Fair Play: Cebu needs a new pitchby: Mike T. Limpag January 13, 2013 Sunday on 6:19PM I COULDN’T believe it when someone in the grandstand screamed, “Go nigger go nigger go,” when Cebu Queen City United’s African player, Samson Olaniyi, got the ball in the PFF Smart Club championship match against Pachanga last Saturday at the Aboitiz Sports Field. And that dolt was cheering for home team! I shouted at him not to use that word, while I saw another fan scolding him. He was with a kid, and when we transferred seats, near the Pachanga goal early in the second half, I still heard him say those words once. That was an ignorant fan. If I were a brother of that player watching in the stands while he is screaming. I would literally, snap his neck..hehe just kidding. Anyways, racism is not a laughing matter. It is imperative that racism is still present and I think that it will not vanish. I think Philippines should apply strict anti-racism rule in football like in other countries. Where a club or a national team could be sanctioned if proven that their fans have racist taunts. That way they can encourage fans to behave properly and avoid racist taunts/teasing

reports said that the father of a player from Ateneo de Cebu had a key or pocket knife in his hand and struck the Alcoy goalie's head which lead to bleeding. this brawl started when the parents from Ateneo started chanting "taga bukid" to the Alcoy players.

Acc. to this article, the guy had a swiss knife in his hand: www.pinoyfootball.com/articles/11101593/MMAFootball-in-CebuI can't believe Jack Biantan, one of the reporters of pinoyfootball would condone this incident. This is a clear case of assault. This is what he said in the last paragraph. "For the man who stabbed the Alcoy FC goalkeeper, we know that it was not your intention to harm the player. It was just a spur of the moment that you did not want to happen."

Very disheartening as a Cebuano. The Goalkeeper(Alcoy FC) is big for his age. Before the fight, folks from Alcoy town who watched the game alleged heckling from SHS-Ateneo says "TAGA-BUKID!" I think the guy in gray (maybe the son of that SHS-Ateneo's player on the photo and according the TV5, he's from Bureau of Customs) should break-up the fight, not beating the poor kid up. His actions could land him in jail for child abuse.
I read one comment in Bisaya says, that "what if the goalkeeper chokes the SHS-Ateneo player, as a parent, do you want to leave his kid to get choked by the bigger kid like the goalie? you don't know the whole story so, don't be judgmental"
BTW, there should be at least security personnel manning the bleachers, during these matches but this incident is unexpected.

Parents also get involved in fights here in the US while watching their children play, usually against other adults, but I have never seen a parent use a potentially deadly weapon against a child in a soccer game. There is no excusing such an act, no matter the provocation.

ph.sports.yahoo.com/blogs/thepassionatefan/sanctions-meted-cebu-football-melee-plus-move-065240609.htmlOn Wednesday the Cebu Football Association handed down their punishments to the erring parties, and it was not light. According to the Twitter feed of Mike Limpag (@mikelimpag) of the SunStar, five players from Alcoy were suspended from any organized play for six months, while four Ateneo booters were given the same punishment. Both coaches were also banned for half a year. Both teams have been kicked out of the tournament. It also appears that a spectator, identified as Enrico Mongaya, presumably the one who came on to the field, will face sanctions too. Props to the CFA for a quick and forceful decision.

The godparent can say what he wants, but he lost all symphathy the moment he brought out a switchblade. What an idiot. Enrico Mongaya is an embarassment to everyone he is associated with. He cant win a fight against a sixteen year old? Also when was the last sporting event when a person died via chokehold? Youre gonna claim that you feared for the childs life when your actions statistically will more likely cause death than any of the child you attacked. You know what f____ you, Enrico Mongaya. Hope you lose your job over this incident. His side below via Mike Limpag www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/opinion/2014/03/19/so-football-spectator-speaks-out-334021

what "reconciliation"?! no matter what his excuse as long as he'd hurt the kid from Alcoy, he will still face not just assault, child abuse charges. I hope the Alcoy Goalkeeper's parents will pursue in filing the case and give justice.

I hope the Alcoy Goalkeeper's parents will pursue in filing the case and give justice. They are asking for reconciliation but unable to apologize, The writer who gave the statement of the A-hole godparent only assumed that he was willing to apologize. Truth be told, most of those involved deserve some level of blame for the incident. But please, none of this false equivalency crap, only one of those involved deserves to lose his job and some jail time as his actions were the most vile of them all. They shouldn't hide between statements of reconciliation as that gives of an air that both sides are equivalently wrong when they are not.

www.spin.ph/sports/football/news/three-spectators-get-one-year-ban-for-joining-fray-in-cebu-under-18-football-brawlI think in the case of Mongoya, I would consider the one year ban barely a slap in the wrist. Football clubs elsewhere have even rendered lifetime bans for spectators from their games for incidents much less egregious than this. Normally in such cases, the injured party would file civil cases against the perpetrator and possible even criminal charges from the respective local courts will also be filed. Here in the US, even players can sue each other for excessive violence, resulting in permanent injury affecting their career.
