Coach Cooper mentioned some friendlies in September and October in preparation for the Suzuki Cup in December in this article and video. www.cnnphilippines.com/sports/2021/6/25/Scott-Cooper-Azkals-strongest-squad-September.html"We'll play in some international games in September. We should have the strongest squad together by then. Azkals fans can look forward to a very promising next couple of years with a vastly improved squad," the English coach told CNN Philippines' Sports Desk on Friday. _____ I am not sure where they will play those friendlies though since Covid restrictions in the Philippines is still very strict. They might have to go abroad to play them.

Would really like to see the Azkals play New Zealand in the near future. Both teams are very similar in talent, although I feel NZ would edge the Philippines, it’ll be a good challenge for us.

Palami also revealed that plans for the Azkals’ camp and friendlies against European teams in March have hit a snag. Palami says pandemic concerns and quarantine restrictions have greatly impacted the plan to bring the team to Spain. “It is difficult to secure games in Europe right now. We were only able to secure one game and unfortunately we need at least a minimum of two games,” Palami said. But all is not lost: Palami said there is an option for the Azkals to consider if the European camp will not push through. “There is an offer, however, for us to play against a team from South East Asia and they will also help us play against another country,” Palami revealed. “Minimum of two games. We need to practice and we can have more games prior to the June competitions in China,” he added. Palami said they are still weighing the best options for the Azkals’ preparations for the third round of the 2023 Asian Cup. And he also knows that time is something that they don’t have right now, but still, he remains hopeful that something concrete will happen soon. manilastandard.net/sports/314202957/more-than-a-historic-wc-spot.html

Why are the Tabinas brothers not part of the roster? Jefferson in particular was their best defenceman during the last WC qualifiers.

Why are the Tabinas brothers not part of the roster? Jefferson in particular was their best defenceman during the last WC qualifiers. I saw a comment in a Filipino football fans group regarding the situation of Jefferson. I believe the comment was from his mother. She said that it's about the days required for isolation since Jeff was coming from Japan, so the situation between travelling from Japan to Singapore is complicated. That's the reason why he wasn't called up.

Hopefully Jefferson will be able to make it to the Asian Cup qualifiers in June.

The Philippine Azkals suffered a rude awakening in their first match of the 2022 Tri-Nations Series after they fell to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Malaysia, Wednesday evening at the National Stadium in Singapore. Two first-half strikes from Malaysian forward Akhyar Rashid were enough to seal the victory for coach Kim Pan-gon’s men. The Johor Darul Ta’zim winger eluded newcomer right-back Enrique Linares and shot past goalie Neil Etheridge at the second minute of the match and he followed it up with another superb finish off a counter-attack at the 24th minute. The Azkals look to bounce back as they take on Singapore on Tuesday while Malaysia faces the same opposition on Saturday. tiebreakertimes.com.ph/tbt/azkals-folds-to-akhyar-rashid-malaysia-in-tri-nations/234855Not a promising debut for the new recruit Linares.

Another loss. The Azkals seem to be regressing. Not a good pitch for potential eligible recruits.

PFF prepares contingency plan for Mitsubishi Cup The Philippine Football Federation is preparing a contingency plan for the Mitsubishi Electric Cup, formerly the Suzuki Cup, which is tentatively scheduled this December. While the Filipinas were busy preparing for their semifinal outing in the AFF Women’s Championship, a team composed mostly of local players, quitely slipped out for a friendly with East Timor and the Bali United stadium on July 16. The members of the team were Anthony Piinthus, Pete Forrosouelo, Matthew Nierras, Diego Bardanca, Dennis Chung, Mike Ott, Arnel Amita, Jovin Bedic, Yrick Gallantes, Mar Diano, Jesus Melliza, Julian Schwarzer, Oliver Bias, Hikarun Minegishi, Enrique Linares, Curt Dizon, Mark Hartmann and Audie Menzi. Thomas Dooley handled the team. The team defeated East Timor, 4-1, with Ott scoring in the 12th and Menzi making it 2-0 in the 35th off a corner. Bedic, Kaya’s leading striker, had two goals in the 65th and 91st minute for the easy win. “The Timor Friendly is a project of the National teams Committee and Technical Committee, to help identify national team caliber players. The team was made up mostly of PFL players. Since the Mitsubishi Electric Cup is tentatively scheduled in Dec, and not during the FIFA transfer window, we may encounter availability issues with foreign based players,” said Ernie Nierras. Nierras said the national teams committee scheduled the friendly to allow PFL players the chance to showcase their skills to the Azkals management. “The Azkals won the encounter 4-1, which shows that our local PFL players are capable and able to and the continuous participation of local players in the PFL has improved the quality of our players for international competitions,” said Nierras. cebusports.net/pff-prepares-contingency-plan-for-mitsubishi-cup-plus-malditas-enjoy-a-break-with-stallions/?fbclid=IwAR3oX8CRUp9ysAcwSqMrRKjbKG3jQfsLtw5IMnAtlOr5gzQTvd39xitdt38

pff.org.ph/2022/12/14/philippines-mnt-lineup-for-vietnam-friendly/It is mostly a young lineup with a few veterans. It is nice to see Paul Tabinas joining his brother Jefferson on defence. FT Vietnam 1-0 Philippines Decent result against one of the favorites to win the AFF Cup. Almost a draw. Vietnam needed Extra Time to score their goal. They have decent goaltending and defence but they need improvement on offense though.

Roster for the friendlies in the Middle East against Kuwait and Jordan this March 24 and 28th. Holtmann sustained an injury in Bundesliga that has sidelined him for quite awhile now so he won't be participating. It is too bad they still haven't invited some of the Fil Canadian players with MLS experience to the team like Kadin Chung and the Baldissimo brothers. Obermair, Reyes and Rasmussen also missing.
