I can't see why the coach is to be blamed for this. He's been a great guy. Look,
get local rooster = we WILL definitely loose, right away.
Get foreign based rooster = although team blend, fitness, playing style WILL be a problem but we WILL stand a chance.
I don't think it's too hard to look back 2 years ago when we just started and compare that to now, we are now a team to be reckoned with. Who's the coach behind this? Weiss. Plus he will have brought with him to the Philippines additional funding from the German FA for grassroot programs, that is if everything goes well with his request.
(Note: My tactical analysis going forward is not 100% accurate but is based from what I saw and should be 80-90% accurate)
Tactically, I cant blame him. In the game last night, we played 4-2-3-1 in the first half,
which would what I would have played our team with to be fluid (the passing did not work so well though). 70 mins into the game was still 1-nil. Angel hogging the ball? Let him Hog it, he can create chances not only for Phil and/or Reichelt but also for himself, that game alone saw a few. And well, admittedly, he can convert them as well.
Singapore has a LOT of attacking
potential ABILITY, did you see how their game changed in the final third, they were defending with a 5-4-1 formation? Our forwards were outnumbered, hence the tactic switch to 3-5-2 with Cagara providing width at the touchline, he'd even go inside the box the receive crosses once in awhile (height advantage), and for compromise, two midfielders Mulders and Lucena, dropped deeper - these provided us with the additional chances that we needed.
Why then did we only create these chances in the final third? Had we scored before the final third, the playing style of Singapore would have been much much different, they'd overwhelm us just like in the first half. One of the reasons we were able to get ground was that Singapore was clearly defensive from HT out, wanting to preserve their lead. Maybe due to our fitness, the highest probability of us winning (remember we only needed a 1-1 scoreline or a win to get to the next level) would be just that chance and a goal in the last 30mins, this would in turn render another goal from Singapore fairly difficult to achieve, they'd struggle to do that. So it was a either us or them. And we clearly cannot stretch our attacking abilities throughout the whole match remember, we're not exactly the youngest team there, nor are our players used to the humidity and weather here, they tire quite easily compared to local ones.
The 2nd half, where we get most of goals statistically, was our best bet. Had we scored in the last 30mins, we would have ended with a result we wanted, 1-1. It just didn't happen, a lot of things can and cannot happen in football, but for me this was the best decision for our current team.
Do I think he should be replaced? NO. He's one of the best coaches we've ever had, he's practical - realistic. I'm sure he was not thinking of the trophy just yet, he was taking it one game at a time. All that while you (yes, you - but don't worry you're not alone) thought we were favorites to win the title. We're fairly new to this level of competition (as a team) and he knew it would take more than just two years to develop his squad. I want him to develop our squad. He understands that we cannot always rely on foreign based players, that's why he's been encouraging grassroot programs in the country. He wants the Filipinos to love football. I want him to coach the team until the qualifiers for the next world cup (we're not going to qualify, yes, but we want to see where we can go), he did say that once in an interview.
While our team DOES have the potential (we all know it, we all want it to show - and that's where many of us point our argument towards) but that doesn't mean we'd be champions right away. In the stock market, how do you get a growth of a stock from php 50.00 to php 100.00? It goes first from 50, to 51, to 51.50, to 52, 53, 54.. etc. as is in real life and everything about it, including football. It takes time to realize a potential, and admittedly, we're not there yet.
So, and I apologize for saying this, I'm not sure where this "Replace the Coach" thing is coming from. For managers results count, look at the past few years, you will see results and like it or not, you will be seeing more of it.
