajane: Did you not get my point? Do you not see the faults on the team defensive positioning? Did you count the errant passes? Did you see the lapses on players positional structuring? Did you count how many HongKong plays that should not be made if Weiss system made sense with regards to the players capability at his disposal? If not, then there's no point in discussing the intricacies of the game. We should just sit and sing hallelujah and join the group-think and the me-too mentality ;D

It's the second time in as many international matches that we conceded a goal against a team with a man down. I hope our coaching staff can have the necessary preparation on how to exploit this advantage.
We can still win this...
Azkals! We Believe!
