AFC set for making 2013 a success

Kuala Lumpur: Following the successful organisation of seven different competitions last year, AFC is gearing up to make Year 2013 more exciting with educational courses on competition organisation currently underway in the Malaysian capital.
With the addition of the AFC U-22 Championship and the AFC U-14 Championship, there is a need of more qualified officials throughout the continent and AFC is addressing this growing demand by organising preparatory seminars and workshops.
AFC General Secretary Dato’ Alex Soosay highlighted the organisation’s responsibility to impart knowledge to all stakeholders across the continent.
“We are committed to make all our competitions better because to achieve our goal of being the best in the world requires a lot of efforts from all the stakeholders,” Dato’ Alex told www.the-afc.com.
“With the AFC Project Future programme addressing the requirement of qualified coaches, the focus is now on producing qualified officials for competition organisation.
“The invaluable knowledge the participants are expected to get will definitely enhance the competition organisation of AFC as well as regional and domestic competitions,” he added.
There are five competition-related courses that are being organised in the month of January.
Thirty-five participants and eight observers are attending the Local General Coordinators’ (LGC) Seminar while to run the growing number of matches in the continent smoothly, around 40 match commissioner candidates are attending the four-day Match Commissioners’ Seminar at AFC House.
A two-day Local Media Officers’ Seminar concluded on Tuesday with 36 participants and observers.
A separate club workshop for the AFC Champions League 2013 and AFC Cup 2013 participating clubs will be organised this month. The workshop will focus on competition regulations, disciplinary cases and legal matters, official countdown and match operations, stadium safety and security, team registration, doping control, media, marketing, refereeing matters etc.
