i thought neil ignacio will be playing with them. sayang. So where is Neil connected? I think Coach Ernie should just stick to coaching while management should be taken by professionals. Just listened to his Fever Pitch episode interview, I was mistaken that Coach Ernie is the one who is handling the management side of things. I hope you guys catch it as he discussed his POV and stories behind the Stallion team. He mentioned that they are not making money and the average salary per month of players is about 20k.

Neil is back in the USA getting in shape for the next collegiate season. He wasn't offered and didn't sign a pro contract with Stallion. He has an offer for 3 semesters of "full ride" scholarship with a Div I college team, which translates to big bucks, because I understand it includes tuition, books and room and board. My estimate, it is worth at least $30,000 a year, plus a college degree when he graduates.

Good decision by Neil, jimsar. CJ - you know the timing of the scholarship offer, literally hours before he boarded the plane for Manila. So, he was torn between both worlds. The value of a college degree from a University of California ... PRICELESS. Off topic - my sons-in-law are taking me to Sharks vs Blackhawks on 2/1/14. Looking forward to it.

jimsar,
My family and I, will be at the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor Michigan for the Detroit Redwings -Toronto Maple Leafs outdoor game on New Year's day, along with more than 100,000 fans. We are going to break the world record for most fans to watch a hockey game, and even though the forecast is going to be freezing(13F or -10.5C with the windchill making it feel like -1F or -18.3C) with snow(2-4 inches) showers during the game, it is going to be a blast.
BTW, I am glad Neil took my advice. Education is important. An athletic career is pretty short. He needs something to rely on after his career is over. Besides, in an NCAA Div I school, he will train in the best university training facilities in the nation, under qualified instructors, who will help him reach his potential as a soccer player. As I said before, in the long run, unless he can get an offer from MLS or a European league, it is the best solution for him as well as for the Philippines national football team.

Caz - Wassup Doc? (love to throw that Bugs Bunny line to physicians...most appropriate for cartoonist doctors, as if more than 1 exists in the world.)
CJ - your advise through the years has always been right on. I think he realizes it now, my endless ribbing about "underwater basket weaving" as a career choice if he doesn't get his degree now may be finally sinking in. "Na-taohan" his dad told me a few days ago. Neil's older sister, former teammate and still friend of Alex Morgan had a career ending knee injury. After surgery and rehab, she lost the heart to play soccer. It's that close to home, Neil saw first hand how one injury can end everything.

Well I love receiving the line whenever it's thrown my way. I'm a huge Looney Tunes fan, after all. There are quite a bunch of us cartooning physicians, as this site implies: www.graphicmedicine.orgHowever, there really aren't that many that get to have their comics published in national newspapers (cough cough ahem).

I'm liking the new kits worn by the team! Hopefully Mizuno can come up with more cool jerseys for other teams as well.

They seriously need "player management". Most of the time, they always get great players. The only problem is they don't know how to keep them.
